      How they told her to just punch back, it's often more difficult or takes more time for a neurodivergent person. I know this show is about being able to deal with the often tough model industry but I still think they could have told her differently (just keeping om criticising wont make her get back faster) as they must have known about her disability (though probably not what it's about). Not everything with modelling is the same too and if the agency really like you as a model I'm sure not every is like the devil and can adjust for your disability. Diversity everywhere is so important too and it has become more common to hire models with disabilities, though I'm sure it was very hard back then, it's still hard but it's hard with every job and there will always be people who are shitty who won't accept you everywhere even when others try to make a chance.

She just could be a mean girl and destroy their dreams, while pretending, that she is actually helping them. And the worst seasons started, when one of judges was that horrible Kelly Cutrone. The car would be fitted with a specialised pyrotechnic and treated with fire retardant, and the model positioned upwind from the flames, and if they're doing their job properly the garments will also be covered in flame retardant. With that much sunlight the flames would barely be lighting the models, though I'm not sure why they couldn't add the lighting effects in post, or the fire for that matter! Under the hot desert sun there's a huge risk of burn and heat stroke.
    Needless to say, getting the shot should never come at the cost of the model's mental and physical health, nothing is worth that. And it's even more complicated when there's competition and stakes involved, the models will push themselves further than working models ordinarily would.

    Comparing how smiley Ambreal was when she was leaving to how Tiffany left in her season, I understand even less why Tyra went off on Tiffany when she tried to leave with a smile. Was it because Lisa had already supplied the tears for this episode and she wanted Tiffany to leave broken and defeated instead of in her jovial jokey way? Anyway . . . Thanks for another great ANTM roast, Jessica!

    • @TonyTurner

      @loveutill theendoftimes No real professional clients gonna risk their models' safety for something that can be easily photoshopped

    • @thebadpoet
      @thebadpoet 2 года назад +8

      @loveutilltheendoftimes absolutely, yes, safety of performers and crew is always paramount. I’m a costume designer in theater, and safety is always first, second, and third.
      The car is definitely specially intended for pyrotechnics, because only someone rated in pyrotechnics is legally allowed to set things on fire or explode things on any kind of set.
      If employee (any kind, in any business) safety didn’t matter, OSHA wouldn’t exist. Unions wouldn’t have been founded. Fire Marshall’s wouldn’t be the bane of every theater’s existence.

    • @UrFaveMidget
      @UrFaveMidget 2 года назад +6

      @loveutill theendoftimes Adhering to safety standards is not "parenting" the adult models. Adults aren't immune to danger. There are power dynamics in play, which makes even very capable adults feel like they can't or shouldn't speak up for themselves, exact because people like you will think they're wanting to be "coddled". Heat stroke, dehydration, sun poisoning are all very dangerous. They're in an already very hot environment, standing next to a fire, with lights flashing or shining at them. Add the stress of a TV set and the pressure of performing well, and a mode can easily push themselves past their limit. And yeah may they have medics on set, but how far away are they from the nearest hospital? We put safety standards in place to prevent it from ever getting to the point where it could be that dangerous, especially if there's no practical need for that danger to be present to get a good photo.

    The girls were all so beautiful in that shoot, but composition-wise I don't think they did them any justice. The setting is quite the uninspired idea but it could have been done a lot more interestingly. They have those gorgeous girls, a good light-setup, a completely clear blue sky and a burning car and yet the photos look boring to me. And those that actually go with the "story" of the shoot get rosted.
    Also annoying that they, as always, held the instructions they gave to the models against them at the judging panel. "Show us desperation" Model does. "You don't show the cloths, that was the focus." Well then tell the girls?? In all the ANTM reacts it's always plain clear that they fault the girls for things that were not even their job. "I don't like the lighting in that picture and you, as a model should have paid attention." Uhm, no.

    The conversation about needing to compartmentalize was so out of place especially because the model they were speaking to, Heather, was open about being on the autism spectrum. It’s well documented that people with different forms of autism struggle reacting to criticism and moving past it. I think given the context, having that critique for Heather was unfair. It’s hard for everybody to take constructive criticism and move forward but to expect her to act like it has no effect of her is unrealistic.

    however, it's kind of frustrating to see what they put these girls through when 90% of the time most models won't ever be cast for extreme model shoots. They will also never be given 2 different directions during the shoot as J did for the car on fire shoot.
    They dont need to be roasted at every turn, That does not help them become better. constructive criticism though is always a wonderful thing because that hopefully will help them rethink poses, expressions, feelings, and how to better work with the crew.

    like... they had a chart and the top has all the stuff required and as it goes down you only hit some of the points you needed to or whatever

Granted, I realize that most professional photographs have some form of airbrushing or filtering to make the subject more flattering.
