You should make an album just dedicated to the days of old! You have a voice unlike any other. It’s rough in all the right places and the execution is pure flawless!
Sage is right. This is an incredible cover. Go back to the 80's and 90's and have fun; record an entire album of a generation's classics. The best way to think about it is, your music brings the original's recognition as soon as that kid googles the song.
2 guitars, a steel guitar, one violin, a bass, a Cajun... acoustic is how it's done! Beautiful remake of Brooks and Dunn's song (It's my favorite track on Reboot!)

Cody!!! Great job!! The first time I became a fan were the days after high school,2009, driving up to Huntsville sneaking out to go to Nastys. Loved his voice then and his voice now. Cody will always feel like home to me.
I was moving back into country music recently and dug my way from the current (more country-pop-)artists back to my roots in this genre in the 90's where I used to listen to this all day long. It was a matter of time until I had to stumble across Cody Johnson and by no surprise was caught immediately. Always loved the song but Cody puts in so much feeling in this and you can feel the compassion with every note - accompanied by the fellows when they join in for the secondary voice it creates a certain magic and shows what's it all about: without cluttered technology, electronically adjusted tones, smoothed radio compatible songs - just a couple of guys making plain, true music. Love it!
His professionalism is spot on. You can feel how seriously he takes doing this cover justice. In my opinion I enjoy listening to Cody's version over the original.

Mr. Johnson, you sir are blessed with a beautiful gift not many people have and you use your gift to inspire, entertain and help people. I pray over you, your family and your band. I pray I get to see you in concert one day. You’ve helped me get through things I never would have been able to and that speaks volume.
I like this even more than the original. The acoustic arrangement brings out the nostalgia of the lyrics better than the B&D version. And there’s just no denying Cody is a heck of a country singer.
I always feel there’s two ways to cover a song... absolutely replicate it and do it honor or own it like it’s your own and stamp it with your signature....... Cody owned it!!!!🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
I have heard so many beautiful country covers in my life but this is the best one I have ever come across. The 3 minute mark makes me tear up. Thank you CJ 👏
This is so beautiful... it brings tears to my eyes ... the acoustic version is out of this world ... cody keep doing what ur doing because ur my favourite singer xx

I was raised off of Rural Route 3
Out past where the blacktop ends
We'd walk to church on Sunday morning
Race barefoot back to Johnson's fence
That's where I first saw Mary
On that roadside picking blackberries
That summer I turned a corner in my soul
Down that red dirt road
It's where I drank my first beer
It's where I found Jesus
Where I wrecked my first car,
I tore it all to pieces
I learned the path to heaven
Is full of sinners and believers
Learned that happiness on earth
Ain't just for high achievers
I've learned,
I've come to know
There's life at both ends
Of that red dirt road
Her daddy didn't like me much
In my shackled up GTO
I'd sneak out in the middle of the night
Throw rocks at her bedroom window
We'd turn out the headlights
Drive by the moonlight
Talk about what the future might hold
Down that red dirt road
It's where I drank my first beer
It's where I found Jesus
Where I wrecked my first car,
I tore it all to pieces
