*_So glad I ran into Sammy in San Francisco in 1984. He was so gracious and down to earth. Absolutely zero ego for a huge rock star. I never forget meeting him!_*
Well done John! Well written and well said. Thanks for honoring one of the all time greats. His coined phrase is, "ARE WE HAVING ANY FUN YET???" I love that you said no he is having more fun than anyone lol! True that!
Best speech ever! I love the ref to “if we could all just get out of our own way”…man, isn’t that the truth! Sammy has lived the life he’s chosen to live; most of us can’t say that!
What a great speech. Made me tear up. Unfortunately I never got to see Van Halen, but I saw Chickenfoot in San Francisco once. A once in a lifetime experience. To be in one room with Sammy Hagar is truly something else. The energy, the fun, the power, the celebration. John was 100% spot on about that.
I was sales manager for a vintage guitar store in the mid 1970's. Montrose was in trying out a Flying V. A customer who I had told Montrose might come in was standing at the counter and with a snotty tone asked where Montrose was. He thought he was proving it wasn't true. I told him he was right behind me in the back of the store. Sammy walked over next to the customer and I told the customer "and that is Sammy Hagar next to you". The customer was speechless. But he must not have been when he went back to school. The stores business tripled in the next couple of weeks. I never got to thank you Sammy. Thank you!
Congratulations Sammy, all your friends are proud of you, earned it walked gave it away your fans rock with you like a star you are !!!! love your spirit .......lay your heart ❤ out give live inspired good times till the world of your humanity..God bless you brother.. high hopes..
Saw the Dead a few times in the 80s as my college roommates were all Deadheads (I was not, but enjoyed the live shows). They were skeptical at first when JM joined Dead and Company, but he quickly won them over with his playing and humility to simply blend in with the band. A friend told me JM just closes his eyes and jams as if he was on a long, strange trip.
Shheeeeeit... this is 13 days old and either the comments have been removed or I'm the first to point this out 13 days after this was posted. Damn I love the 5150 era of Van Halen, I love Sammy Hagar, I Love ChickenFoot... so it's really hard to come to terms with the fact that they are all on Satan's payroll. no matter how cool, or legendary they seem, they're gargling Baal mayonnaise - if you catch my drift. Just a casual salute to the dark lords in broad daylight 2:52.
Ooph. John never misses an opportunity to convince everyone how clever he is. Even in a moment when he’s honoring someone else, his energy is very “look at me and be impressed”. The constant self-indulgence is tedious and exhausting. Sammy is great though!
He’s there because of their friendship that has grown in the last 9 years… if ya watch any of Sammy’s online stuff he’s featured John on a few occasions.. and Wabo parties

Love Sammy. Read his book and recommend it. Such good stories. This guy is a treasure.
Hearing a Loose Lucy with Hagar and Dead and Co. was one of my first steps into the Grateful Dead. Two legends.

Mayer giving a speech to a rock legend?
Long deserved
Guy Fieri looks like a widget 1:50 in the bottom right corner of the screen.
It looks like someone shrunk guy fieri when John starts talking
I google John's height, 6'3.

let me get on stage and convince people im freaking dumb. Thats the standard people should have right? not everyone can be clever even if they tried.
Don’t get it to be honest ??
Mayer is such a clown.
What a waste of sidewalk space.
why is john Mayer there?he knows nothing about rock music as his music was played most in elevators!!!!lol
Silly take
