The reason it does not sound very Disney is because they did not want the movie associated with their Disnry brand. They said it was too dark and strange. okay, maybe he mentions this later, but hasn’t yet in jack’s lament. elfman’s sprechstimme is so damn good. the transition between singing and speak-singing is seamless. like, when i was little I tried to sing along, before I received training with sprechstimme in my teens, and you quickly realize he’s not fully like… singing, half the time. I got a book of piano sheet music for this movie, and SO MUCH of his singing is indicated with that lil x note, and not an actual intended pitch. oogie boogie’s song and sally’s song used to be my favorite because I could sing along easier lmao

Just a short guide to vocal effect definitions here:
Creaking = Vocal fry with pitch
Distortion = "Noisy" sounding vocal effect produced by the false folds
Growl = "Rolling" sounding vocal effect produced by the epiglottis and/or the arytenoid
Vocal fry = Popcorn "fry" sound at the bottom your range

I always thought Sally was the voice of reason for Jack, and ultimately he realizes she’s right and he tries to undo his mistake by releasing Santa Claus. I don’t think of Jack as crazy but more of a dreamer who wanted something different. He felt like he was missing something and tried to fill the void with being Santa Claus but realizes he’s missing his other half, which is Sally.

Even then it wasn’t a thing like it is now producers didn’t start to utilize it much till 2000-2001 is when it begins to turn up more. It also wasn’t what it was today like they wouldn’t be using it for an entire vocal it would be used to correct small batches of small pitch issues to perfect it.

The "Oogie Boogie's Song" is my favourite Song of this Movie, maybe you can react to Voiceplay´s Cover of it, it´s really really good (With Geoff Castellucci)

The best way I could describe Jacks voice, especially his singing voice, is that it’s very ghostly. It’s gently in a very whispering sort of way

You know when you have a movie favorite if you sing along to the songs with the characters or you talk the character line and laugh because of the nostalgia 😊👀. I'm sure many thought that snow looked tasty 😁

Great video! And now I understand why I have always loved the voices in this film. I love deep male voices and distortion 😁
The singer that sings Jack's songs is amazing, the dinamics! It's my favourite singer from all Disney movies for sure.

Since I saw Elfman performing live too, I can confidently say he sounds just as amazing on stage, as in the movie. His voice and skills are crazy ❤️ And Page is so good he got the audience cheering before he even opened his mouth. Super talented crew 😍

You can really hear that it’s Danny Elfman singing for Jack if you listen to Danny’s band Oingo Boingo. The song Insanity has parts that just sound like Jack singing.
