Jack didn't force any of Halloween Town to do Christmas for him. They just love him so much that when he found a new "passion" they fully supported him because his joy is their joy. Jack has always lead them and taken care of them.
Plus it didn't help that he didn't understand what Christmas really was about (not necessarily the birth of Christ but what it makes such a lovely holiday besides presents, food and candy), if he did it might have gone a lot better.

Just because no one else has said it yet, just want to give the man Henry Selick the credit he so deserves for directing this masterpiece. It’s Burton’s poem, but Selick’s movie! And one I’ve immensely loved for years.
Well Said, Henry Selick was annoyed that Tim Burton put his name in the title mere weeks before its release. Tim Burton did this to get more audience in as he was on a high with Edward Scissorhands and Beetlejuice. This really annoyed Selick cause Tim used it for marketing purposes instead of honouring the director and creative team who worked while he didn’t only to create the story
In GA we have this played at the symphony and they play the movie but the orchestra plays the music in the background. I haven’t seen this one, but I’ve seen Harry Potter, and it’s so much fun definitely recommend going if they play it near you!!!!!!❤
@@adamdutton1609 I remember hearing about that some time ago and it really bugged me, too. As much as I do love Burton’s *actual* movies, the way he basically stamped his name all over it made me lose a bit of respect for him. Selick and the whole team he worked with obviously worked very hard on this film and certainly deserve much more credit than what is given.
Jack was stuck in a rut, bored and depressed with the repetitiveness of his role. He thought stealing Christmas was the answer, but what he really needed was to take that ambition into his own holiday. I'd say he was also pretty lonely despite being so popular.
I watched the director's commentary. They said every time a clay artist was in between projects and had a spare moment they were told to make bugs for the boogeyman.
The fact that the entire premise of the film is that Jack gets burned out so he tries something off the wall, and it ends up inspiring him for Halloween again, speaks volumes to anyone who has ever run into a creative block in their favorite hobby. In that way, Jack is very relatable.
About the Mayor, he’s literally a two-faced politician! There’s even a joke near the beginning-when he’s ringing Jack’s doorbell-where he says he’s only an elected official who can’t make decisions on his own. A little jab at politics 😊
The voice of Jack is Danny Elfman, who has collaborated with Tim Burton on many projects, mainly writing iconic scores for many of his films (he even wrote The Simpsons theme tune). His film scores are very recognisable and unique. He had some fabulous albums with his band, Oingo Boingo in the 1980s, as lead singer. I highly recommend in particular, listening to their album, 'Dead Man's Party', its like listening to a Jack Skellington pop album! It's an absolute classic!
It's been MY favorite for as long as I can remember and I'm 2 weeks older than this movie!! 😂😊🩷 Edit: in case you didn't know, the movie and I are both 30 years old!! 😅🩷
I love Jack Skellington ❤ though he was wanting to give a Vacation to Santa by taking care of Christmas for that year, his intentions wasn’t Wrong u know 😊 he was too naive to realize it sooner but when he did he made things right ❤ the scene where Jack falling into the arms of the angel is such a soft touch showing he’s not a bad guy by choice but that’s just what his job is.
Shocked you didn't recognize Jack. So many people start wearing their Nightmare Before Christmas clothing starting in October all the way through December. His face is everywhere. 😁 Perhaps you've seen it but just saw it as a regular skeleton head. I'm sure you'll notice now though.
I always felt like it was about trying to be someone you're not and learning to accept yourself as you are. Sometimes you CAN feel dissatisfied with who you are and feel like you need a change, but drastically trying to be someone you are not, isn't the answer. At least that's the message i've always taken away from it. Love this movie. Thank you for your wonderful reaction!
Funny you mention home alone because I only learned very recently that the mom from that movie does the main female voices (Sally and the creepy kid Shock) in this movie.
I always find it funny and cute that the 20-odd year old reactors find this movie creepy. I saw it when i was 11 and adored it. I don't think i recall anyone saying it was creepy, back then. I'm curious if people around my age (late 30s) feel the same? Since people are giving factoids, here's another one: Lock (little devil kid) was voiced by Paul Reubens, most commonly remembered for being Pee Wee Hermann. I always enjoy the reactions and look forward to seeing more. Edit: i LOL'd at your jaw-drop when you realized the kids were going to kidnap Santa Claus
Mid-forties here, was a young teen when this came out and all I ever felt was awe at the amazing artistry on display. Never felt creepy, just using opposites to explore a character. Love this film.
Creepy was normal for us back in the 80s and 90s. Remember the OG live action Bananas in Pajamas? They’ve tried to scrub them from existence but I remember.
🎶 "Just because I cannot see it, doesn't mean I can't believe it!" 🎶 Merry Christmas! ✝️ 🙏 🎄 🎁 Fun Fact: The first fully animated Disney film to not be traditionally animated. Inspiration Origin Fact: Tim Burton has said the original poem was inspired after seeing the Halloween merchandise display in a store being taken down and replaced by a Christmas display. The juxtaposition of ghouls and goblins with Santa and his reindeer sparked his imagination. Music Enthusiast Fact: In Oogie Boogie's (Ken Page) Song, there was a story boarded sequence where bugs came out of Oogie's eye and danced on his arm before he belches them off. It was removed from the film because it was considered difficult to make miniature armatures for all the bugs. Another scrapped scene involved his shadow dancing on a rotating orange background and was traditionally animated but ended up being cut for timing. Despite this, the lyrics during these scenes were included in the film's soundtrack. Math Enthusiast Fact: A crossed-out calculation on Jack's (Chris Sarandon) blackboard seems to equate 3 times the square of pi multiplied by 12 to Christmas Day (a Santa hat). The true numerical answer is approximately 355.31. If the decimal portion is dropped, this then equates to December 21st, the 355th day of the year--hence the crossed-out equation. December 21st however is the first day of winter in the northern hemisphere (winter solstice). It is also the birthday of Jeffrey Katzenberg, the film's executive producer and most often credited for turning Walt Disney Studios and its animation division around after joining in 1984.
My wedding was themed after Jack and Sally's song "Simply Meant to Be". I proposed to my wife on Halloween while we were dressed as Jack and Sally. This movie and it's deeper messages are what formed quite a lot of who my wife and I are as people. This will always be my favorite movie.
I think you may have missed the part saying Jack is the pumpkin king. Like he's the actual ruler of Halloween. That's why everyone is going along with it and not rejecting him or his ideas.
Thanks, Oscar! 🥶 I'd like to acknowledge Henry Selick's directing... which paired so nicely with the writings of Tim Burton, Michael McDowell and Caroline Thompson.
I absolutely love this film! I've seen it more times than I can count and yet I only realised recently that the voice of Sally is Catherine O'hara, the mum from Home Alone! Which I've also seen more times than I can count so I really should have noticed a lot sooner 😂😂
I watched this when it first came out in theaters, and used to have the CD of the soundtrack. But hadn't watched it since the 90s, until I watched it with my best friend a few years ago. I'd forgotten how wonderful it is. And I sang along to every song. It all came back to me, the mark of good writing. 😊
I just want you to know I enjoy your channel very much! You have been my #1 reactor to go to for movies lately. Keep doing what you're doing, the content is fantastic!
You could pause this movie at essentially any random frame, and it would be a worthy piece of artwork in of itself. Nevermind the most spectacular of the scenes and vistas we get to see... There's nothing like this movie, nor, I suspect, will there ever be again either. It's an absolute masterwork in every respect.
16:41 If you go by the books and other game, he essentially was from another holiday realm which was dying out, was allowed to stay in Halloween Town, became friends with Jack, entered the contest against Jack as the next King of Halloween, was going to be the puppet of the former King before he lost, and never was uncorrupted before the former King retired to the pumpkin patch where he rotted away.
Well there's a running debate on whether this is a christmas movie or a halloween movie. Imo it's not necessarily either. It's a story that happens to involve those 2 holidays. :)
4:12 I mean, the former King of Halloween is literally in the pumpkin batch beneath that hill in his final resting place. So Jack is essentially going to the last place of his predecessor to sing out his insecurities in his grave’s presence in a sense.
4:45 If you go by the books that came out later, she is the daughter of the Dream Realm’s rulers who the doctor had kidnapped, wiped the memories of, and has been keeping as a bargaining chip to keep them from pursuing him.
So, this movie’s directed by Tim Burton. Tim burton is the god of stop motion. Just check out Coraline, Corpse Bride, Beetlejuice, Alice and Wonderland, Miss Periguins home for peculiar children. He’s so clever. But I think it’s a cool little piece of information, that his wife (up until 2014) was Helena Bonham Carter (Bellatrix Lestrange from Harry Potter. I know Harry Potter wasn’t a Tim Burton movie, but she was in a lot of his movies.
You recognized "what's this?"but not "this is Halloween"? Lol i would've thought the latter would be the more likely of the 2, it's included in many Halloween playlists.
19:16 jack is in charge of doing the stuff for Halloween which makes him very popular and everyone very much respecting him. And he has almost as much power as the mayor
i’m always curious whether people consider this a christmas or halloween movie! i grew up watching it as a halloween movie but i definitely see it as a christmas movie now lol. either way it’s such a comfort movie for me, i’m excited you’re reacting to it!!
I loved this movie as a kid! I was also a "sid" i ripped mt barbies heads off and cut off plushies limbs and sew them onto eachother xD Kids love creepy things
I love how this movie is made for both Christmas and Halloween at the same time 💕🎥🎃🎄, plus both Jack and Oogie Boogie are my favorite characters in this movie 🖤😈
I feel like you missed the fact that Jack is the RULER of Halloween Town. They're going along with his plans and stuff cause he's the boss, like how Santa is the boss of Christmas Town. That's why the Mayor went looking for him at the beginning of the film. That's why he has so much sway.
The guy who voices Jack is Danny Elfman, he’s one of the greatest movie composers of all time, and he’s written pretty much all of the music for most of Tim Burton’s films
This film is so close to my heart. It has that right amount of horror and wholesomeness to it. Quick fact: Jack actually does know who Sally is. They were just not great with communication. A prime example was when Sally tried to warn Jack in the film. As well as anytime Jack is too busy with the other citizens of Halloween town. It's when they finally get a moment alone together that they connect. Sally was worried about Jack's well being and knew Jack more than his fans and Jack saw it and even acknowledged Sally's talents and even saw her as an equal.
in my years i still never realized jack was the nightmare before Christmas. i always thought it was just Halloween before Christmas. i never read that deep into it. nice catch
There is an age old debate about what movies are just so classic that they are timeless. The Nightmare Before Christmas is just that. Leave it to Tim Burton to make a dark and scary movie about Halloween actually become a Christmas movie favorite for all ages. However, the question remains: Is this a Halloween movie or a Christmas movie? You decide.
Omg, I had this on for Halloween for my 4 year old son and I was ready to stop the movie at any time, but he loved it. The catchy opening song probably helped a lot. And he loved the Design of the characters 🙈🤣
My son favorite Christmas 🎄 movie. He used to wacth this every day for months. I can sing every song in the movie. 😂 great reaction to it. Glad you like it
You've never seen this movie before?!! 😱😱💀💀💀 On another note, you should hear Voice Plays version of the Oogie Boogie Man song, Geoff Castelluci is an amazing bass singer 💖💖💖💖
OMG MATE listen there s BOOK that continues Sally's story its cannon and its a beautiful read! It goes into Sally backstory theres more to her than we think. ALSO Sandman makes an appreance its rly cool! i highly recommend you check it out its an easy read too not too long and so worth it.
Such a fantastic movie! Speaking of christmas songs in a minor, you should check out Finnish singer Tarja, she just released her second dark christmas album, it is soooo cool, both of them are. Check out Jingle Bells by her for a super eerie and intriguing rendition :D
I saw this when it first came out, I was 6 or 7 and showed my nephew when he was 5. lol I am SO lucky neither of us had nightmares. LOL I think the music takes the edge off from the overly creepy stuff. I don't know.
I do agree, Jack and Sally getting together was always very sudden and didn't make a lot of sense to me. This is another one I grew up watching btw, so lots of people around me praised them as being this big romantic couple or relationship goals, and I just don't see it cause there's not a lot of focus on them lol. Sally is awesome, and she is the only one who had sense like Santa said, and she of course saw Jack at the beginning of the movie and saw his vulnerabilities and all of that, so I have no doubt SHE will be a great partner. But Jack is very self absorbed, even if he is a nice person on the inside. It's good that he was able to learn in the end and correct his actions, so maybe he will continue to be able to do that and will be a good partner too.
"Not what I was expecting from a christmas movie" - Cause technically, it's NOT a christmas movie. People do say it's in a strange position where you don't really know if you should watch it in October or December, but that is actually the inspiration for a lot of the visuals, when the second director (Not Burton, the other one) saw christmas decorations in the mall next to halloween ones, right between those two holidays. And of course, as far as I know, the story is based on a poem that Burton wrote as a child
The if the first film I ever remember watching. This and then a ton of Disney movies, plus the Wizard of Oz. At the time my parents were very young and very lax. But I still hold this movie dear to my heart.
If you’re taking suggestions for holiday movies- might I suggest Klaus? It’s from 2019, tragically underrated, and it has become a Christmas classic in my house
Jack had innocent intentions, he was just bored, restless, and depressed, and despite being popular no one really knew him. I see it as a movie not just about accepting who you are, but about rekindling passion.
He wanted something to change but he didn’t know what needed to yet.

So, many years later, I thought I'd drop in.
And there was old Jack, still looking quite thin,
With four or five skeleton children at hand,
Playing strange little tunes in their xylophone band.
And I asked old Jack, "Do you remember the night

May not be in the movie, but at least it's on the soundtrack.
I believe that when it's at the end, it's called an "epilogue"; a prologue comes beforehand. ;-)
Jack : "What's this, what's this? There's white stuff in the air"
Also Jack : "The children are throwing snowballs"
I like to think that Jack’s knowledge of what is in Christmastown grows as he continues the song.
Maybe he knows some stuff about snow but just had never seen it before himself. I mean he had all those books.

YOUVE NEVER SEEN HOME ALONE?!?! Best Christmas movie by far
Well there's a running debate on whether this is a christmas movie or a halloween movie. Imo it's not necessarily either. It's a story that happens to involve those 2 holidays. :)
my absolute favourite movie as a young child...and it shows
4:12 I mean, the former King of Halloween is literally in the pumpkin batch beneath that hill in his final resting place.
My mom had me watch this movie first when I was around 5 years old, and I've loved it ever since! Glad that you liked it ❤❤
So, this movie’s directed by Tim Burton.
Danny Elfman did the brilliant music score for this movie.
I watch it for both. Justan excuse to watch it more! 😂❤💀
it’s a november movie to transfer from halloween to christmas 😊
@@l.p.864 I couldn't agree more!! 🤣🩷🥰
Danny Elfman does the singing part of Jack
16:55 At least one… ME 😂🤷🏾♂️
I loved Lock, Shock, & Barrel!!!
I think Sally and Jack were friends before they got together ❤
I loved this movie as a kid!
I was also a "sid" i ripped mt barbies heads off and cut off plushies limbs and sew them onto eachother xD
Kids love creepy things
I love how this movie is made for both Christmas and Halloween at the same time 💕🎥🎃🎄, plus both Jack and Oogie Boogie are my favorite characters in this movie 🖤😈
Movie suggestion next: *Heathers* . It's a dark comedy, a classic! 😊 it would be a great one to react to
im guilty of liking the santy clause song the kids sing as a kid LMAO and the Sally song and Jacks Lament song in the beginning
Another great one to see next to this one is Corpse Bride
21:42 RIP to Ken Page who played Oogie one of my favorite fun villains of all time.
The mom from home alone does sallys voice in this movie
Because Jack and everyone else in Halloween Town are "Halloweenee" they can't do other stuff because is in their nature, or that is what I understood.
Sally was worried about Jack's well being and knew Jack more than his fans and Jack saw it and even acknowledged Sally's talents and even saw her as an equal.
in my years i still never realized jack was the nightmare before Christmas. i always thought it was just Halloween before Christmas. i never read that deep into it. nice catch
the mayor has that customer service face on demand, I'm jealous hahahaha
Tim Burton got the idea when he was in a store and they were taking down the Halloween merchandise and replacing it with Christmas; the juxtaposition.
This was my daughter's favourite film when she was 3, only she called it just Halloween, which gave us some odd looks at the playground 😅
we LOVED this movie as children. im 40 and STILL sing the songs when i hear them lol
Just sat down with cocoa to watch you react to this! This is one of my all time favorite movies, so glad you picked it
Hey, me too!! 🥰🎃🎅🏻💀
i get so excited when u upload ahhhh
If you want something semi festive and halloween-ish at the same time is The Curse Of BridgeTown
The fact my 4 year old is obsessed with this movie is crazy.
8:32 the best question anyone has ever asked about this film
21:54 this is my favorittte song
This was my favorite movie as a kid...and it still is.
OMG MATE listen there s BOOK that continues Sally's story its cannon and its a beautiful read! It goes into Sally backstory theres more to her than we think. ALSO Sandman makes an appreance its rly cool! i highly recommend you check it out its an easy read too not too long and so worth it.
This movie is actually a debate now, people can't agree on whether it's a Christmas movie, or Halloween movie 😅😂
This is my favorite Tim Burton movie!! Im a sucker for musicals and Halloween lol! ❤❤❤
Watch Klaus please! Perfect time to watch that masterpiece
❤big please from me as well
Please watch it’s a wonderful life!! You’ll love it !! Such a classic
This was all stop motion . Not computer not cgi
Such a fantastic movie!
Speaking of christmas songs in a minor, you should check out Finnish singer Tarja, she just released her second dark christmas album, it is soooo cool, both of them are. Check out Jingle Bells by her for a super eerie and intriguing rendition :D
03:34 No thank you, the stopmotion is real enough for me.
Plz Disney never do this
I love that his favorite townspeople were the barbershop quartet vampires lmao
The movie was actually confirmed to be a Halloween movie by the crew, but nothing wrong with enjoying it as a Christmas movie too
I saw this when it first came out, I was 6 or 7 and showed my nephew when he was 5. lol I am SO lucky neither of us had nightmares.
You might say this is a movie for both Halloween AND Christmas! Also yes it was pretty obvious that Sally had much more common sense than the others😉😂
I used to be so scared of this movie growing up and now I love it
Would love to see reactions to Love Actually and It's a Wonderful Life if you haven't seen those yet! :)
Love this movie! Great reaction man!
I can't wait to watch you react to the rest of Avatar: The Last Airbender.
You should watch Corpse Bride if you haven’t watched it yet :)
If you’re taking suggestions for holiday movies- might I suggest Klaus? It’s from 2019, tragically underrated, and it has become a Christmas classic in my house
