bawled my eyes out watching this again with you. The scene where the dead meet their families and Emily finding peace both made me cry. I love Halloween
victor decided to marry emily because he knew that victoria was going to marry lord barkis, so he thought there was no point for him to try to go back to her anymore. besides, he liked emily. not romantically but he liked her. the ending of this movie is perfect and so beautifully made!
Honestly the fact that people even want them to be together irritates me because in my opinion they missed the point of the story. Yes Emily did give Victor up but if you remember her sole purpose her dream after she died was to be set free. Marriage was just a fallacy of a missed out dream when she was alive. I completely believe that this story follows a lesson for both Victor and Emily. For Emily she learned to let go of her past and her missed out dreams. She learned freedom is something you can give to yourself rather than seek it out in other people. As for Victor, he learned what true sacrifice is and what it means to love someone unconditionally. He learned the importance of cherishing every moment and it was all thanks to Emily. Victor was giving up what many deem the most valuable his life, and let’s be frank it wasn’t because he loved Emily or in my opinion because Victoria was marrying someone else. It was because he knew Emily would never ask him to sacrifice his life to be with her. And in that moment he saw a humanity within her. A heartbreak. And Victor chose to make the ultimate sacrifice to give Emily what she believed was her dream. While I believe Victorias marriage to the devil (I refuse to name him) played a part. To me it wasn’t as significant as Victor wanting to make that sacrifice for Emily. In the end both of them learned valuable lessons. And Emily was able to find peace while Victor was able to find love. Btw sorry for the long response this is my favorite movie. So much so I’m getting a tattoo sleeve of Emily Victoria and Victor on my right arm. So when I say it my favorite I mean I love it enough to have an entire sleeve of it on me body for the rest of my life.
@@Saeqoii I can see why you want that but it was never going to happen. He was in love with Victoria not Emily. While I love Emily she is my favorite character. They never had the love Victor and Victoria had. They were both what the other needed in that time. Emily said it herself “I was a bride once and my dreams were taken from me. And now I’ve gone and taken them from someone else. I love you Victor but you’re not mine” If you don’t agree that’s okay I love Emily and she got what she truly needed in the end she got set free.
6:10 so what some people miss when watching this is during the first song, the Everglotts (Victoria’s parents) explain that they’re broke and they need their daughter to marry Victor since his family has a successful business
When she pulled out certain flowers from her bouquet and mentioned some type of symbolize each had, I couldn’t stop myself from tearing up. I research wired things and I knew what she was talking about. Back in her time a bride’s bouquet was carefully made. Certain flowers didn’t just symbolize something it also was meant to bring something about. Roses: Meant to bring about and continue eternal love. Lillies: meant to bring about sweetness (happiness) into the couples life. Baby’s Breath: meant to bring about as many healthy children as the couple wanted. So when she stopped mentioning what they meant you now know that she wasn’t just broken hearted by not being a bride, but also that she had wanted to be a loving mother as well and never got the chance…
Emily is an example of bad things happen to good people. She is has a heart of gold and most likely cared for others. The time she decided to be selfish was the end for her. I felt even worse for Emily when she was describing her bouquet. She wanted a happy future full of love and family with who she wanted to marry. It was nice seeing Victor interact with Emily and treat her almost like a friend after he calmed down. Victor really should've talked to Emily about what he wanted to do to avoid hurting Emily more. He made her so happy by telling her his parents would like her and wanted her to meet them. I appreciated that Victor did realize just how badly he hurt Emily and apologized; piano duet was my favorite!!

the only movie I ended up not wanting ''him to get the girl''.. Emily was so selfless and If you think about it what she did was an act of true love towards Victor
@@Sailorgirl1207 her whole character is so tragic 💔 .. I mean imagine being murdered right after your wedding by your husband, grieving for years and years but never giving up that you will find true love or thar it eventually will find you. Then getting proposed to, on top of that by a good and generous guy but it’s a misunderstanding and the only guy that showed you true love you cannot have because it’s just not meant to be.. man 😪

That's what I love! Although Emily and Victor look like a better fit, Victoria and Victor feel in sync, more room for them to be a couple. Like the practice wedding where Victor kept messing up, Victoria was patient and even helped Victor in her own way. I love Emily and she did like Victor, but she needs to be at peace...

Rare…? It’s quite common. She’s the one most ppl want him to end up with for a reason. Literally everyone wants Emily and Victor together instead of Victor and Victoria
Great review! I know I'm late to the party, but to answer to your questions about the arranged marriage, the Everglots (Victoria's family) were bankrupt. They had titles, sure, but either they'd squandered the family fortune, or the family had been hemorrhaging wealth for generations, leaving them with an empty safe. The Van Dorts (Victor's family) were fish merchants. So, not low in status, but definitely middle-class. However, they managed to become wealthy over a relatively short amount of time. They were the 'nouveau riche', or 'newly rich'. If you look at their house, you can see it's not the sort of building a struggling family would live in. The marriage would've given the bankrupt aristocrats some much-needed wealth, while also elevating the middle-class to their level. Win-win, in the parents' eyes.
I loved this movie as a kid, and the best song is the one in the bar where they sing of her death. This movie is Stop Motion so they are clay figures and they move them a tiny bit each time, which would take so long. (I googled apparently they took 55 Weeks, which is a Year, 1 month and 3 weeks.) Honestly, worth it.
When Victor found out Victoria was marrying Lord Barkis, he thought he would have no chance with her, and then he realized that he also have feelings for Emily (which in my opinion is a far better partner for him)
same, i really wanted victor and emily to be together in the end, since he was ready to die so he could oficially marry her :( he clearly had feelings for her...
I know I’m late but Victor never had feelings for Emily and Emily never had feelings for victor Emily just loved the thought of being married while victor actually loved Victoria
No, cause when I tell you I'm OBSESSED with this movie...I'm not joking! Glad to see you guys react to it, I don't know why it wasn't in my recommendations earlier. Happy Halloween 👻💜
You find out what the two family's want from setting their children up together, from the first song "According to Plan", my personal favourite opening number to a musical. The Vandorts want to be "elevated to the heights of society" since they're rich, but are only lowly fish merchants The Everglots want to escape "from deepest poverty" since they're part of high society, but have no money to their name. I love that song because the opening does a great job at showing the monotony of the living world, and throughout it, you're introduced to the two families through parallel lyrics seeing the stark contrast of how happy the Vandorts are from this arrangement, while the Everglots are furious about it.
14:32 And remember the plan was to elope, there's the line: "They told not a soul, kept the whole thing tight." So her family doesn't know Emily's dead,(chances are nobody from wherever she was from does) probably think she's still out there, having run off to marry some stranger they disproved of, with their family jewels/some of their gold now missing. Not only that, but that's the last that Emily ever sees of her family after that.
I love this movie to death I watch it every time I have a chance and it becomes my traditions to watch it every Halloween Gosh thanks you guys for choosing this masterpiece I love Halloween 🎃
