2:25 to clarify Victor’s family is rich but no status. Victoria’s family has aristocracy status but broke so you can see where are they going with this marriage.
Emily was so selfless, she gave up her "happy ending" so Victoria could live on the rest of her life with someone she loved. I'm convinced Emily realized that Victor was keen on marrying her only because he thought he had lost Victoria- I definitely think Emily was the best choice though- so kind-hearted and funny, she deserved better!
@@DanGamingFan2406 Emily deserved the world, she would have done wonderfully with someone as vivacious and lively as herself and it’s tragic she never got that. But she is unfortunately correct: she would never have found her true peace in someone else’s stolen happiness. In personality, temperament, and outlook, Victoria truly was the better match (and I find her a badly underrated character). And while I love Emily, and she definitely grows beautifully as a character- it should not be too lightly forgotten that for most of the movie… she _is_ holding Victor hostage, against his will. Her immediate reaction on learning that their marriage is invalid shows that she knows clearly enough he doesn’t want to be there; and while she recoils at the idea of killing him, she would not (at that time) have been above keeping the truth from him to stop him from leaving.
The best choice for Victor was Victoria. But yeah, hope Emily can have another chance, maybe in another life, to have someone that loves her the way she wants and have their happy marriage and life after.🤔
Fun fact: This was Johnny Depp's first time voice acting in a theatrical film. Also, music composer Danny Elfman originally wrote the part of the character Bonejangles, as he was looking for another musician to sing it, but after failing to find a voice that fit, Tim Burton asked Elfman if he would sing it. The result was so brutal on his vocal chords that he was left hoarse whenever he had to voice the character.
Fun fact: the stop motion animation in this film is so good, some people thought it was actually CGI. And Tim Burton was so offended by this, when he made his next stop motion film, he actually held back ON PURPOSE so people could still tell that it was stop motion animation.
10:24 And remember the plan was to elope, there's the line: "They told not a soul, kept the whole thing tight." So her family doesn't know Emily's dead,(chances are nobody from wherever she was from does) probably think she's still out there, having run off to marry some stranger they disproved of, with their family jewels/some of their gold now missing. Not only that, but that's the last that Emily ever sees of her family after that.
25:38 I think Víctor decided to die for Emily because he thought he had nothing else to live for. His parents always were mean to him, the girl he fell for got married to someone else, so from his view in the land of dead he has his dog scraps, his friend the carriage driver and a girl who loves him
This is definitely a good stop motion classic. I mean, it does have Tim Burton’s classic tropes all over it. Creepy elements, dark humor, and of course the actors he usually picked; Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter. It’s a nice movie to put on whenever October comes.
Real quick: you know the tradition about it being bad luck for the bride and groom to see each other before the ceremony on their wedding day? It goes all the way back to arranged marriages like this one, when the norm was the bride and groom literally weren’t allowed to even meet each other before the ceremony. The beliefs was if they did, they would back out.
28:05 - when i first saw this scene i (like most others) had already put together the pieces to figure out barkis murdered emily, and the fact that he got so angry when victoria said she had no money, iwas like girl get to the church before he gets to you (i genuinely thought that he was going to murder her before she could get to the church in time).
2:27 Victor's family, the Van Dorts, are "nouveau riche," meaning they're new money. They're fish merchants who came into a LOT of money recently, which is why Victor's parents are unclassy/tacky compared to Victoria's parents. Victor's mother wears a tacky fur stole while the Everglots don't wear that kind of clothes. Victor's parents speak loudly and try to use a posh accent to seem like they know about luxurious homes/items when they enter the Everglot home, but their lack of a filter betrays them. Especially Victor's father, who initially says Victoria's mother is Victoria. Victor's mother has to silence her husband often, because he says stupid things. The Everglots are marrying Victoria to Victor to join their families' wealth, and Victor's family wants to gain the Everglot social status.
Beetlejuice Cameo Would Go Like This B.J.: Hey Are Sure You’re Not Dead You Look Pretty Dead To Me *Holds a Mirror that shows himself as a corpse* Vic: AHHH 😱 *falls off the chair* B.J.: Well Now He’s Extra Dead, I Got a Wedding To Go Too, Cya Emily *Rides a Sand Worm Out of here*
Mr. Bonejangles was sung by Danny Elfman himself. They had so many people audition for the part, but no one was quite right, so Danny finally just went, "Fuck it, I'll do it."
This movie marks the fifth collaboration of star Johnny Depp and director Tim Burton. Sadly, it also marks the final film for storyboard artist Joe Ranft. Corpse Bride and Cars were both dedicated to his memory. 🙏
I love how even Tim Burton is still a fan of classic Hollywood figures. He had horror great Vincent Price in his movie Edward Scissorhands and Peter Lorre (albeit a caricature) as a maggot living in Emily’s head.
I like that Emily found peace after death, when someone took her chance to live. At least, she wasn’t like that guy who didn’t care taking someone else’s chance for a better life. Lord Barkins…we never knew his story, just that he is a murderer. But what a disgusting guy… Love Victor and Victoria, and together even better❤️❤️
Even though I prefer Emily and Victor. Victoria gets unnecessary hate. I’m glad Emily decided to move on, because Victor marrying her would mean he’d have to die. Victoria and Victor are cute together like come on!
Victor had so much more chemistry with Emily. With Victoria it was just more of a kindred spirits kind of things, where they just settled for each other practically by default. Really they felt more like siblings, but with Emily there felt like a real connection. He even admits that under different circumstances they could be something.
Oh good, I thought I was the only one who felt this. Maybe it was because Victor had more screentime with Emily, but it felt like they made more sense. Victor only had about three moments with Victoria(one of which was the rehearsal), but I dunno, thought Emily made more sense.
Hi Tim and Mal Tim Burton The Corpse Bride is one of my favorite movie Emily back story is so sad And I will always love the ending to this movie I am a Victor and Emily shiper
Another movie that traumatized me. I remember back then at school for Halloween, they would put this movie on and during the first few seconds of it,I was so scared I cried and the teacher had to turn off the movie because of this, which made her switch for Charlie and The Chocolate Factory instead. Ever since I have PTSD from Corpse Bride. I couldn't even watch it. Yet here I am,commenting.

For someone who's been dead for a while, she looks pretty hot.
"Keep it down. We're in a church." 😂
At least the dead have manners.
And the "evening" from the skeleton to the priest was the perfect punchline

I’d love to think that Victor and Victoria eventually had a daughter and named her Emily, to keep her memory alive

One of the most beautiful Tim Burton's films. It's almost 20 years old and is still one of the best stop motion films. 💍👰🦋

The amazing Christopher Lee voicing the priest.
One of Tim Burtons best stop motion picture, love the soundtrack, visuals and voice acting, especially Johnny Depp.
Out of...2? Lol, 3, if you count "Vincent".
I had NO idea Christopher Lee was in this movie, r.i.p the goat 💔
What who did he play???!!!!
@matthewhutchinson9353 He was the pastor
@@matthewhutchinson9353 Pastor Galswells.
His voice is so smooth and deep, it's impossible for me to miss it. RIP Christopher Lee.
Most underrated Burton and Depp movie. Its so good!

The character designs in this movie was weird and “unsettling “ XD that’s why I love Tim Burton’s art style .
Such a classic childhood masterpiece
This is my favorite Tim Burton movie and I love the music
It’s like I’m watching a film adaptation of a novel from the first half of the 19th century.
Tim Burton is one smart cookie.

Classic Tim Burton movie I really like the stop motion and the whole Victorian era vibes of this movie
Danny Elfman really outdid himself with this movie's score. It so beautiful ❤
Mr. Bonejangles was sung by Danny Elfman himself. They had so many people audition for the part, but no one was quite right, so Danny finally just went, "Fuck it, I'll do it."
9:31 It’s almost like “Coco” or “The Book of Life” for the Land of Remembrance with skeletons
You mean the other way around, since Corpse Bride was before them🤔
This movie marks the fifth collaboration of star Johnny Depp and director Tim Burton.

One of my favorite movies ever tbh. Visually stunning, fun, macabre, and beautifully melancholic. 🥰💕
I love the contrast that the land of the dead looks more alive than the land of the living
One of my favorite Tim Burton movies ever made! ❤
A great movie from my childhood. Thanks, Tim, and a happy saturday to you as well. Take care and God bless you. Greetings from Colombia to you as well
I'm soooo happy I got to watch my favorite stop motion movie with you Tim!!
Very fantastic songs and music.
Subtle foreshadowing but at 7:22 is a “murder” of crows
Johnny Depp was the perfect choice to be in the stop motion movie
I LOVE this movie, I hadn’t seen it for a quite a while, I should rewatch it if I get a chance, i use to watch it like all the time.
26:14 to 26:27 The worst Wedding Feast ever!
Aside from the Red Wedding, you mean.
If you’d like to see another stop motion movie, I definitely recommend Kubo and the Two String ❤
It’s made by Laika, the studio that made Coraline.
I second this. Laika consistently does beautiful work and ParaNorman is another great Halloween film.
i love this and scary godmother the most
