Victor really feels like any millennial ever. Full of anxiety and unable to get out of an uncomfortable situation because of it
Not all millennials deal with anxiety issues.
im gen z and I relate with my full spirit😭
@@ashleydowney1222 no shit Sherlock..

💯😩
The little boy recognizing his grandpa is my favorite part of the movie
grampaw?
That and the gone with the wind reference killed me.
Same
That made me tear up remembering my own grandparents
The line the elder says:
“Why would you wanna go up there when people are dying to come down here?”
IS SO VASTLY UNDERRATED
I know this is an old comment but, that line is poetry. Reminds me of another quote in the game Grim Fandango. (Which is a game about the dead)
Fun fact: the stop motion animation in this film is so good, some people were convinced it was actually CGI.
And Tim Burton was ridiculously offended by this, because he's proud of the art of stop motion animation, and all the effort that goes into it.
So much so, that when he made Frankenweenie, he actually held back on making it look good ON PURPOSE so people could still tell that it was stop motion animation
🥺..aw, I haven't heard of that before...
oh wow that's crazy. Regardless all tim burton fills are extraordinary and unique. He never disappoints.
I sat in on a Mackinnon and Saunders talk once (the people who made the puppets) and for this movie the characters didn’t have replaceable faces, they had MECHANISMS UNDER THE RUBBER SKIN adjusted by tiny tools through little holes and the mechanisms mimicked certain joints and muscles. That is INSANE detail! Apparently Emily was the hardest one to make and to handle because not only was she delicate, but the dress itself required an armature and rigging for how much it flows and ripples.
Victor was one of the ones on display at the talk and he was gorgeous 😀 the puppet is surprisingly tall.
I’d have said it was something to be proud of, not offended by.
@@StoryMing I think the point here is however hard you think CGI is to pull off, stop motion is harder and takes longer.
Corpse bride is a very unique film as it shows the complications of marriage and has one of the greatest quotes: "Can a heart still break once it's stopped beating?" *A rumor to which can NEVER be answered*
Billy outwardly telling us he disliked smiling, little does he know that his smile makes me smile🥺🥺
And his laugh is contagious. The way he throws his head back reminds me of Salem from Sabrina the Teenage Witch 😂

Corpse bride is definitely a childhood favorite. I remember a lot of kids being freaked out by it but I always thought the film was so beautiful and sad. Plus the music in here in amazing and something I still listen to as an adult . Tim burton has some gems and a lot are Halloween themes so billy you’ll probably find some other ones you’ll like as well
Totally agree with you! It's hauntingly beautiful, this film. Actually, Victor and Victoria look a lot like my Italian great-grandparents in their wedding photo. Their clothes, hair colors and styles, the height difference...I think that makes this particular Tim Burton film even more special to me.
@@alexandrialeonora6542 ooohhj that’s so cool

What Happened to Victor's parents?: After Victor goes missing, they ride around town in Mayhew's carriage looking for him. Then Mayhew kicks the bucket, leaving the carriage driverless and out of control. *They're never seen or even mentioned after this.*
Oh wow. I never even thought of this before.
They don't appear as "new arrivals" in the land of the dead, so... I assume they made it home, alive? And, I guess, weren't invited to the wedding now that they are no relation to the [replacement] groom?
They are definitely marketed for kids. But Burton’s movies always have a deeper meaning for adults.
And Danny Elfman usually does the music for Tim Burton, as well as singing voices (Jack Skellington and I believe Bone Jangles the skeleton who sang the song about Emily.)
He’s a freaking GENIUS. Also Burton loves doing stop motion for his movies and honestly it was the best choice ever.
Very true! I was just thinking this, as we get older we realize the deeper meanings of these movies!
This is true about all great movies, whether "made" for adults or kids. After all, it's the layers that make the cake. Anything that's for a singular audience is a shallow work. Great works work for everyone - kids, teens, adults, and older adults.
Think Harry Potter, LOTR, Star Wars, and the like. The entire family can watch these films and all get something out of the experience
@@LA_HA we know that.
We were using Tim Burton as the example. All the other things you mentioned are moot.
@@mellysomething6296 I know that y'all know. I expanded it a little as a part of the conversation. Is that okay? I'll delete it if it bothers you, no problem. It's not that important to me
Depends what you mean by "kids" - there's certainly nothing inappropriate for young children in this movie, but I think the target audience was teens and young adults.
I think the age rating for it was 7+ (or PG in America), but that only means that there's nothing unsuitable for kids that age in the movie, not that it's marketed for that age group.
Someone pointed out that Victoria was like a mirror reflection of Victor while Emily was everything he wasn't. That's why it could've worked either way, whomever he married it would've been a happy marriage.
Victoria's shy, basically never known love from her overly controlling parents, and struggles to fit in with the expectations they have of her. She was first attracted to Victor because of his piano playing because music was banned from her life and we can see from their first meeting and from their wedding rehearsal that while others are annoyed and irritated by his nervousness and clumsiness Victoria would be patient and supportive of him. Plus throughout the storyline they both learn to stand up for themselves.
Emily on the other hand plays piano like him so they share the same passions and unlike him is carefree, spirited, has a good sense of humour and effortlessly charming so she'd be good at bringing him out of his shell. I think she has known that to some degree this couldn't work but she was so focused on how she'd been denied her happiness that she kept convincing herself that this was meant to be. But she made the right choice the end - no-one's denying that what happened to her wasn't fair, but the point is that it happened and it can't be undone, and she can't get her happiness back if it comes at the expense of anothers.
I actually felt he loved both emily and victoria which is why I also felt either choice he made would be a good one for him, but I am glad that emily was able to be set free in the end and finally be happy.
@@gabrielleduplessis7388 yee. I dont think Victor loved Emily in a sense of romantic love. He certainly started to care for her.
I do think if he died and went with the whole ordeal, they would work. As he already considered dying forEmily to marry him in the first place.
But at the end, Emily is dead. :(
I thinl they both are Victors soulmates in a way. Wich os cute
@@barbicel
Exactly. I think Victor _cared_ sincerely about Emily, and could see what an amazing person she was; but ultimately, it was Victoria that he truly loved, in the romantic sense. He agreed to go through with the marriage to Emily because he felt badly for her, and because Victoria was no longer an option.
I’ve…never though of it this way. I’m VERY much a Victor/Victoria shipper, but this a great take as well 🥰
I’ve said for years that Corpse Bride is basically a gender bent Phantom of the Opera. Much like Victor, I don’t think Christine actually loves the phantom/Erik in the romantic sense. Is she empathic enough to know and care about what’s he’s been through? Yes. But she’s not “in love” with him, similar to how Victor isn’t “in love” with Emily. I think he grew to care for her enough to be willing to marry her because he was of the belief Victoria moved on from him. Which isn’t true obviously, but poor girl is just doing what society expects of her. It’s clear from how hurt he is by this belief that he is IN LOVE with her, but he felt the need to move on himself if she already had.
Strangely, I know Victoria/Victor are believed to be “too much sameness” but it’s a rare instance in which I wholly believes it works for them. I also think Victor needed someone to get him out of his shell to be someone better for Victoria, and that was Emily. In case anyone hasn’t gotten it by now, I love this movie WAY too much and have had years upon years to consider all this 😂
@@jenniferhiemstra5228
I was thinking more along the lines of a parallel to Les Miserables, myself; with the Marius - Cosette - Eponine love triangle.
The Phantom comparison works less well, in my opinion, because Emily... is not a female Erik.
Whereas the Corpse Bride is a jilted (and murdered) lover, the Phantom is what he is because from his birth his horrific appearance put him outside the pale of all human sympathy. In other words, up until tragedy struck, _she_ had a perfectly normal life, with family, friends, etc.- an existence entirely unknown to _him._ She was betrayed by one man. He was shunned by the whole world.
- And (therefore?) Emily is not out for vengeance on the entire human race if she cannot get love; she never even so much as had any impulse to harm Victor for rejecting her, nor Victoria for being her rival; she was simply devastated and heartbroken. Erik on the other hand is prepared to kill both the object of his obsessive love, and any number of random others in retaliation, if he cannot have his bride.
- Also, while Emily is clearly a talented musician, Erik is a musical genius.
#bingers I highly recommend Megamind. His giant blue head and presentation make him a favorite villain of mine!

I've always loved the foreshadowing in the opening. Victor drawing a beautiful butterfly during the opening music only to release it from it's cage. Emily, now released, turns into a plethora of the same butterfly. Beautiful detail!
The Corpse Bride is the epitome of "he's just not that into you sis" although I still have to watch it every Spooky Season because it's nostalgic to me😭❤️💀💀
#Bingers, I think Rise of the Gaurdians is extremely underrated in my opinion, it was one of my favourites back when I was a kid and it need more recognition. I really want to see you react to it.

--Also would love to see your reaction to ‘Hoodwinked’, if you get the chance. Maybe not the absolute best movie ever made, but a really fun watch, and I think you’d enjoy it. #bingers
It might be just me but I think Victor not ending up with Emily was the right thing… Victor seemed like he felt pressured into marrying her (when he found out Victoria was marrying someone else) and Emily deserved someone who really loved her
I love Emily though shes such a beautiful soul
Not just you. I agree: it WAS the right thing. Emily realized it, that’s why she let him go.
It wasn’t that Victor felt pressured into it- she already said she could never ask him to die for her. It was that he felt pity for all she had been through, and recognized that she was an amazing person who deserved better. So even though he was not in love with her, he still cared about her; and since he now could no longer hope to marry Victoria, because she had just been married to someone else... he figured he’d do it- why not?
@@georgianash6635
Emily truly is a beautiful soul; but it is hurtful how much disrespect and even hate Victoria often gets for Not Being Emily. I think she is just as beautiful, in her own way, only she gets much less recognition for it.
They *_BOTH_* deserve a happy ending.
@@StoryMing i very much agree with you
I cried when I first watched it. I truly hope she finds someone who truly loves her😪
I’ll die on this hill. ANIMATION DOESN’T MEAN IT WAS MADE FOR KIDS. Films like these are made to be a reasonable level of family-friendly, but aren’t aimed solely at children so a lot of the time slightly more grown-up jokes are thrown in that kids won’t get. The “I don’t give a damn” part was a reference to another movie, so they probably got away with it with the I think PG rating the movie already has, primarily because there were fears it would be too scary for younger audiences.
Fate Worse than Death: Barkis, after unwittingly drinking poison, is now one of the dead, which conveniently removes the restriction that the dead cannot harm the living. An angry mob drags him off as he screams. *Made worse in that we never really do find out what they do to him.*
I absolutely love the almost gleeful "New arrival." as they close the door and drag him away.
I've been wondering what it is they could actually do to him.
As a child Tim Burton's animation style and his stories were scary and even overwhelming. I have learned to appreciate it as an adult because from learning different things about Tim Burton as a storyteller and an artist, it tells children who might be a little strange and off-putting that they are not alone. His films, even aimed at children, deal with issues children might be feeling. as someone who was strange and off-putting, albeit in a very different way, and I deeply admire Tim Burton and his craft.
I was literally going to suggest this movie next but you’ve already uploaded it lol. Next pick for me would have to be Monster House. They filmed it by using motion censors and it’s pretty terrifying. Definitely recommend it #Bingers
UGH YES!!! One of my favorite Halloween movies!
YES! That's an excellent one!

Crimson Peak, Sweeney Todd & Sleepy Hollow are all great Halloween movies. All a must-watch! #bingers
I second Sweeney Todd! #bingers
Yeeeeeeees Crimson Peak! Actually all three... though Sweeney Todd is ultimately just uber depressing (and while I love 99.999 percent of Helena Bonham Carter, her voice is not strong enough for musical performance), but in a well done way!
Also Phantom of the Opera and/or Love Never Dies but that can be after Halloween as they both are gothic romance #bingers
I LOVE Sleppy Hollow!
Agreed! All of these are amazing recommendations
This is literally my comfort movie
You have no idea how happy I am right now 😁😁😁
Mr. Bonejangles was sung by Danny Elfman himself. They had so many people audition for the part, but no one was quite right, so Danny finally just went, "Fuck it, I'll do it."
I mean, that’s basically how he ended up singing for Jack too! He was so protective of that character that he more or less said “ITS ME AND ONLY ME, BITCHES” 😂
The ironic part of the arranged marriage thing is that the vow sounds so romantic but there's no romance in an arranged marriage so that's the ironic part.
The songs are written by Danny Elfman and he does a lot of music scores for Tim Burton movies. They are one of the most celebrated Director/Composer duos in the history of cinema.. Pee-Wee's Big Adventure, Beetlejuice, Batman and Batman Returns, Edward Scissorhands , The Nightmare Before Christmas, Sleepy Hollow, Mars Attacks!, Planet of the Apes, Big Fish, Corpse Bride, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Alice in Wonderland Dark Shadows, Frankenweenie, Big Eyes, Miss Peregrine;s Home for Peculiar Children and Dumbo.

I think that movie's more about closure than anything else Emily had to get closure for her life and her death. Victor and Victoria were just along for the ride.

That "Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn." is a reference to one of the first big movies, Gone With The Wind.
If you haven't seen it already, you should watch Cabin in the Woods. It is such a good movie! It's scary but also plays with the conventions of horror/thriller movies in a comedic way! #bingers

This is my favorite movie ever!
Honestly the fact that people even want Emily and Victor to be together irritates me because in my opinion they missed the point of the story. Yes Emily did give Victor up but if you remember her sole purpose her dream after she died was to be set free. Marriage was just a fallacy of a missed out dream when she was alive.
I completely believe that this story follows a lesson for both Victor and Emily. For Emily she learned to let go of her past and her missed out dreams. She learned freedom is something you can give to yourself rather than seek it out in other people.
As for Victor, he learned what true sacrifice is and what it means to love someone unconditionally. He learned the importance of cherishing every moment and it was all thanks to Emily. Victor was giving up what many deem the most valuable his life, and let’s be frank it wasn’t because he loved Emily or in my opinion because Victoria was marrying someone else. It was because he knew Emily would never ask him to sacrifice his life to be with her. And in that moment he saw a humanity within her. A heartbreak. And Victor chose to make the ultimate sacrifice to give Emily what she believed was her dream.
While I believe Victorias marriage to the devil (I refuse to name him) played a part. To me it wasn’t as significant as Victor wanting to make that sacrifice for Emily.
In the end both of them learned valuable lessons. And Emily was able to find peace while Victor was able to find love.
THIS IS SUCH A GOOD MOVIE!!!
Day I cant remember of asking for the Mummy with Brendan Frasier. #bingers

I’m so happy you reacted to this movie!! I absolutely love this movie and have loved it since I was a child. My favorite part has always been when the corpse bride (Emily) turns into blue butterflies at the end, that scene spoke to me as a kid and it still does, very memorable.
DIE DIE WE ALL PASS AWAY 😭😂✊️ this is one of the greatest movies ever made with a soundtrack that SLAPS at every point of the way. Not a single song I don't love, and the dead people are all so fun. Love how the dead are so dynamic in this movie and it's the living people who are dull and grey and feel almost held back by the state of being alive, the dead people are quite literally free from the stiff, boring, uptight society the living are bound by. Clever stuff!
I love the little kid in the scene where the dead of the town have risen. Any other movie would have had that kid screaming. In a Tim Burton movie? "Grandpa?!" *hugs*
Thank you for a great video! This story is so beautiful!
In the spirit of keeping the burton trend, I recommend “Charlie and the chocolate factory” or “Sweeney Todd”, both with Johnny Depp, keep the good work man! #bingers
something I wanna point out real quick that I think is an interesting detail: when Victor "proposes" he puts the ring on her index finger instead of her ring finger. idk why that always make me laugh cause you know....it wasn't the right finger.

#Bingers Practical Magic for spooky season. Sandy Bullock and Nicole Kidman are witchy sisters in a small town. Dark humor, romance, and even... murder?!
Real quick: you know the tradition about it being bad luck for the bride and groom to see each other before the ceremony on their wedding day?
It goes all the way back to arranged marriages like this one, when the norm was the bride and groom literally weren’t allowed to even meet each other before the ceremony.
The beliefs was if they did, they would back out.
