Fun fact: Danny elfman was in charge of everything related to music in the movie( to my knowledge), he wrote the songs, and they could not find a singing voice for jack, so Tim burton asked Danny elfman to provide the singing voice. Your video make me laugh, amazing content 😄
@@TheHalloweenSpirit Been to one at the Hollywood Bowl. Danny even got together with a few members of his old band Oingo Boingo and sang "Dead Man's Party." I was in Heaven.
What blows my mind still about this movie is it is all claymation and practical effects. All clay. No crazy tech. They have a “making of” that is also worth watching just to see how they did all this with clay
In my 27 years of life, I’ve literally never left a RUclips comment but I just had to let you know that I opened the RUclips app, saw this video at the top, and gasped out loud. This is my favorite movie and I’m so excited to see your reaction to this. Thanks for all of your hard work, all the laughs, and (much needed) reminders to hydrate. You’re the best, Billy!
I don't know if you're into music theory at all, but this film actually dabbles in it a little, with every time Jack sings, and when Sally sings. There's what's called the Phrygian stank note that they both hit when they sing. It's basically a note that sounds slightly off from the rest of the notes being sung in a lyric. You can hear it in Jack's lament, and Sally's song. It's used to show their connection, even on the most basic musical level.
Sally and the little witch (the I one "with bars" were both played by Catherine O'Hara, who played the mom in both Beetlejuice and Home Alone. I didn't expect you to enjoy this one, I'm pleasantly surprised. Lots of reactors think kids would find it creepy, but idk that I know of any kids that were creeped out by it.
This has been one of my favorites since I was 7 years old with Kidnap the Sandy Claws being my favorite song. My son (now 7) found it a few years ago on Disney+ and loved it as well.
@Kim_Coleman 2004 maybe it's a generational thing 🤷 Then again, my father started showing us the old black and white monster movies when we were like 5 lol. I wish I remember if my peers at the time saw it and what they thought. I've just never really heard it described as creepy until I watched reactors on here (well, until your comment I mean.)
I loved your reaction to Oogie Boogie turning the table and Jack just casually lying on it, it's probably my favourite moment in the whole film, the music builds it beautifully and the casual, confident posture of Jack just gets me every time! Love it.
4 minutes in and Billy already missed where she untied her arm so it came off lol I love the fact Billy will get so confused so quickly wasnt supposed to drop today but amazing as always!
I literally know this movie word for word. It’s my favorite of all time. Even as a little children. But I also loved time burton, horror, witchcraft and spooky stuff as a kid. 😂😂
I’m not sure if it was Disney but someone approached Tim burton about making another movie but Jack going threw another door besides Christmas and he said no & my opinion best decision 👌
They are called Matryoshka or more commonly known as Russian Nesting Dolls or Russian Tea Dolls. Also, it took them about 3 years to make this film with all its magnificent stop-motion movements. And Tim Burton only produced it, Henry Selick was the director (the brilliant creator of Coraline). Tim Burton just always gets credit for it. Burton did the characters and story I believe but Selick brought it to life. Burton didn't do much on the film because he was busy working on Batman Returns. They basically just attached Tim Burton's name to boost the popularity of the film because they thought it was going to flop. Tim Burton felt like doing a stop-motion film would be a pain to create so Henry Selick did the work with about 100 people over that 3-year period of producing it. Yet Burton is always credited and named for creating this when he only went to the production office a few times during filming.
I always imagined that Jack ignored her as bad as he did because he Did love her already but she was the Dr’s creation and possibly attempted partner. (Kinda hinted at when he began making his new girlfriend with the other half of his brain.) So when Jack noticed the Dr had a new partner you’ll notice his shock and immediately started looking for her and followed her.
I found your channel right around when my mom passed away and you have helped me get through some very hard times. Even when you haven’t dropped anything new, when I’m going through it hard, I know there’s always videos I love to watch because you crack me up. Thank you for being a light during my darkness. Love you Billy!
The music was written AND PERFORMED by Danny Elfman. He is one of the most incredible composers out there and he loved this movie so much that he ended up providing the singing voice for Jack. It's so fun to watch in reunions and stuff him singing it. Also it's not a flop video from you, it was WONDERFUL as a huge fan of this movie to watch you enjoy it for the first time. It's such a good film.
The music and performances for this are amazing but I recommend anyonewho has the chance checks out the Revisited soundtrack. Some of the covers on it beat the originals for me.
my town has a really cool tradition, though its not a christmas tradition. Its called the Zombie Walk, where every year hundreds of people get dressed up to the MAX as zombies and walk throughout the town. Its actually in August, and the story behind it is really fun. This group of friends got together and organized a massive prank for their friends birthday, getting a ton of people to dress up like zombies. Im not sure how, but eventually it became a town tradition!
Billy, I’m glad you enjoyed the movie . It’s one of my faves and best of all you can enjoy it for two holiday seasons. Or if your like me through out the year lol
Even though you didn’t think it was a good commentary, I enjoyed watching your reaction to it and happy to hear you liked it as this is one of my favorite movies. Thank you and Merry Christmas! 😊 🎄
Yesss! I’ve been waiting for Billy to watch this one! The Nightmare Before Christmas is one of my top 3 favorite movies and my niece and I bonded over this movie so it’s very special to me
Fun fact: the music was created before the storyline. Thats why the music hits so hard. Jacks singing voice actor Danny Elfman wrote all the music and helped the team create the central theme. Contrary to popular belief Burton had very little to do with this film. The stop motion is based on his art. But the work, music and pretty much entire vision was done by the team who unfortunately didnt get deserved credit due to Burtons name being in the beginning.
My first stop motion movie. I remember seeing the trailer as a little kid and I was just fascinated. The animation was so creepy but it was something new and I thought it looked cool so I begged my mom to see it. The shrunken head got me too! 😂
I literally just got finished watching two reactions of this classic movie that was uploaded today. Lol. I don't mind watching a third. Anyway, Oogie Boogie is my favorite character, and This is Halloween is my go-to Halloween anthem.
I really love this movie, but I'm more happy to see you just thoroughly enjoy a movie! My favourite commentaries are always the ones where the commentator's just having a really good time watching, the vibe just seeps through every aspect of the video ♥ I hope you watch more movies you'll personally like going forwards!
Danny Elfman basically made this film with his soundtrack and voicing jack’s vocals. Films like these are always enjoyable cause the plot is secondary to just the vibes and it’s great
One of the best Tim Burton movies of all time, both good to watch for Halloween & Christmas, the singing voice of Jack Skeleton is Danny Elfman who is one of the most famous music score composers of this era and worked with Burton on most of his future films, Helena Bohnam Carter is the voice & singing voice for Sally. “What’s This” is my favourite song from this movie.
My daughter performed yesters in honors choir, for a tree lighting. My grandmas block are the psychopaths that collaborate with each other on decorations. Like theyll have Santa's sleigh going back and forth between light post, and so many lights you have to bord up the windows just to sleep. Its so bright, but beautiful!
The reason it wasnt under Disney's name until it became more popular in the early 2000s is for two reasons. When Tim Burton, the writer and creator (he didnt direct bc he was directing a Batman movie at the time), pitched the idea to Disney since he had been an animator for them prior, Disney didnt think it was a good fit for their normal kind of movies and cartoons which mainly centered around happier themes, princesses, and stuff like that. Eventually, Disney did take up the project in the late 80s to approve it being filmed but they put it under their umbrella company Touchstone. If you watch the original VHS tape, you'll see the Touchstone intro and even on the original posters and stuff like I have, you can see it say Touchstone instead of Disney. So in 1993, it was released under Touchstone, not Disney but Disney ownnnns Touchstone so it was still an extension of Disney in technical terms. When it first gained a lot of popularity around its 10th anniversary in 2003, Disney realized just how big of a fan base the movie had. Under the Disney name came the rerelease in 2007 of the 3D version in theaters for the 15th anniversary of the movie. There were releases of dvds/blurays/special editions under the Disney name ever since including the release on Disney+, special guest bands and artists doing songs from the movie for 2 separate cd releases. In 2023, the movie will be celebrating 30 years since its release! Actually recently, a local bar had a Nightmare Before Christmas Trivia night that I happen to win the first prize for lol I've been a fan of the movie since the initial release.
The composer is Danny Elfman also famously known for thr Simpsons Theme song. Danny Elfman is actually the singing voice of Jack Skellington but his speaking voice is someone else. Another fun fact, Danny Elfman also does other singings voices in the movie and also Sally's voice and singing voice are done by Catherine O'Hara who's best known for being the mother in the Home Alone movies and she also does multiple voices in the movies.
I live near Bethlehem, PA- the city everyone sings and talks about during Christmas. Its a big deal here lol I also live near the city that hosts the second largest St Patricks Day Parade in the US every year which is Scranton, PA.
No way, this movie review was no flop! I had never noticed the clever equation on the board and the funny commentary made rewatching the movie even better! Very fun!
Very happy to see you reacting to one of my favorite movies. And I’m so very glad to see you enjoying it and getting genuinely invested in the movie. It’s a great story with great music!! 🥰🖤🎄🎃✨
21:03 its actually not an animation but Stop motion/Claymotion. -The characters were physical sculptures that were repositioned for every single shot until they created a coherent sequence. It took the creators 3 years to make the movie.
This movie came out when I was 2 years old, and it was the first movie my parents took me to see in theaters. I was absolutely obsessed. My mom even painted a life sized Jack on my bedroom wall. So to answer your question, no not all kids are afraid of this stuff 😅
believe it or not, this is one of my favorite commentaries you’ve done. I could actually see you enjoying yourself and even though there’s a lot of music, you did a great job with the editing. as for this movie being for kids: I was 10 when this movie came out and it didn’t scare me one bit. I think it just depends on the kid and their sensibilities. some kids might find it a tad scary but others might just find it spooky but fun (like me!). anyway, happy holidays Billy! ❤️
Yes, I've used an actual nutcracker set. It included the cracker (Swedish-style, not shaped like a person) and a wooden, square "bowl". Being 60%-ish Swedish, we had plenty of person-nutcrackers around the house for decoration year-round. When my grandmother (Mor Mor) had her store, nutcrackers were always for sale. I miss the store a lot.
My baby brother had the best reaction! I wish I recorded it but it was a surprise. I threw it on and he just sat there staring wide eyed at the screen then smiled. Baby bro found his two new heroes. Jack and Sally!
My favorite Disney movie! Glad you liked it, Billiam. Just because a lot of people don't know Henry Selick, the guy behind Caroline, had a huge part to do with this movie
9:26 Jack's description is done that way to make Santa sound scary, because the citizens weren't understanding the purity of Christmas and he wanted to get them on board "Well, might a well give them what they want" is the line said just before he starts describing Santa
I loved this movie since I was a little children lol It didn't scare me but I've loved horror my whole life. Fun facts Danny elfman had to present the music as quickly as possible for the disney team and him and the team presented them with "what's this" because it's the jollier song and they wanted disney to think it was all going to be like that. xD
I didn't mind you getting absorbed in the movie. It's a good one, and I liked seeing your genuine enjoyment of it! I never thought of it as a midlife crisis movie but I actually think that is spot-on. Nice job!
Really hope you're gonna watch Wendell and Wild at some point, it's the same director as Coraline and Nightmare Before Christmas, and Jordan Peele produced it. It's a weird movie but it has a lot of love in it, and the soundtrack slaps hard.
so hilarious bro. This was a classic, glad to see you enthralled by it Another excellent Tim Burton movie that rocked my VCR in the 90's was Batman Returns. Can you react to that?
I had to pause less than 3 minutes in to finish Billy saying "for the record, that's exactly what my head looks like under this hat" or something to that effect lmao
All Jack and them know is Halloween. He doesn't have the Christmas spirit. His gifts were all scary and creepy because, well, he's the Pumpkin King 🎃 he wasn't necessarily TRYING to be scary. He just IS 😂😂
Danny Elfman wrote all the music and sang for Jack. He writes nearly all the music for any Tim Burton project. He is/was aldo the front man for 'Oingo Boingo' which is an 80s-90s rock band with such memorable hits as 'Weird Science' and 'Dead Man's Party'
I watched this as a children, lol. And I fell in love with it! I think for younger kids, it might even help them not be afraid of things they might've feared otherwise. Seeing these scary beings as just people living their lives can be helpful. Maybe that's just me tho, lol. Danny Elfman did the music for this and he provided Jack's singing voice. The music is, for me, what makes this movie so special. And I'm the same as you. Christmas is now my second favorite holiday after Halloween.
Every time I click on Billy’s videos it lifts my spirits. Him asking those simple questions, and even him talking about tough times.. genuinely helps the mood out He a true MVP
So happy u liked this movie, it's been one of my faves since it came out when I was a little children lol it was the first influence into how I dress and my love for darker things. Also those dolls are Russian nesting dolls
My Family don’t live in a very Christmassy village but we do live in a village that has an annual 1940s weekend every June/July. All the adults dress up, run stalls, do re-enactments. All the shops and pubs get involved. There’s a parade
This is one of my favorite holiday movies! Brilliant story, brilliant characters, brilliant songs! All of it is so good. I bought a reversible Jack Skellington beanie from Disneyland years ago and I wear it every winter. Mad respect to Henry Sellick, who directed the movie. He never gets enough credit.
Thanks Billy it’s been an interesting year but watching and listening to your videos definitely helps. One of my favorite reactors on here thanks for what you do. Also love this movie. 💕 Also my top holiday is definitely Halloween always has been but Christmas is my second.
It's my all time favorite movie since I was little. From October 1st to January 1st, I watch it with my kids and play the soundtrack in my car. Even trying to get a full Sleeve.
My kids love The Nightmare Before Christmas! I have a video of my son at about a year old pulling himself up to standing using our TV stand as support and he starts bouncing to the song. I love that video so much.
The mayor says, "Morning gents!" Like.. gentlemen. And the nesting dolls are called Matryoshka dolls. So glad you liked this! One of my favorites! Your moving camera in the intro and outro was kind of dizzying though...
I love this movie, have to watch it every year around Christmas. Your commentary was just fine, your face shows so much emotions. Have a nice Christmas Season, I'll be working this year helping other people get well. Also Happy New Year!
This is my favorite movie and I loved watching it when I was a young kid. I was actually had a big smile for all of your reaction, so no worries. Glad you finally got to see this awesome movie.
If you haven’t been to Disneyland during Christmas, you should! From November-January the park redecorates the Haunted Mansion ride to The Nightmare Before Christmas theme every year! It’s super cute!
They recently got all the vocal artists together to sing this in concert! Oogie Boogie is AMAZING. (And I never saw anything by Tim Burton in childhood. In childhood Disney's Cinderella terrified me because the cat was called Lucifer. 😆)
My favorite holiday is Christmas. I love giving presents to people I care about. But I must admit I suck at wrapping presents. Actually usually cop out and just do gift bags for people. I am so glad you enjoyed this movie. It is one of my favorites.
One of my favorite movies. :) Sally and one of the troublemaker children Shock is voiced and sung by Catherine O'Hara, the Mom in Schitt's Creek, Home Alone, and another Tim Burton movie -- Beetlejuice, just to name a few. :)

I remember one year I was both jack AND sally at the same time. Proudest moment
This one is the GOAT!!! Got this movie for Christmas one year and watch it literally every Halloween and Christmas! Great reaction Billy! 🌲🎃
Me and my one yr old watch you all the time and he always waves at you 😂 we both love halloween !! tim bruton always has bangers !
FIRST TIME!?!?
Fr tho this movie is my WHOLE CHILDHOOD THO-
I tear up every time Billy says that I matter and he loves me😭 Amazing start to the video, I need to hear those words
I am so happy that you did a review to this one! This movie holds a special place in my heart
This was a classic, glad to see you enthralled by it
Another excellent Tim Burton movie that rocked my VCR in the 90's was Batman Returns.
One of my absolute favorites. I'm obsessed. We decorated our son's nursery in N.B.C decor, and I watched it while in labor lol
I love the encouragement and kind words at the beginning of all your videos. it’s so appreciated. thank you for being you, Billy. 💜
You are so welcome
2:12 I watched the nightmare before Christmas as a kid
Every time I click on Billy’s videos it lifts my spirits. Him asking those simple questions, and even him talking about tough times.. genuinely helps the mood out
He a true MVP
❤️❤️love this movie, so glad you liked it 🤩. Jack's singing voice, Danny Elfman, was in a great 80's band, Oingo Boingo. Love your vids man!! ❤️❤️
So happy u liked this movie, it's been one of my faves since it came out when I was a little children lol it was the first influence into how I dress and my love for darker things. Also those dolls are Russian nesting dolls
Billy callin Sally a chicken head was something I never knew would bring me such joy 😂
Happy holidays yall 💕🎁🎄
I remember watching this movies in theaters back in 1993 when I was just five. Been one of my favorite movies since.
Got my tonsils removed yesterday at the age of 29
This sucks ass, but you never fail to make me laugh and smile
My Family don’t live in a very Christmassy village but we do live in a village that has an annual 1940s weekend every June/July. All the adults dress up, run stalls, do re-enactments. All the shops and pubs get involved. There’s a parade
This is one of my favorite holiday movies! Brilliant story, brilliant characters, brilliant songs! All of it is so good. I bought a reversible Jack Skellington beanie from Disneyland years ago and I wear it every winter. Mad respect to Henry Sellick, who directed the movie. He never gets enough credit.
i remember being obsessed with this movie as a child bit being actully terrified by E.T. I always thought that it had to be the opposite way
So thrilled that you loved it so much! To me that makes this video all the more wonderful. Hope you have a Merry Christmas Billy!
Danny Elfman, who wrote all of the songs for this movie, is also the singing voice of Jack!
Fun Fact: Henry Selick was actually the director, because Tim Burton was busy working on Batman Returns but ended up taking all the credit
you describing this movie as jack going through a midlife crisis is giving me so much serotonin lol
Honestly, it's great to see you enjoy a movie just cause it's good.
"Damn, so just so he ugly he gotta be the animal," Was enough laughs for me. 🤣
Danny Elfman the man of music of all Tim Burton films I've watched. And when i saw his name popped up for Wednesday I was activily hyped.
If you’re interested in more stop motion animation - Kubo and the Two Strings is both heartwarming and visually stunning too!
5:15 He's a politician, of course he's two-faced.
I really loved your commentary on this one. This is one of my favorite movies, and watching how muched you enjoyed/appreciated it was awesome! :)
Glad you enjoyed it!❤
If you haven’t been to Disneyland during Christmas, you should!
Holy moly, 1993? I was still a teenager when I first saw this!!
My favorite holiday is Christmas. I love giving presents to people I care about. But I must admit I suck at wrapping presents. Actually usually cop out and just do gift bags for people. I am so glad you enjoyed this movie. It is one of my favorites.
13:45 those are called Matryoshka dolls (also known as stacking dolls, nesting dolls, Russian tea dolls, or Russian dolls)
I love how it is a Halloween movie and a chrismas movie to!
One of my favorite movies. :) Sally and one of the troublemaker children Shock is voiced and sung by Catherine O'Hara, the Mom in Schitt's Creek, Home Alone, and another Tim Burton movie -- Beetlejuice, just to name a few. :)
I love all you videos billy!! keep up the great work!
i also recommend for you to watch flipped (2010), because it is such a wholesome movie!
Tim Burton drew, wrote and produced the film. Henry Selick of "Coraline" fame was the actual director.
