I saw this movie back when it came out in theaters. My sister really enjoyed it and it is also incredible how the living world is dull in color while the dead has ironically so much life in vibrant coloring.
Makes sense when you think about it. There's no worries when you're dead, vs the living where life is not always happy...especially during the victorian era.
" I know that I am dead, yet it seen that I still have some tears to shed." Longing for true love even though you are dead, that so tragic and beautiful! 😢😢😢😭😭😭
Emily just love the idea of being loved, she deserves so much better. Wish we could see what she looks like when she's alive Notice at the beginning when Victor set the butterfly free foreshadowing that Emily is finally free
That's another important point often ignored in the film. Usually, the popular take from the film is that Victor and Emily should've gone through with the marriage because it would've benefitted both of them, but the movie is not about getting what you want. It's about earning what you NEED. In the beginning, all three of the leads want certain things that they have to learn to move past in order to be truly happy. Victor wants to avoid uncomfortable situations at all costs. Victoria wants to please everyone and fit in with their expectations. Emily wants to be married no matter who it even is so that it will wipe away all her trauma to the point that she can't read the room that Victor is clearly uncomfortable with the situation. And yet, it's these uncomfortable circumstances that force all three of them to evolve beyond what they thought they depended on. Victor learns to directly confront his anxieities and insecurities no matter how impossible they seem. Victoria learns to fight for what she values in life no matter who tells her she's not worthy of it. And finally, Emily learns to acknowledge the injustice that was visited upon her the night she was killed and make the choice to end the imbalance it has caused by confronting her murderer and stopping him from causing anymore destruction. It's at this moment that all three can truly be themselves again because they've regained what they thought they had lost when, in reality, it was always within them. They just had to be brave enough to face the dragons that were keeping it.
33:59 Since you guys clearly didn't listen to the first song, which explained Emily's backstory, allow me. "Lord Barkis" is a gold-digging black widower. And Emily came from a wealthy family. So he courted Emily into falling in love with him, despite her father seeing right through him and forbidding her from being with him. The "Lord" talked Emily into eloping with him while having her bring a big satchel full of her family's most valuable jewelry and all the gold she could fit and instructing her to meet him by the old oak tree in the woods, where he essentially killed her, took her money and jewels and bailed. And now he planned to do the same with Victoria.
I always liked the color contrast between the living and the dead. In the former everything is a drabby gray and everyone looks miserable whereas in the latter is very colorful and lively
Fun fact: Tim Burton didn't make or have anything to do with Coraline. Coraline was directed by Henry Selick who also did direct Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas. However, the ideas for TBTNBC were created by Tim Burton, but the ideas for Coraline were completely original not made by Tim Burton.
35:24 If you pay attention to the music you can tell how they’ve replaced dialogue and are actually speaking through the piano. Victor’s piece is lighthearted and upbeat but still mimics Emily’s low scale of sorrow, trying his best to show he wants to make it up to her and he understands how she feels. But just as Emily tries to end the song he interjects and makes something completely new, hopeful but still morbid and practically waiting for Emily to join in for the duet. A beautiful way to show how people can bond over art and passion, even platonically
Fun fact the voice lines for this movie were done at the same time the filming for charlie snd the chocolate factory was being done so both Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter who were in both mivies had very long recording days where they both would start with filming for Charlie and the chocolate factory and then record their lines for this hence why their voices are very quiet and tired at times
absolutely love this movie and im so glad you guys are doing so many Tim Burton movies too! (I would be down to see Frankenweenie btw) Also is it just me of did the Nightmare Before Christmas reaction get marked as private after it was released? Was it posted by mistake or something? I remember seeing it a few days ago but couldnt watch it.
The act of killing one's spouse for greedy gain is quite despicable. Both men and women are capable of doing such a horrific act. When a woman does it, she is a black widow. When a man does it...he's a Bluebeard.
Aw boy, here we go again. This series caused that iconic clip of Pewdiepie crying, so you just KNOW Alicia will be sitting in a puddle of tears by the end.
THANK YOU GUYS SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH! This is a very underrappreciated classic and a perfect love letter to introverts everywhere. The thing I've always loved about Tim Burton movies so much is how well he's able to understand how all us inrtoverts see and feel about our world. Also, if there was a fictional character that best represents me, it's totally Victoria. What I love about her is that she's a quiet, humble female character who is still just as passionate and creative as Victor and Emily. A lot of girls like us often feel put down just because we're not as forceful or assertive as others, but we feel just as much as anyone else, and I do believe we have just as much value even if it's not always tangible.
An important point often ignored in the film that I hope you guys watching it for the first time is the theme of self-growth. (I apologize for not knowing names) But the reaction from the dude in the red, when the other dude was talking about having sex with the corpse and having the worm pop out was hilarious 😂😂😂
Back then on Adult Swim, There was an episode of Futurama when Fry ate the Egg Sandwich at a rest stop and gained intellect from the worms as he confronts a cat caller trying to holla at Leela. During commercial break, they presented the full trailer of Corpse Bride and i got super excited. 😆
Fun Fact: despite not being seen again for the rest of the movie after the dead came to the world of the living, Victoria’s parents were present during her and Victor’s wedding the day after the events of the film and it was confirmed that after the wedding they were both thrown in jail by their daughter for attempting to sell her off to a fake rich man who was more than likely going to kill her
I loooved Frankenweenie as a kid, that would be nice to see too 🙃 i was wondering too, will you guys try to reedit Nightmare before Christmas? Would be nice but i get it if not. Anyways this was an other banger guys, im loving these spooky movies lately 😁
45:10 is my favorite part of the movie. What I wouldn't give just see my Late Dad again. He's been (I dont like saying dead) passed for 15+ years. I was 9 I am now 27. I miss you Dad 👨🏻
niceee one of my favourites edit: i think you two would like frankenweeny as well, go for it ! though my opinion is pretty biased- i literally like anything from tim burton lol

Yeah the living world is very depressing, yet the land of the dead is way more lively.
Makes sense when you think about it. There's no worries when you're dead, vs the living where life is not always happy...especially during the victorian era.
@@Thebes17 Not to mention the early to mid 20th century.
Fun fact: Blue roses symbolize mysterious and unrequited love
“Keep it down, we’re in a church.” Funniest line in the movie.
Imo, the best joke besides "why go up there, when people die to get down here" line
😂😂😂😂😂😂
I agree and the delivery of that line followed by the priests jaw drop was just perfectly executed
" I know that I am dead, yet it seen that I still have some tears to shed." Longing for true love even though you are dead, that so tragic and beautiful! 😢😢😢😭😭😭

The Corpse Bride has a lot of great songs, and Emily really does have a heartbreaking backstory.

Shoutout to Johnny depp who voices victor, jack sparrow and all the best characters oh and he also voices jkl from SpongeBob.
