The fact that Edward and Winona didn’t see each other ever again was heartbreaking, I know she wanted him to remember her how she was when young but I don’t think Edward would’ve cared no matter her age or how she looked, even if their relationship didn’t continue romantically they could’ve been friends and Edward could’ve had company
Pretty nice that Depp worked with 2 legendary icons of the horror genre. Price - Edward Scissorhands , Christopher Lee - Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
Oh almost forgot he also worked with horror legends Jonathan Frid, Kathryn Lee Scott, Lara Parker, and David Selby all from the original 1960s Dark Shadows horror soap opera. In the 2012 movie remake of Dark Shadows in which Depp played Barnabas Collins.
Kim: why did you do it Edward: because you asked me to. This BREAKS me everytime. Edward is the definition of pure, misunderstood innocence. This movie is a really chilling commentary on acceptance and prejudice in suburbia.
Big Fish is peak Tim Burton, beautiful and weird. And Sleepy Hollow and Sweeney Todd are both really fun, as long as your idea of fun includes spouts, waves, and bursts of fake blood.
I saw this when it came out. I was a moody teenager and I identified hard with Edward. An artistic out cast who despite trying to be nice, everyone ended up shunning. Danny Elfman's hauntingly sad sound track still tugs at my tear ducts to this day. I had thr sound track on cassette and anytime I was feeling dejected or heartbroken, I would play this sound track and sob my depression away. I know, seems counter productive, but it worked. So, the movie holds a special place for me.
The mansion on top of “Mount Doom” is a visual representation for CalArts, the real life art school where Burton studied animation, which overlooks the suburb of Valencia, CA on top of a big hill. (I went there too!) A lot of Burton’s early career movies are about outsiders who don’t quite fit into society as that’s how he felt as a young weirdo artist. Ed Wood, based off of the life of the 50s schlock horror director, is his masterpiece IMO; I would DIE to see your reaction!
This is my favorite movie of all time. I absolutely love the way edward is portrayed, broken, sweet, shy, innocent. When Kim finally says I love you at the end, it broke me because it's like he was longing to hear those words.
"Kind of a Christmas movie too" Yeah this movie, The Nightmare Before Christmas and Batman Returns are all Christmas movies really. They get called the X-Mas trilogy by some fans. Also idk if I'm reading too much into it but the black cop being one of the more understanding characters towards the outsider who the white suburban townies find terrifying and mesmerizing in equal measure really makes me feel very complicated emotions. I don't know if it was intentional but you can almost see it as a commentary on race in American suburbia.
I'd definitely agree it's a commentary on Race and acceptance in suburbia. That cop definitely exemplifies that, especially when he is awkwardly the only black person we see in this whole town. Edward eventually becomes at outcast for being "dangerous and different". It's very unsettling on many levels when you really look at it. Sadly...many don't WANT to see that in this movie. But it's there. If it was intentional, it just shows how intelligent Burton is.
That scene with everyone feeding Depp had to be re-shot multiple times. He became physically ill from the volume of food he ate. The entire town where the movie was shot also had what could only be described as biblical levels of bugs on many days and many scenes were canceled due to the bugs. If you pay attention to cloud cover in the sky, you can kind of piece together which scenes were shot across different days.
One of my favorite Tim Burton movies, but man Danny Elfmans score in this movie is just music to my ears. Please do reactions to Back To The Future, Groundhog Day and Ed Wood. Great reaction Alanda and take care and stay safe 👍.
I have BTTF on my list but this vid is the first time I’ve heard of Ed Wood. I’ll check it out. Groundhog Day is a familiar title but I know nothing about it so I’ll try and find it too
@@AlandaParker Ooh, bonus round: after you watch Groundhog Day, it would be a little outside your current wheelhouse but the Groundhog Day musical can be found on RUclips and is a fantastic and unique presentation of the story (music and lyrics by Aussie genius Tim Minchin).
The set design and costumes are EVERYTHING in this film! Also you have amazing comments about this movie! I really like how much you showed how the neighborhood turned on him even when he tried to fit in. That he was such a young soul who did not want the back door salon action! That Neighborhood was thirsty after that teen. I also like how it does not usually snow in the town so she knows he is around. She shouldn't be alone. That Nerd from the Breakfast Club grew up to be an Azz in this movie. Mt.Doom ! hahaha I like how the brother in uniform at the end let Edward free! Made those fake shots at the end so neighborhood watch from conservative hell can leave Edward alone.
@@chance7312 So Paul Reubens, the actor who plays Pee-Wee, was arrested for masturbating in a porno theater in 1991. Is that a little bit gross? Sure. But if the internet had existed back then, he likely would have been doing that in the privacy of his own home. And it's not like he molested any children or raped anyone. He didn't commit any heinous crimes on the level of a Kevin Spacey, or Harvey Weinstein, or Louis C.K. I definitely think it's something that was blown out of proportion, especially in a time when we know that many of the more powerful people in Hollywood were definitely committing actual horrific sex crimes and getting away with it regularly. So I think people need to chill out about this one.
This is SUCH a quintessential film for those of us who grew up in the 80s. Rewatching it with your commentary is a JOY. Tim Burton really was a genius, until he wasn't. This and Ed Wood are his best. He should never have switched to green screen. His recent films are soulless. Everything about this film is perfect.
GASP YES you did one of my fave! My other favorites from Burton: Big Fish, Sleepy Hollow, Frankenweenie, and Batman Returns! Never lose that energy Alanda, wishing you a great year! 😬
So glad you watched this one! It truly is a unique classic, and I always loved the weirdness of the movie, but somehow I still feel like it's a bit underrated! I love how your reactions to the characters and some sentimental scenes really reminded me of how close to his heart this movie was for Tim Burton. He literally was Edward Scissors hands growing up in a cookie cutter, faux-paradise suburb. I think he got a much happier ending, though! P.S. this movie is now officially the most depressing feature on Disney+ of all places. 😆
Still an all time classic. Such a cool fairytale of a movie. Alanda...Please Please watch Tim Burtons "SLEEPY HOLLOW" next, if you haven't already seen it. It's also got Johnny Depp in one of my favorite roles of his. It also has Christina Ricci and a slew of other great actors and such a good story version of the Ichabod Crane of Sleepy Hollow fairy tale yet done with a really creepy feel. SO GOOD!
I liked the video within the first five minutes. GREAT commentary. So funny! It brings me joy watching people experience my favourite movie for the first time.
loved the video, Alanda x for future ones, I’d recommend/suggest: • the lost boys (campy fun 80s vampire movie) • death becomes her (DEFINITION OF CAMPY FUN in a 90s comedy movie with Meryl Streep, Goldie Hawn and Bruce Willis, immortal rich women and Isabella Rossellini as an enchantress) • promising young woman (hard to explain the plot without spoiling, in fact the trailer spoils a lot as well, but basically it’s a mixture of a thriller, dark-comedy and drama and follows a young woman’s aftermath from a traumatic event of the past and the revenge she seeks from it but also has romcom moments) • the slumber party massacre (the title explains the whole movie tbh, it’s a fun, campy, cheesy 80s horror classic) • thelma and louise (follows 2 women who decide to ditch their usual lives for a while and go on a road-trip but something ends up throwing their trip in a completely different direction)
Love love love love this movie. The ending always makes me cry no matter how many times I've seen it. You're reaction to it was wonderful. Honestly, whenever it snows, I dance in it and try to mimick her dancing. Lol. 😅😅😅😅 Thank you thank you thank you for reviewing this wonderful movie. ☺️☺️☺️☺️
Alan Arkin and Dianne Wiest are so great in this. I love Arkin's obliviousness and Wiest's endless optimism. For a great (albeit small) Alan Arkin role - So I Married An Axe Murderer.
Found you through ZZAVID! And I have to say you have brought me SO MUCH JOY! Between you and ZZAVID my holiday break has been so much brighter despite having been in the hospital. I hope you had a wonderful Holiday and a Happy New Year! ❤🙂❤
In the comments for ZZAVID's recent reaction ('Scream 3'), I mentioned that my New Year's wish is for he and Alanda to do a collaboration reaction video together. Also, Alanda - he wants to see 'Scream 5' with you. You two would be such terrors at the movie theatre!
Ahhh, i'm so surprised you've never seen this! I feel like we have the exact same tastes in movies and i'm so glad you liked this. Danny Elfmans score is so beautiful and the story told always brings me to tears. Such a fabulous viewing.
Fantastic video! Needed a good cry today 😂 This movie always makes me sob and is my second favourite Tim Burton movie after Batman Returns. Vincent Price is amazing as Edward's father the inventor in this, giving his last ever theatrically released, on-screen performance in the role. Happy New Year from a new fan!
Heeeey Alanda Parker. I never watched the entire Edward Scissorhands movie, and since you are my number one reviewer this was a treat. Once again, your take had me laughing out loud. Thanks for making my day!!!!
I adore this movie. It’s such a great morality play and the whole thing initiates with “where does snow come from?” I try to watch it at least one a year at the first snowfall of the season.
I’m honestly tickled pink with this reaction. I’ve been binging you for the last few days and I feel so special picking up your references from the other movies you’ve reacted to 😂😭❤️
I love this movie, but it makes me tear up at the end every time. Fantastic review like usual 😊. Your wit is as sharp as Edward's hands! "Sing like the Harlem Boys Choir" LOL
Also, Alanda, right after you mentioned that middle aged woman with nothing to do were the most dangerous; at that moment. I realized one of the ladies(the larger one) is the lady from 'Krampus'. Also great job noticing that the kid was also Nick in honey I shrunk the kids.
Absolute beauty of a film. Just about flawless, from start to finish...and honestly, I feel like my favourite character in this is the dad. He's just looking after everybody, quietly and with total acceptance, in every way he can, and folds Edward into his family basically instantly. That's a man you could tell anything to, and whatever else he did, he'd be looking for a way to help you fix what was wrong.
You need to watch Big Fish. Edward Scissorhands and Big Fish are what I would categorize as his masterpieces and although I tear up at the end of Big Fish they are happy tears as he nails the landing of that movie.
This was a good film. Just watched it for the first time last week. I am glad that Edward survived. Usually in a film like this, the Edward always dies.
Another great reaction. I hope you had a good Christmas, New Year’s, etc. I haven’t seen this in so long, I forgot how psychopathic the boyfriend was. Johnny Depp is brilliant, and, like others here, I cried, even during the reaction. It’s so beautiful. I was at my book club today and cried over a Neil Gaiman book we read. This movie is similar in how beautiful it is and how sadness underlies so much. I look forward to the next reaction.
This was a wonderful surprise! Edward Scissorhands is one of my all time favorites it was so fun to see your reaction. It is sad at times but also beautiful and so aesthetically pleasing. It's always a great time watching your reactions ❤ Happy New Year Alanda!!
Peg was such a sweetheart. Even the town was pretty wholesome, until things went sideways. I don't understand why Edward had to stay up there by himself, though... They should've smuggled him back and had him live at the house. He was their family.
I love this movie so much. It's so poignant, and Johnny Depp gives and incredible performance as Edward. For a kind of similar vibe to Burton as far as dark and gritty/moody, my movie suggestion is The Crow from 1994 starring Brandon Lee. It's about a man who is brought back from death to avenge his and his fiance's murders. It also has three sequels (The Crow: City of Angels, The Crow: Salvation, and The Crow: Wicked Prayer); the first two are pretty good, but the third toes the line of "so bad it's funny," lol.
You are such a gem. Love your reactions. Whenever I wake up on Sunday I know I can check RUclips and see you have dropped. So comforting 😍 thank you for you hard work and Happy New Year! 🎆
Glad you got to this classic! An absolute masterpiece imo. Esp the Tim Burton/Danny Elfman collaboration. The score to this is perfection (esp the ice scene) and to know he did the Batman score just before it and The Simpsons theme is just crazy! Brilliant reaction as always and Happy Holidays! x
I love that you covered this film. Perhaps my favourite Tim Burton film is Batman Returns. I don't know if you're interested in watching both Tim Burton Batman films, but I'd surely watch your reactions if you chose them. Thanks for another fantastic video, Alanda.
This was Vincent Price's last movie. His health was failing and he was suffering from Parkinson's disease which resulted in many of his planned scenes being scrapped. Price is an absolute legend and started off as a leading man and later transitioned to horror roles. Watch Sleepy Hollow next if you haven't. It features a number of Hammer Horror actors including Christopher Lee (Dracula). You'll also see Ian McDiarmid (Palpatine in Star Wars) in a role. Christina Ricci is also in the movie too.
I always get goosebumps when Edward sees the pictures of Kim for the first time. Such a tragic but sweet movie. I’ve always had a thing for the bad guy in this movie 😂 crazy that he’s the geek in The Breakfast Club 😂
@@AnaFox it honestly took me watching both movies as a kid for years and I had no clue either, one day it just clicked that it was the same person, I was mind blown 😂
Oh Alanda! I screamed with joy when i saw your video was available. I have been laughing the entire time, I LOVE your commentary. Hope you had a great Christmas break. Thanks for making the beginning of 2022 so full of joy.
Thanks for the little throwback when you sang a bit of "Little Boxes", when I was a kid, I used to sing ONLY the first verse over and over in the back seat of the car laughing my ass off because everyone was so annoyed. XD
No way?! I juuust suggested this movie, I’m sure you already had it planned but yay! I just watched this movie for the first time a few months ago and it kind of broke me a little. The music, and it’s so sad!
Lol! First off you’re adorable. Second, I feel you girl with all the emotions. This was like my favorite movie when I was a little girl and started my obsession with Tim Burton films and love for Johnny Depp. It’s fantastic and now I gotta go watch it!
You have such a great personality! Perfect for commentary! I went from watching your reactions of things I have seen to watching movies like this that I haven’t seen (since I was a kid) with you for the first time!
Your reactions really make my day! I'd love to see your reaction to Interview With The Vampire. It's an amazing 90s vampire movie, and I know you'll have a blast watching it.
Other Dianne Wiest films: Hannah & Her Sisters (1st Oscar win), Bullets Over Broadway (2nd Oscar win), Parenthood (with Steve Martin), The Associate (with Whoopi Goldberg), The Birdcage (with Robin Williams), Let Them All Talk (with Meryl Streep; HBOMax), I Care A Lot (Netflix).
For your future horror vids, I recommend The Faculty by Kevin Williamson. It's a more light-type horror like his other movies Scream and IKWYDLS. Also, Sinister is another really good one that isn't too gory but is definitely up your alley. 😊

Such a beautiful film. One of my favorites from tim burton
My mom showed me this movie and I can’t stop watching it. It will always have a special place to my heart
21:36 “look at the people from whoville”🤣🎄I love your energy
When Peg brings Edward home in the car you see a noy jump onto a slip n slide water tarp. That boy is Nick Carter from the Backstreet boys.
I’ll def check these out!
"He didn't even get a dog or anything." LOLZ
This is literally my favorite movie ever. I love, LOVE this movie. Makes me cry at the end every time.
So glad you're back! You were one of my favorite RUclips discoveries of 2021 and I'm so excited that you started the new year off strong. 😁
I always cry at this movie. One of my favorite movies
Purple face Edward is the exact reason why I will never let anyone color match my Dracula complexion face.
I always get goosebumps when Edward sees the pictures of Kim for the first time. Such a tragic but sweet movie. I’ve always had a thing for the bad guy in this movie 😂 crazy that he’s the geek in The Breakfast Club 😂
Omg, he is! I never noticed that! Damn!
@@AnaFox it honestly took me watching both movies as a kid for years and I had no clue either, one day it just clicked that it was the same person, I was mind blown 😂
"or he just didn't want to do paperwork." lmfao
Oh Alanda! I screamed with joy when i saw your video was available. I have been laughing the entire time, I LOVE your commentary. Hope you had a great Christmas break. Thanks for making the beginning of 2022 so full of joy.
The ending always gets me… sometimes you can still catch me dancing in it 🥺🥺🥺👍🏽👍🏽❤️
Thanks for the little throwback when you sang a bit of "Little Boxes", when I was a kid, I used to sing ONLY the first verse over and over in the back seat of the car laughing my ass off because everyone was so annoyed. XD
No way?! I juuust suggested this movie, I’m sure you already had it planned but yay!
I just watched this movie for the first time a few months ago and it kind of broke me a little. The music, and it’s so sad!
Never seen your videos before, but this reaction had me dying 😂 definitely eager to see the rest of your stuff now!
Fun fact: Anthony Michael Hall, the actor of Jim, also plays the nerd from "Breakfast Club".
and in Weird Science
It took me so darn long to realize that.
Lol! First off you’re adorable. Second, I feel you girl with all the emotions. This was like my favorite movie when I was a little girl and started my obsession with Tim Burton films and love for Johnny Depp. It’s fantastic and now I gotta go watch it!
“That was a really big mouth full of pink mush” 😂😂
Ed Wood is my all time favorite Burton film 🎥
you are the funniest most insightful reactor I'm subscribed to! Thank you!
You have such a great personality! Perfect for commentary!
I went from watching your reactions of things I have seen to watching movies like this that I haven’t seen (since I was a kid) with you for the first time!
I think of this movie as a fairy tale, I love how gentle the music, characters and dialogues are.
Wow, haven’t seen this movie in ages since watching your reaction video but I realize what a masterpiece this film is.
PEE-WEE'S BIG ADVENTURE!!!!!
it is comedy gold!! just brilliant scene for scene!! you'll love it, Alanda!!!!
13:57 my favorite scene
Your reactions really make my day! I'd love to see your reaction to Interview With The Vampire. It's an amazing 90s vampire movie, and I know you'll have a blast watching it.
Other great Tim Burton movies are Batman, Batman Returns, Beetlejuice, Ed Wood, Mars Attacks, and Alice in Wonderland.
And the lost boys. I'm pretty sure everyone knows that movie, but there are 35 year Olds who have never seen this movie
You reacted to my favourite movie! So happy to see this!
For your future horror vids, I recommend The Faculty by Kevin Williamson. It's a more light-type horror like his other movies Scream and IKWYDLS. Also, Sinister is another really good one that isn't too gory but is definitely up your alley. 😊
Love this movie . I cry each time I see this
The Faculty
Is just teenager camp that is well made.
