  • Shuzo John Shiota, president and CEO of Polygon Pictures, uses processes he learned in the Japanese steel industry to create efficient and innovative animation production that has helped change the scope and landscape of animation as an art form.
Animation has grown into an artistic genre where the limits of what can be created are only challenged by the limits of our imagination.
At the helm of an animation studio on the cutting edge is Shuzo John Shiota, president and CEO of Polygon Pictures. Since 2003 Shuzo has steered Polygon Pictures, utilizing the efficient and innovative manufacturing processes he experienced in the Japanese steel industry. Once a small animation studio, Polygon Pictures has grown under Shuzo’s leadership to being a world-class studio creating CG animation for major films as well as TV productions, receiving multiple awards for creativity along the way. Shuzo has not only opened Japanese animation to the world, but has also helped change the scope and landscape of animation as an art form.

I wish someone makes a TedTalk about the japanese 2D animation industry that is almost enslaving to its employees.

So efficient he ended his presentation with 20 seconds to spare, a nice tidy conclusion and a respectful bow.

Well, maybe not "perfect" but is indeed really good. Really refreshing to hear a Japanese creator speak "real" english, that not many do so, for example Hironobu Sakaguchi, is something that we have found odd in the past

Creativity day or night left or right, less is more, more or less, should I just do it, or should I just say no, that is the question?

It would be better if Polygon Pictures would invent a style that didn't emulate traditional anime. Their work on Clone Wars, whatever that might have been, is infinitely better than most of the other work that peers at us as the audience from the uncanny valley. Kind of like looking through a rift in time and space to see our worst nightmares take physical form. Efficiency is no excuse for poor overall execution on creative vision. Plenty of recording studios that make music quick and cheap have thousands of TV and movie credits, but most of them tend to be terrible documentaries and movies so bad that they wish they would have had a contract signed to legally prevent IMDB from giving them music credit for aforementioned train wrecks.
