Jumpin’ Joe! Two-time NBA All-Star, two-time ABA All-Star. A couple of All-Defensive nods. Olympic gold medalist. This guy got screwed by both leagues, and should be a Hall of Famer... the NBA has several channels dedicated to 24/7 basketball coverage. They do these greats a major injustice by not showing more of their history... anyway, great video! Thanks for doing the work the league should be doing.

Thank you and I agree. NBA should do much better job of paying fans attention to the history of the league.

ShinetheLightofTruth Lanier was inducted in 1992, but there are plenty of other deserving guys from the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s who deserve to be in there, like Lou Hudson, Larry Foust, Rudy LaRusso, Gene Shue, Don Ohl, Wayne Embry (he’s in as a contributor but should be in as a player as well), Johnny Green, Bob Dandridge, Walter Davis, and others. The good news is over the last decade, we’ve seen some deserving players from those eras inducted (better late than never) like Gus Johnson, Mel Daniels, Chet Walker, Roger Brown, Richie Guerin, Guy Rodgers, Spencer Haywood, Jo Jo White, Zelmo Beaty, Charlie Scott. Hope to see more worthy players inducted.

He was great from the time he was at Fremont High in LA. A fan favorite. Excellent on defense (praised by Walt Frasier), great on transition, tremendously fast and quick. His jump shot was inconsistent and he didn't shoot with his left hand which kept him from being all-NBA. He was a great asset for the Cougars along with the NBA's best forward Billy Cunningham.

Thanks for chopping up these videos and making these highlights. This allow me to see players I only read about in books and their basketball cards. Caldwell was one of the Founding Fathers of the Above The Rim wing players along with Johnny Green, Elgin Baylor, Connie Hawkins, and Gus Johnson.

Glad to hear he is alive and well. He really earned his paycheck: hard work on the floor and people in the seats.

I got to see Joe play several times in the ABA with the Carolina Cougars. The most exciting player I had seen play live to that point. You see him dunk in these clips but he really couldn't slam it down because the rims were still fixed pieces of iron.
Consider the footwear that was available at the time. Most players were still wearing Chuck Taylor's. I remember Joe wearing adidas Pro Models with Carolina. These shoes in no way gave you any spring. Yet Joe would sometimes entertain the fans in pre-game by plucking coins off the top of the backboard. It was quite a stunt. The man had some serious hops. He was a prototype of the modern player.
Unfortunately, later, after the team moved to St. Louis he was banned over the Marvin Barnes scandal, and never played again in the ABA or NBA. A terrible shame.
