    Welcome to the world of wooden ships! That is an ambitious first kit, although since you're a master with plastic, it should be a nice model. I never have liked the penciled look of planking, I've always cut each deck board to length, darken the edges, and apply them one-by-one, same with the second hull. I've also found that razor saws work better when cutting wood, than knifes. A knife tends to crush the fibers.

    Shaping pieces in water is not good try steaming in the parts with a wallpaper stripper for 30 minutes. Then clamp or pin then in place. You will have to work quickly so make sure you have everything to hand. I just put the wood parts up the hose of the steamer and restrict the flow of steam a little. I hope this helps someone

    Hello Alex, nice to see you work on a wooden project for a change. Maybe you already mentioned it in your comments and I missed it, or maybe you haven't discovered it yet... but you do realize that you have removed too much of your deck planking ? Namely the parts that would cover up the bulkheads, those little rectangles weren't supposed to be removed.
    A tip for you ; when assembling a wooden ships skeleton I use LEGO bricks to keep the bulkheads in a 90° position.
    At the moment I'm working on Revell's Haunebu II btw and I'm using your video as a referrence.

    This is the same ship I'm working on. It's also my first ship as well. I'm onto the planking right now. Kinda scared to start.
    I see you made the same mistake I made. You cut out the notches of the decking to fit the skeleton of the ship. When i looked closer i could see that the decking timber can lay straight over it. I ended up redoing it.
    Other than that looking good so far. It's a nice little ship.

    • @AlexModeling

      @@AlexModeling since writing that comment I have now watched the rest of your videos. You really like that sapelli dye. Lol. I think I'll just use varnish and let the natural colors of the woods do the work. The base looks good though. You made the right choice not using the pedestal they sent you.
      Looking good. I look forward to seeing you continue to make progress.

O primeiro não ficou no seu melhor.. ficou liso mas mesmo assim para testar produtos usei o filler de madeira e passei horas a lixa-lo. Estou agora a colocar o segundo forro de sapelli... O colocar as ripas no meio e arrematar nas pontas, proa e popa faz me confusão admito

    In building this ship and making a video it is important to note that background music is very annoying when trying to understand the narration and can reach a point where "adios" is indicated.

  • @genojoe3176
    @genojoe3176 2 года назад +1

    Ut Oh! I saw a boo boo., When you cut the notches in the deck, you were only supposed to cut thru the actual deck itself and not the decking planks. I did the same thing myself. Now you will need to fill in the gaps with small pieces of wood and decking.

    Just a tip. Wooden kits don’t age well in the box. So don’t buy an old kit that’s been sitting around for a couple of decades (like I did). All the wood had shrunk to the point where the skeleton pieces wouldn’t slot into each other. I filed them out but unfortunately threw out the entire alignment of the ship. It was a disaster and now shelved indefinitely. It’s the Endeavour. Can’t remember the brand without getting up and looking, but if anyone needs parts hit me up. I have plenty.

    Nice work so far Alex. Those Occre kits are so well made and nearly fall together. The only thing you missed was the alternate deck planks have no end joins. So you have one long plank the length of the ship, then one segmented every 10cm. If you want to fix it you’ll need to do that before adding anything else to the deck. The staggered join would be halfway between your current plank joins on the planks either side. I lightly score the join with my knife, then pencil it in. I showed the technique on my Constructo Bounty video. This might be of some help where I made lower deck sections. Go to 11:25 in the video.
