@@OlhaBatchvarov Hello Olha, I would like to ask you for some advice. I'm starting a new kit soon and wondering if the gaps between the bulkheads can be filled with pine which is much easier to carve than basswood? I would like to use the same technique as you for planking. Have you ever used pine or is basswood better in curves? Just to know, are you still missing material for your Confederacy?
@@denisv4385 Pine can absolutely perfectly replace basswood. The bow on the carrack is filled with this wood... @@OlhaBatchvarov Wow, thank you very much for the advice and the address for the wood, it's now in my bookmarks. Pear wood is hard to find in America and this will be my next crash building.
When you say sailing ship, most people think of napoleonic frigates and ships of the line, or majestic sleek schooners with 5 masts and thousands of square feet of sail, or maybe a buccaneer/privateer vessel. It’s easy to forget that these ungainly little carracks are what led the way in early exploration and domination of the seas. Watching you build this ship gives an interesting insight to the engineering and it’s construction. Excellent work and thank you for taking the extra step by recording your progress, editing the video and sharing with the world.
I’m building my first plank on bulkhead. I just finished the first layer of planking. It’s not coming out bad for my first one. I couldn’t have done it without you or your channel.

Hi, Olha, I am hoping that this vid being posted means that you are feeling better and are again able to work on your models. I also have some issues. If I couldn't work on my boats, I would go nuts. Very glad to see yours coming along. Take care.
@@OlhaBatchvarov Olha thanks very much for replying to my comment. I enjoy watching other people's work to get idea to improve my Channel. Take care DD
Olha, As I had stated, I feel the Carrack is a bit before my interest. However, this vessel is such an interesting build that it would be fun to build!!
As always I am blown away by your skills Olha :o This is again just the proof that you are really talented and that you have the greatest skills for doing such a stunning work. I am absolutely impressed by your attention to detail and it shows in the result. Just mindblowing !!
Thank you so much for your very entertaining, educational and inspiring videos. One day I will build the Carack, it is such a lovely ship. Being an apprentice I will start with some smaller boats though, I need to get the endurance first. Again, thank you.
Olha so beautiful! Living art. I’ve made three boats ( and one for real sailboat) and although I’m proud of them they are zero compared with your fine work.
What are your thoughts on plastic model ships?? I would love to see someone of your skill level build one, I'm doing the Nina and Santa Maria by heller right now and they're coming out honestly really well, but it is a completely different world of modeling, where the skill and craftsmanship of wooden ship modeling gives way to detail painting instead. You are a truly skilled modeller
I have never tried plastic models. This is really a completely different world - a world of 100% imitation and painting skills to make the model look realistic. I have a different "religion" - I prefer wood, metal and textiles, taking into account the fact that everything that was wooden on the boat - must be wooden, and therefore all plastic parts in the kits - I change them to appropriate materials...
Unfortunately, we only have a description of these ships, so this is the interpretation of the author of the kit, how the Ragusan carracks could have looked. His main source for creating drawings was a silver plate with an engraving of a ship in the church...
Hello, great to watch... I feel so much more relaxed already!! I'd like to get started in this hobby myself - so hard to determine what tools to save up for. Can you perhaps help me by pointing out what electric drill, bench sander & rotary tool that you use? I really would be a fantastic help for me. Many thanks
I have a separate playlist about tools. Check the "NECESSARY TOOLS" in a PLAYLISTS tab. There is all this information in detail. From manual to electric as needed and with examples for use...

Very relaxing just to watch Olha. You should covert the carrack to Henry VIII's flag ship, the Mary Rose.
