I'll never understand the problem some people have with cyclists on the road to the point they have to cause problems that could cause injury or death. I had a similar situation when touring around the Olympic Peninsula a few years ago with a logging truck. I was on an 8-foot shoulder with no traffic in either direction and he decided to buzz me, forcing me onto the non-paved section. Glad no accident happened with your motorist induced close call. BTW, just discovered your videos which will help me in my plans for riding the Katy Trail this or next year. Enjoy life and ride safe.
That experience on the detour was very unnerving. We try to stick to bike paths for our rides, but even then crossing roads and intersections can be deadly if you don't pay attention. Glad the videos will help your planning. The Katy trail is a gem for doing long multi day rides. I HATE road riding and do all that I can to avoid it around where we live. The drivers scare me when I am in a truck, much less a bike! I guess that I am just going to go ahead and binge watch this whole series!
I agree, just driving a car is nerve-wracking enough these days riding a bike on roads is not something we like to do. Doing it in a rainstorm and on a high speed road with no shoulder was petrifying. The good news is that the bike trail bridge was fixed this summer so no detour is required anymore.
