Oh, that's weird to see a promo for Big Brother. Did S4C actually air the show when it was live during the summer? Or is this a kind of "D'oh! We opted out of the biggest show of the year, now we need to let Wales finally catch up with it."? No, I'm guessing it was just a complete rerun, right? I wish Channel 4 had done the same, actually. I'd have loved to watched the whole thing again, at the time. I do recall that Channel 4 did a Big Brother Night event, around this time, with a couple of documentaries about the series and a rerun of the edition where Nasty Nick got caught out.
Interesting promo, I wonder why they didn't use footage of the actual housemates from that year? Instead, they went for a very similar cut of the one which Channel 4 used to promote the show when it first went on air. I don't think the people featured were specifically hired to shoot the promo, rather they were the test subjects who lived in the house for a few days to do a test run for the upcoming production.
Big Brother was fantastic, in those early years. The first series was particularly good. It was grimy, gritty, real. There was an actual point to it, living a back-to-basics lifestyle and working as both individuals and as a group to survive the testing conditions. They squandered that element so badly, in later years. It became all glitzy, glamourous and manufactured. I grew to hate it, eventually. It became dumb and pointless. And seriously cruel. Whenever I see old Big Brother stuff, it makes me yearn to have the show back. But then I realise it's far better to keep it off the air for good, because they completely misunderstand what made it great in the first instance and just end up making it even more trashy and plastic to try and pep up the ratings. Shame to say it, but it way outstayed its welcome. Even the biggest fans of old hated it by the end.

I remember Vaughany asking during an interview: "So, do you actually think Nasty Nick is genuinely evil, or d'ya think it's a game strategy to ironically keep him in?

In Wales back then on the old analog signal you could pick up both the Welsh S4C and the English Channel 4 so it didn't matter.
