    Great video and this helped me a lot. I’m also confirming that a hacksaw will be sufficient for folks that don’t have professional cutting tools. Was able to get a clean enough cut and then spray on some rustoleum.

      Thanks much for the comments. Yes, a hacksaw will do the trick. Thanks for the 'hack'!

    Very helpful video! TIP: pry the hinge cover STRAIGHT UP, not to the side. That is how I didn't break the clips.

      Another tip: bicycle tire levers make great pry tools.

    Very Helpful thanks. My dealer wanted to rob me with their ridiculous pricing. Got OEM rails online for $150 less than the dealer and installed them myself - thanks again!

    I have a 16 but it should be the same exact install .
    I was a little nervous that it involved drilling through the roof but you just took a ton of weight off my shoulders for me to do it myself .
    We have a big trip coming soon and these rails will come in handy.
    Buying the rails today 👌🏼 Thank you very much this vid helped tons !
    Peace ✌️

      Sorry Mike, that was a few years ago. But I just did a Google search for them and picked the ones that I thought would work. I do show the part number in the video from the package. It was really worth it and not difficult.

      Sorry for the late reply. No link at the time. It was a last minute thought to video the install since we didn't find much else online. Google searched the part, checked reviews, ordered the one that fit my budget and had good reviews. I think we ordered from Hondaparts.com.

    After putting the rails, how would I go about adding the racks? Great video! Thanks

    • @mondoman5324
      @mondoman5324  3 года назад

      From what I recall, there are preset holes that you just screw in whatever rack you are using. The hole spacing should be standardized where most racks would fit.

    • @mondoman5324
      @mondoman5324  2 года назад

      I think that was covered in the video if you are referring to the crossrails. There is already receiving hardware built into the car roof by Honda. It's just under the rails.

      There should be preset holes to screw in whatever rack you buy. The holes should be standardized. Just buy OEM racks and you should not have any problem.

    I have a 2016 Honda CRV. Are the roof rails the same as on a 2017 Honda Pilot?

    • @mondoman5324
      @mondoman5324  5 лет назад

      I don't know but I if you order specific for that vehicle, it should be similar.

  • @jamesriese3988
    @jamesriese3988 3 года назад

    I have a 2016. Your video is the best I’ve seen. Extremely helpful. Based on your experience with the rails, do you think the newer (209-2021) rail less crossbars will work for your year? Based on a video of both, they look very similar.

    • @mondoman5324
      @mondoman5324  2 года назад

      Sorry for the delay. I couldn't say on that. Check with the manufacturer of the ones you are interested in to see. I recommend a kit online. Just check the fit for your specific vehicle.

    What’s the maximum weight capacity for this roof rack?

    • @mondoman5324
      @mondoman5324  4 года назад +1

      sorry for the delayed reply, I think it would depend on which make and model of roof rails you purchase though I think they would all be somewhat similar. Check with the manufacturer's spec sheet. We used a heavily loaded Yakima skybox on ours and had no issues, I think we could have added kayaks, etc. and it would have been fine.

      I did a Google search for the OEM part, there are a number of them out there. I believe it came from Honda parts. I believe also there is a shot of it in the video. I will try to review and put in the part number soon.

    • @mondoman5324

      It was an aftermarket OEM product. It's been a while but I think it was Hondaparts.com. I don't think they are a direct Honda parts manufacturer.

    @Mondo Man... Hi thank you for making the video. Do these OEM rails allow the crossbars to be placed anywhere on the rails? Or are they designated to be attached on a predetermined spot?

    • @mondoman5324
      @mondoman5324  6 лет назад +1

      Hi Solja, sorry for the delayed reply. The Honda direct product roof rails have hardware in a predetermined place. I found a used Yakima rocket box luggage carrier for cheap. The clamps on these are adjustable so it fit great.

      So you have to install these rails in order to install the rails to mount a cargo box? Nice video.

    • @mondoman5324
      @mondoman5324  5 лет назад +1

      @@flyerzfan10 Sorry for the delay, I don't get comment notifications. I will figure out how to turn that on. To my knowledge Yes, you would need these rails to install crossrails. I don't see another way to put one on to secure it to the roof.

    Pointing out the anodized steel and rust potential shows your level of experience, whether it is or not, you properly prepped the railing and provided rust prevention information. Experience prevents further issues. Also, guaranteed the dealer if they put these on, have replacement clips and precut pieces, at additional cost that their techs don't typically do and likely scratch and break these clips and don't rust prevent due to their inexperience. Being ASE certified does not make you a certified tech or mechanic to me.

    The last part is scary!
    After installing the black kit safe and secure with so many screws, the silver cover is only snapped on it with a tiny little screw, sometimes the roof rack, box plus the cargo could be hundreds of pounds. If that plastic cover slips or snaps, there goes the disaster.

    • @bd8677
      @bd8677 5 лет назад

      I agree. The silver cover seems to be held on by plastic clips ONLY. If you have a luggage carrier on top and it catches some air, you are counting on some plastic clips from keeping it from blowing off. The kit underneath seems secure but the plastic cover that eventually roof rails would be attached to, seems inadequate. But what do I know?

    • @bd8677
      @bd8677 5 лет назад

      Ok I think I figured it out. The cover is truly cosmetic. I saw on another video that there are 4 connecting points on each side of the inside of the rails that the cover DOES NOT cover, allowing you to connect the cross rails. That is a relief.
