  • No Man's Sky is an action-adventure survival game played from a first or third person perspective that allows players to engage in five principal activities: exploration, survival, combat, trading and base building. The player takes the role of a specimen of alien humanoid planetary explorer, known in-game as the Traveller, in an uncharted universe. They start on a randomized planet near a crashed spacecraft towards the edge of the galaxy and are equipped with a survival exosuit with a jetpack, and a "multitool" that can be used to scan, mine and collect resources as well as to attack or defend oneself from creatures and hostile forces. The player can collect, repair, and refuel the craft, allowing them to travel about the planet, between other planets and space stations in the local planetary system, engage in space combat with alien factions, or make hyperspace jumps to other star systems. While the game is open-ended, the player may follow the guidance of the entity known as The Atlas to head toward the centre of the galaxy.

    First thing they need to do is update the controls. Or at least give you the option to use a more racing gamer controls where you have a trigger for gas that alone would make me use it much more. Second they should give each exocraft and ship a special ability to make it useful in game ( all should have default environmental armor ).
    Say the Roamer and fighter/solars get racing speeds , drifting and the ability to track special items ( like metal fingers ,fungal mold etc) . This can lead to adding racing in games for multiplayer or system racing. Have like gambling appearance setup to races in some Pirate systems
    Haulers and Colossus have extra heavy armor and can "extra heavy " items that fall in meter showers to the game which only can be picked up and carried by haulers and colossus and can be sold extra profits ( as well as special build projects) , ( Bring back special tech to Kovak systems for study for special tech or bring to Autopage for special equipment/ship parts
    Nautilon and living ships can be used for deep sea missions and under water ruins that cant be access by swimming alone to add special lore and items. ( 1st Gek historical relics
    Make the Pilgrim and Exotic a portal jumper where you can gain access to world portals directly from portal controls where you just need to power the Pilgrim and enter in cord through its own simplified interface then use it to drive through( possibly access special areas)
    The Nomad and Solar i would make all purpose .. can absorb energy from environment . Give it a special charge attack/power that he can stock up from absorbing energy and can use it for super power attack or scanners say like that goofy scanner on your suit instead of having to walk and narrow down by walking a charged scan will give you and exact location. Also charges faster in storms.
    Minotaur already has ai controls where it can be uses alone so al i would add is let you use all your regular suit scanners as well as adding battle arenas in game for bonus tech( probably in Vykeen systems.

    I use my Colossus as a construction trailer for laying down the initial infrastructure for new bases. So I only need to carry enough resources in suit storage to build my geobay and a base computer. Then I just summon “Big Mama” to the jobsite and get to work laying down a power grid, teleporter, etc. When she’s parked at Home Base I keep her within range of my refiner clusters to hold my components while I craft and process. She’s too damn slow to take her overland. It’s a semi-mobile portable warehouse.
    The nice thing about the exocraft signal booster is after adding the advanced version you can scan for drop pods, abandoned buildings, and supply depots for the low low price of 1 Nav Data. I’ve tricked out my Pilgrim with 3 X-Class Modules to boost its speed up to nearly jet pack levels. I use it to scout out any goodies or points of interest I might have missed from the air. Also, having grown up during the hey day of Evel Kennivel, I’m always down for trying to fly things that were never meant to fly. This thing is just a blast to drive!
    I’d like to see a greater range of upgrade mods for custom building them for different tasks. Hell the colossus should be able to carry ship grade weaponry. Imagine a land-going battleship or mobile artillery for assaulting sentinel pillars!
    Here’s an off-the-wall idea: how about adding a hang-glider?

      Wow, big brane. I like this. I use mine for all the golden collectors junk. The freighter storage works for me, but I really like how purposeful this is.

      Very good use of the Colossus! I would like to get more of a "Lonestar's Winnebago from Spaceballs" type of vibe from the thing, so the overblown camper can go faster than it currently does, but not on the level of "Going to Plaid."

      @@migs7220 Still haven't gotten a freighter yet. Too easily distracted and have yet to complete any of the main story arcs, so my game progression is a little off-kilter. I've amassed quite a fortune making Fusion Ignitors and have nanites to burn from shoveling Kronos full of Jelly Doughnuts and Delicious Vegetable Stew. Even after acquiring all the goodies on the Anomaly and upgrading my ships and gear I have a surplus.
      But because I skipped over the tutorial missions, I'm missing some of the most basic things. Still having a blast though.

      @@danielstokker Knuckled down and finally getting it done. These Overseer missions are a breeze when you've already got on hand everything he sends you to get. Also, 2 Glyphs down, 14 more to go. Ran across my second Traveler when scoping out a Scientist to hire on multiple Korvax Stations. Broke down and bought a Freighter after accidentally shooting the Space Station during the Freighter battle to unlock the free one. I was soon neck deep in aggressive Sentinels and too busy escaping sudden unscheduled rapid disassembly to keep track of where that poor Freighter went. Land ed on the wrong one, but it was an A Class so I just went ahead and bought it.

    Every one of the exocrafts should have a scanner function for flora/fauna, minerals and such, and an ability to find at least minor settlements (you know, tuning into a radio broadcast signal). All of these are ground based vehicles, and having an exo-copter that can fly like 100-200u above the ground would be cool.

    I think making them built for massively different types of terrain would be awesome. I was watching a youtuber play with the voxel engine and creating crazy chimera planets that makes riding your exocrafts nearly impossible. If we got crazy worlds, I imagine it would be amazing if the different exocraft were built for the different types of worlds.

    Every time I want to find a portal on a planet, I bring out my rover, scan for alien structures and done.
    Fly to the structure, ask for portal and done. Easy peasy lemon squeezy. Although, yeah, I don't use the other exocrafts. Except maybe the nautilus in deep ocean quests. It's a personal choice rather than them not being useful.

    I tend to use the Minotaur the most, mostly for the hazard protection but also because if you use the (I think 3rd person view, i.e. viewing from behind) and use the scanner, it'll show any near by mould clusters, you can to this quicker that it takes to upgrade the multitool, plus as has been said you can harvest/mine certain items as well.

    I always thought the Colossus should have an atmosphere harvester in a tech slot.
    90% of the time I forget I even have these crafts aside from my AI piloted Minotaur, and I nearly always regret that thing because it's so spazzy. It just LOVES to crush whatever mineral I'm trying to scan because I had to exit it to use the Analysis Visor

    You know you can upgrade all of these right? I mean, with the engine upgrade the Nautilon is 10x faster than the jetpack. The Roamer and Pilgrim with the upgrades are significantly faster than travelling on foot, even with the melee boost. The lasers are far stronger than a fully upgraded mining beam, the cannon's range puts all multitool weapons to shame, and the Bore can mine mineral deposits without tearing up the surrounding terrain.
    They're extremely effective on Dissonant worlds. You can zip from one crystal cluster to another mining them extremely fast and take out the resonators from so far away that the sentinels can't find you.
    The Nomad might not be the fastest exocraft, but not having to hop in and out when crossing a body of water is a godsend on certain planets.

      I didn't know any of those things. I rarely see anyone use exocraft so I guess most people don't know, either.

      @@jetnavigator believe me, I've noticed too. They're seriously neglected by content creators and in today's gaming space, that's a problem. The thing is, yes, they kinda suck out of the box, but once you upgrade them, they're kind of awesome in the right situations.

    Ahoy Captain, I have been thinking exo craft need an update for a while. Here are a few ideas I have had.
    All craft should have their own shield upgrades and health bar. If a craft is “destroyed” the pilot is ejected (shot 50 units in the air) and has to be repaired later.
    Exo-Mech;
    SAM launcher for attacking those pesky pirate ships.
    Target sweep interface with ability to choose a resource to sweep for.
    Controls function like on foot controls with ability to walk backwards and sideways
    Colossus;
    Base building menu interface
    Ability to detect when over a hot spot and ability to act like a Mineral Extractor or Gas Extractor when within a hotspot.
    Pilgrim;
    Visor interface, use your visor to scan flora, fauna and minerals while inside.
    Roamer
    Survey Device, scan for hot spots while inside.
    Signal boaster, scan for local PoIs and temporary “bird’s eye view” of the surrounding area.
    Nomad;
    Jump thruster upgrades; current jump thruster is not very useful, allow upgrades to allow the Nomad to jump higher and longer. Thruster only thrust up and rely on momentum and engine boast for forward movement and turning.
    Nautilon;
    Visor interface, use your visor to scan flora, fauna and minerals while inside.
    Resource collection like mech
    If deep oceans are added limit exo suit to half the maximum depth

      I like your thoughts. I use exocraft more than many, but probably much less than yourself. I find the exocraft materializer on a Freighter to be extremely important. Any craft ever spawned, virtually instantly available in any galaxy, star system and planet. But, you know that.

    I'd like to see the Colossus be more like a camper or mobile base. Small 3 resource refiner, small kitchen, 4-8 slot hydroponics table, and a teleporter that will only link you back to either your starship or your base on the same planet. It would give you full protection from the elements but be vulnerable to weapon attacks like ships are. Of course all of this stuff would have power demands so you'd have to install a furnace that would work separate from the engine and keep a eye on it.

    The only one I don't use regularly is tge colossus. This thing needs more functionality to make up for its lack of mobility. I have a few ideas for it...
    1) it needs a large refiner in it. The ability to do complex refining on the go would definitely give it some use.
    2) I'd like it to have some automated combat upgrades, basically, you can park it and it won't move, but it shoots at anything in range maybe even a small collection of combat drones and homing missiles.
    3) a grabber arm for collecting things that can otherwise be only gathered with Hazmat Gauntlets.

    I love these ideas and agree that the exocrafts, much like companions need an overhaul. Currently I use the hovercraft the most bc it goes for better navigation in island like planets. It and the naurilon have use although I feel like it's less now bc we can land our ships on water now.
    If it was up to me I'd put better handling, speed control and agility on each of these exoxrafts bc they are often recklessly driven destroying trees and animals and anything in their path, this makes them unrealistic and unreliable as I often end up in some ditch somewhere when I'm trying to enjoy them but if I could drive slower and be able to maneuver better, I'd be able to avoid said ditch. I also think your idea about scanning is brilliant bc the other problem with using them is everytime you want to do something you have to get out of the exocraft. Allowing at least the exomech to scan is a great idea. I like the canopy on the rover idea too but would take it further by allowing us to customize our exocrafts further than just color design.

    Same page here, totally agree with your points. I once used the Colossus for storing crafting materials. But, using the Nautilon to find a wrecked Hauler made it obsolete, (also the MAGNIFICENT Freighter storage). I only unlocked the Roamer to get to the Nomad and Minotaur in the tree. The Nomad will get you across water, but also straight up a sheer mountainside. It can get frustrating in a gravity storm though. The Minotaur is great for lumbering, sheltered, mobility and foraging and an often crucial battle companion. More tech slots please!

    I have always wanted the colossus to have a large refiner and possibly the nutrient processor.
    You may want to try maxing out a nautilon. It is not as slow as it used to be.

    I never really used the exocrafts much until the last expedition. The mech was a real game changer in my ability to take out bugs. I have recently started a permadeath game to go after the achievement you get for reaching the center and am pretty close to building the mech suit for this. It would be nice to have a safe place for me to retreat to while exploring planets without having to call my ship

    Oops! Forgot to mention that making the Freighter into the invaluable storage system requires both the Blue Star class hyperdrive and the Matter Teleporter. Those can require several Salvaged Frigate Modules to unlock.

    in my opinion reducing item stack size or adding a weight system would make storage vaults and exocrafts a must have and also add alot of depth to recource gathering

      I think the exo suit has too much cargo capacity, but that is a minority view. The peanut gallery demands more, more, more, and HGs doesn't know how to say "no".

    The exo mech needs shield modules to boost its defence. I never fight whilst piloting one. My maxed out shields with personal S class modules last about 30 seconds. Ridiculous when I’m fighting a biological horror with a titanium mech !!

    I use the Exo suit all the time for clearing out sentinals and walkers, also the for the Monstrosities, the Nautauli for underwater searches, and the Nomad... its great for cruising around on planets with lots of bodies of water...

    This is a brilliant video with great ideas. I only use Exocraft if the game requires it. They are almost useless. They once served as a second type of storage container, but when Hello Games increased the exosuit inventory, they nerfed all the ecocraft for me.

    I like the idea of the Colossus having your storage vaults. I personally have always thought that both the Colossus and the Roamer should be able to carry passengers. More in the Colossus say 6-8. And the roamer say 2-4. Love the idea of the Roamer being like the warthog from Halo, though! I'd personally like to see separate build options for each vehicle. Like their own garages and or separate base types.
    I'd like to see a tunneling vehicle like those things the foot clan use in the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon series! That would be rad!

    I never use any of them except the minotaur when I need some backup muscle. I think one thing that might help is having no-go zones for space craft to prevent them from being used to taxi you everywhere, encouraging the use of land craft.

      I like this idea. I have thought about a Dyson sphere or hollow earth where once you have entered you can't access your ship.

    I like everything you came up with. I would like to add the ability to look around in the Minotaur without moving the mech itself. On PC, I can hold down the Left-ALT key and look in a limited forward arc in the starships right now. I think it would be a lovely jubbly ability to have in the good ol' Minotaur as well.

    I think the colossus should be a recover/base building vehicle. Like giving you the ability to craft repair modules to recover ships

    The exocraft is similar to the living ship, a good idea and no follow up. I never have used them beyond the storyline requirements.
    Well I did make a garage for them to stay in at one of my early bases, so they were good for that.
    My opinion is to just get them out of the game and take some time to give us one or two ground vehicles but not before they take the time to figure out what to do with a ground vehicle.
    Hah, give us a big a$$ tank that can shoot missiles at pirates flying around.

    I use my exocraft. Mostly the minotaur but also the nomad. You never take fall damage and you can protect from storms. But you have to get out. I think the most useful thing Hello Games could give us is the ability to access the storage on the exocraft via the orbital exocraft room on our freighters. Because if you put something in an exocraft you can't access it unless you're planet side.

    I mean, they said the minotaur has upgraded ai in a recent update. But playing on the switch (eh, I'll upgrade to pc sometime), the base minotaur seems far more dependable than the 2 upgraded versions

    If you put S class movement upgrades in the nautilon supercharged slots then it actually moves very very fast haha. Mine absolutely flies through the ocean.
    I like to use my colossus to go on long distance expeditions as it feels like a true explorer vehicle

    For exocraft advanced radar scans press d-pad down menu and select radar. You can scan for distress signals , deport silo , minor settlements , ruins and monoloths.

    These are all really great improvement suggestions! I also don't use any exocraft as an endgame character. Though I do think you might be wrong about the Nautilon speed vs jetpack... Mine seems a lot faster than my personal water jets. That might be fun to test in multiplayer!

    I'd like to see the Exo-craft with more multi-player capabilities. For instance, the Colossus could have two or three "stations" each station provides a function such as mining/processing or weapons systems, navigation, and/or radar/scanner functions. It would also be cool if you could "tank up" the Colossus, too, for battle. Maybe some flames or go faster stripes

    I would love to see HG make a galactic summoning station.. How it works is just like the normal exo-mech summoning station but instead of only spawning you exo-mech in the same system as the summoning station, you can summon your exo-mech in the same galaxy as the summoning station... That would be AWESOME

    I don't really use any of the Exo-Craft, other than the AI Minotaur at Sentinel Pillars! They are just extra storage!

    I think they should take some of the ai of the minotaur and apply it to other exocraft.
    Then they could create roving traders, miners, hunting parties, researchers and pirates on planets.
    Make the world more immersive without too much overhead. Could use your communicator to call in certain types depending on standing.
    Missions could be offered if you have good standing.
    Allow for combat, on foot vs exocraft, exocraft vs exocraft, exocraft vs ships, ground to air is not well represented in the combat system.
    Itd be cool to call in air strikes, from exocraft, ships, freighters.

    Great ideas! Utility through limitation. I keep the hyperdrive tanks on all my ships empty so that I use my freighter for warping.

    I hardly ever use the Exocrafts. When i do its the Nomad, gets me around quicker, and Minotaur for back up when thjngs get a hairy with the sentinels.
    I would love a flying exocraft, one that cant escape atmosphere, but can get you round tk the other side of the planet quicker. I find using the Ship a bit awkward, kinda gotta pulse away from the planet and back to get to another area of a planet, unless its locked on a target itll fly round the planet. So a flying exocraft to me would be good

    Because I ran the expedition again on another SteamVR Save, I ended up with an extra set of Liquidator Minotaur hardware. Since it is not a commodity, it can't be duplicated nor given to others. So it just takes up 4 slots of freighter storage. I still wonder what might happen after any patch to fix the bug. I don't need those slots back. I just don't want to scrap them until we know more.

    I really only use my exocraft as storage and scanning. Sometimes I do use the bike or buggy for just driving around when gathering ancient bones and such but it's rare. An autogather function or onboard refiner would be nice.

    I was really excited when I found out that we could use exocraft at the beginning of the game but, I too never use the exocraft as I can't see any benefits to using them. When on a planet I find I can jet pack around far more quickly than any of the "Exo's". I thought the roamer would have it advantages but, slooooow and like the others, they're cumbersome to use. I know they can all be upgraded but even then, apart from the extra storage, I can't see a benefit. I've only used the mech in the expedition mission. It's the same for all of them for me. I thought that I wasn't using them correctly until I saw you using them Capt' Steve. 😀

    You should atleast build one of these with a good radar
    - cause you actually can search for settlements depots etc with the radar they have on them - so you just do that instead buying the maps

    I have a base on a twin planet system where the gravity is almost nil, on it I have a launch strip with racing speeders roads that enables players to travel to the other planet with all the exocrafts (except the Nautilon) If you ever want to try it for a video let me know.

    Sean tried to do this a few patches back. He tried to patch the melee rocket boost glitch that everyone uses to make the exocraft useful for travel again. The community made such a big stink that the patch was immediately reverted.

    The only two exocraft I use is the Minotaur and Roamer. I leave the AI enabled on the Mino to act as a bodyguard and the Roamer is just fun to drive.

    My problem is that even with upgrades, they just feel bad to drive. The engine boost being its own tank that depletes and recharges fast means they kinda "lurch" around the environment. It feels crap, even if technically faster than melee boosting with the jetpack.
    Imo, that needs to be reworked. I'd personally make it more like Death Stranding; boosting would just drain your main fuel tank much quicker, but other than that you could boost forever. Top speed would be reduced to compensate.
    The other main issue I have with exocrafts is how annoying they are to summon. You have to craft a geobay, or the freighter summoning station. The freighter one is technically better because you then dont need to craft a geobay... But then you need your freighter in the same system, which means all freighter hyper drive upgrades, which means lots of frigate modules which are the most annoying upgrade module to grind out.
    I would fix that by having tech you can install in your star ship that acts like a geobay. You could only have 1 of these types of tech installed, so you'd have to choose which exocraft you want easy access to... But then you'd always be able to summon that exocraft (maybe with the same range restriction as item teleporting?).
    I think that would fix my main issues with them. Better handling thats smooth instead of lurchy, easier to summon a "primary" exocraft.
    Everything else would be frosting on the cake (being able to survey from within the cockpit, more specialization ie roamer would be a generalist, Colossus would be resource gathering/storage, etc). Just... Get them to actually "bearable to use" first.

    I used to use my roamer to collect stuff, but once you have bases on all the resources you need, there is little need for land vehicles. I don't think you should be able to harvest resources from your ship. It makes all other ways redundant.

    I mostly use my minotaur as a body guard /companion occasionally my pilgrim if I wanna get some where quick and I don't feel like walking occasionally my colosus (i named her big bertha after the paver from cars) if I don't have a lot of room in my suit inventory and im on like a bone hunt...

    The only exocraft I use is the Mech.. i think they need to do more to make them stand out. To me most of them seem to be a reskin of the same idea. They are all waaay to similar to one another. Other than a few different boost types and larger storage to start with the colossus they do not stand out at all. Late game pretty much every exo craft can be forgotten about. I totally agree with the survey device and scanner for the exo mech atleast.

    I would be happier if the exocraft just moved faster. Especially the Nautilon. It would also be good to get a low altitude aircraft of some sort, with 360 deg vision and the ability to scan for resources.

    The controls aren't very good for exocraft and first person view in the mech is terrible. Some sort of atmospheric flyer would be great. Something that hovers and you could get out anywhere, even mid air if you want. No take off cost, but it has the constant energy drain when in use like the other exo craft. It would be great for local excursions where you want to hop in and out of your ship, but unlike a normal ship, it cannot leave atmosphere.

    I wouldn't seeing a Exo-Craft Storage Expansion Pods that would allow us to expand the storage slots in all of the Exo-Crafts.

    uoah to the big captain! very nice video! The thing I miss on the minotaur is running.. it would be nice if it could run fast across the planet. I rerolled my S mods for the nautilon and it goes like a jetski.. very fast.

    Having the Exocraft running at a constant fast speed would be great. The boost recharge is absurd. Even with save edited modules it's frustrating

    Nobody has addressed this yet. Does the new exo mech parts stack with previous hardframe upgraded parts? I know you can have both installed but are they getting bonuses or taking up precious limited slot space?

      You can't see the stats... hard to tell... but they don't light up like they have the adjcentcy bonus...

    They were faster in Pathfinder, a lot more fun. It would be great if we could armor up the pilgrim ,nomad, and roamer to make them battleready, think twisted metal.
    They also need to he stabilized for VR. Riding them on land is jarring in VR.

    The Bike, the Hovercraft because they can be fun, but now with waterlanding the hovercraft is less useful, mostly I use the sensors and leave the unit back at camp, they are too bloody slow for any real use.

    capt steve i cannot call my ships in now after the last update while in the water...below it or above it.....could before the last update...oh and why can we NOT buy storage slots for the exo-craft...cabbot even put all that are avaliable now in the monitor

    I like your ideas Captain Steve. My frustration is that I can’t upgrade the slots in the exocraft so I’m stuck with the slots I had initially. Still waiting for the fix to get the new bits for the Exomech after completing the last expedition. Unfortunately I saw your video after completing the expedition assuming I could claim the upgrades! Doh

    Captain Steve's this might be for out there but it would be nice if your Echo Mac could turn into a ship and fly out to space to other worlds then when you land it turns back into a exo back EXO Mec and hello games make it the way that you can use the skin of your other ships to apply to your mech 2 change the Outlook appearance

    The control for all exo crafts sucks
    Especially that dag on Minotaur.
    and there should be a exo craft to exo craft and exo craft to starship boarding process.

      The mechanics are the same as your character.
      There is no mechanic for The Minotaur, Nautilus , etc etc
      I play in first person view only

    Exomech moves like trash in first person on pc xd
    So do most, if not all, exocraft. If they redid the Exomech to move more like the player character, at least on platforms other than vr, then that would be golden.
