Galwan And After: Reality Check On India-China Relations |

- Four years after the Galwan clash and the military standoff between India and China that continues to this day, what lessons can one draw from it? Is there a way forward? Will China continue its belligerent course or does a recent statement by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the appointment of the Chinese ambassador to Delhi after a gap of 17 months suggest that both sides are looking at some breakthroughs in the near future?
All these questions and more came up at a roundtable organised by StratNews Global almost a month before the 4th anniversary of Galwan. Among the participants were China scholars Jayadeva Ranade of the Centre for China Analysis & Strategy, Lt. Gen. Rakesh Sharma, who commanded 14 Corps overseeing Ladakh, Srikanth Kondapalli, head of East Asia Studies at Jawaharlal Nehru University and Sriparna Pathak associate professor at Jindal Global University.
Editor-in-Chief Nitin A. Gokhale and Editor Surya Gangadharan anchored the nearly an hour-long discussion.
Ranade believes Galwan was China’s effort to show India its place, that Beijing did not take kindly to Delhi’s efforts for a place at the international table, and that India was trying to rival and outshine China.
Gen Sharma acknowledged that China’s current military posture will remain a challenge to the Indian military planners for a foreseeable future. China has ensured the border is “benign” for them, he noted, but the unprecedented military build up has ensured that the next time India will not be a pushover in any future conflict.
Prof Kondapalli pointed to the difference in the understanding of the concept of strategic autonomy. The Chinese see it as independence from the US but India sees it as allowing freedom of manoeuvre vis a vis China. He faulted India for its failure to mobilise and bring together all those countries embroiled in territorial disputes with Beijing-Japan, Taiwan, Vietnam and the Philippines.
Sriparna Pathak underscored China’s declining economic growth. Although it claims more than 5 percent GDP growth rate, the reality is that the Chinese economy has not grown more than a little over 1%. That crisis, she argues, suggests Taiwan will have lower priority, at least no move likely on the island this year.

China’s position and situation are nothing like what these laughable experts are saying. There is no reason for china not to have a good relationship with India. china -malaysia and china Indonesia, and china-vietnam 🎉🎉 all have a healthy relationship despite territory dispute.
amazed to see such an experienced panel. Thanks to surya sir, nikhil sir and whole team.
Very erudite and balanced team. PLEASE keep bringing them back - well analyzed by the experts.
搞笑,阿三又在yiyin
This was an exceptionally informative discussion that covered so much ground! It’s exceptional especially when we contrast it with the quality and depth of discussion elsewhere on the web! Thank you!
Cooperation is win win solution ❤
Very well done, Nitin. You and Surya do a stellar job. Compliments and Congratulations!
The panel was very well put together.
Excellent insights. The first rule now is that there are no rules while dealing with China.
The general and the guy to the left of Nitin are morning and should not be anywhere near policy making or even a Mike. E
Truly appreciate Team StratnewsGlobal for this stellar podcast It was so informative. The Galwan Stand-off is as sensitive issue in all its aspects for all stakeholders. An Erudite panel that just discussed this without using hyperbole... Keep up the high standards
.
Nitin should invite Pravin Sawhney to discuss this issue. He is very knowledgeable about 🇮🇳 / 🇨🇳 disputes n above all he is respected by all. This group of peoples have ax to grind against China n can’t be trusted to be objective. What’s needed is an unbiased voice. Not a group of converts, preaching to each other’s.
Pravin Sawhney on radar of intelligence Agency radar he compromised man he seen as Chinese puppet
No one in India take that traitor of any use
Current important figures from China to India in USD in23 ,/24 is estimated 100 Billion USD.
China is our largest trading partner. As far as the Chinese exports to India are concerned, they are growing by leaps and bounds as per the latest data. The trade imbalance is also massive.
Yes the focus should on balance of trade. That is are the real wealth comes from. Gpd is useless. It is like saying I made gdp 1,000,000 USD a year, but my committed expense is 1,000,500. I will never have any saving and no wealth.
Amazing panelist’s discussing matters of strategic importance. I would call them the Real think tank
Most of them are clueless about economy. Why China has become India's largest trading partner? There are synergies between the 2 big economies. China's economy is far from collapsing and India gets components from China for all the main sectors of India in automobile, pharmaceutical and telecommunication industries. Indian doesn't really buy lamp shades, toys and plastic baaltees from China.
The quality of discussions in Stratnews Global is clearly a cut above the rest !!
Excellent discussion..
Very insightful
I was fortunate enough to learn a lot under Prof. Srikanth Kondapalli about China during my two years of stint at JNU. He is one of the foremost experts on China in our country. More power to him.
The reality is that neither side can "win big". Neither China nor India can take a big piece of land from each other. If either manages to do it in a sneaky fashion, the result is a fierce battle.
It is time for these two countries to accept the reality and cede whatever they do not control now. Make today's line of control the official border. And concentrate your energy and resources on solving problems of your own society. Education, pollution, healthcare.
Amazing Discussion. Look forward to more of these
Nitin ji, these are bunch of yes men who are happy to agree with the “party” line. Please invite someone who has a contradictory opinion next time.
Abrogation of 370 and then india got to redraw boundary into ladakh, where no boundary ever existed. China taught India lesson about cartographical agression, as explained by real expert Praveen Sawhney,
@@brightcamp4091 No I don't agree with Mr. Sawhney, Chinese "teaching Indian a lesson" is extends back to 2012, well before the Modi government.
@@barneylinux this is a llesson on cartographic agression. Do you know what it means?
you can also china taught india a lesson in1962, but it is not about cartographical agression.
you don't agreed?
Congratulations for this superb discussion
It is clear as sky India become the darling of western racists after the Galwan issue.
Iconic comprehensive conversation among lucrative panelists..#Jai Hind ❤❤❤
Fantastic panelists and good interviewing skill displayed by Nitin and Surya, no talking over the guests, letting the guests complete their thought process.
Sir really I'm in starting of this podcast and I'm feeling very connected with your communication skills and very clear point point discussion with experts. Thank you so much for providing kind of knowledgeable podcast to us 🙏🏻❤

why chinese? we have real expert in India, not the rubbish panel here. Check out Praveen sawhney. abrogation of 370 and then india got to redraw boundary into ladakh, where no boundary ever existed. China taught India lesson about cartographical agression,

@brightcamp4091 LOL Praveen Sawhney and his credibility as someone fired from army, funded by dubious foreign sources, strongly anti-bjp and pro-congress, wrote in his own magazine and that is to be sacrosanct. Interesting..
A very informative and comprehensive discussion by elites on the subject. Thanks stratnews.

Well come Nitin ji
Very bold and extraordinary panel about Chinese .
Surya ,Nitin and all panelist were agreed that no more lession needed, with fithing China never captured our tartory.we are well prepared , well alert.thanks for discussing on my favourite topic.
Very informative and learned discussion. Well done strat team
Thank you for sharing knowledge and wisdom
Very interesting conversation. Thank you for bringing several different voices to enlighten this issue.
Few points of order - General public does not use 'he' when referring to Chinese PLA forces or China per say. Seems to me mostly military folks in India use such jargon. Why not use "they" or China as a better placeholder for "enemy forces".
Kindly include the high definition maps when it comes to addressing China related border issues. Maps help tremendously when these experts are talking about difficult terrain at LAC. Using simple graphics is a much needed feature of any RUclips public outreach now .
Greetings from Atlanta 🙏🏽
go to real expert. Praveen sawhney of the force. these are junkies
superb conversation , very informative
go meet real expert instead of listening to rubbish explanations. check out praveen sawhney
Painful to hear these bullshit

Namaste! 🙏 Thank you for the information! The channel has a very impressive representation of opinions, deep analytics, and is a powerful media tool, designed to expand the futuristic frontieres. Please, develop. 🤝
Adoption and implementation of an integrated command and control was the major fallout of Galwan episode. A little misnomer to describe, Galwan was the blessing in disguise. India woke up to greater possibilities of two-front war. Therefore, major thrust to defense manufacturing and deployment is being provided. Faster implementation of each defense initiative is the positive outcome of Galwan
This person has dominated the conversation
Brilliant .
New set of eyes, brain storming
multi dimensional strategies with focus and emphasis on external and internal security
Srikanth sir amazing
Very nice and educative discussion, hopefully the government listens and sees the bluff of china.
Nice one nitin as always🎉🎉🎉🎉

Yes India can import moon and Mars too as India next U.S.
With All Due Respect , Respected Stratnewsglobal , A Small Request If You Could Make Roundtable Discussion With Live QnA As It Used To Be On " Talking Point " With Mr Amitabh P. Revi Sir , Would Really Appreciate If It Happens.........👍
Abrogation of 370 and balakot made them understand that pakistan can no longer be their proxy to keep India tied down. In top of that came donglang. Therefore they had to di it themselves. That is the main reason behind this attack. Probably they did not anticipate this prolonged Indian deployment.
almost right half way, abrogation of 370 and then india got to redraw boundary into ladakh, where no boundary ever existed. China taught India lesson about cartographical agression, as explained by real expert Praveen Sawhney,
Great discussion. Please do more vital countries for us like USA, Japan, Australia, Europe and Pakistan 😅
We hope what we call this special programme will not refurbish whats in the minds of indian military strategist mind for adversaries to preplan further fox moves in days to come. Is there any such programmes being conducted on the other sides? Just precaution.
The only way we can fight Chinese imports is by reducing the cost of production by removing regulations and taxes by lowering the cost of governance by reducing the number of government servants.
Dominance replica can be seen just on your side? 6:56
The forum about India China relation with one sided input most likely comes to unbalanced conclusion.
😂I have to say none of them are experts on China.
What's straitgy trust ?
Give India economic data also...why one way ? Dont quote governments data.. now. Its laughable
No one being this kind of group together!!
Nice discussion... Emphasis on Actions and less talk for political clout.. enough of 1962.. time to focus on Post-Galwan diplomacy
Wry informative
Good decision well done
super panel
I think the border conflict between India and China is being overinterpreted. They are both nuclear powers, and if their conflict is limited to cold weapons, it is actually peaceful and is more like a conflict between two groups of people rather than between two countries.
But, both China and India have risen under leaders who leverage nationalistic sentiments to rally their people.Even if both governments are very restrained but neither wants to show weakness.
Nice seaters.
Gokhale sir is very good
Modi had met Xi 18 times prior to galwan clash of 2020 and they have discussed everything under the sun.
But there is no news of them discussing crucial border issues
Praveen Sawhney deduced that Modi refus4d to discuss it, eventhough Xi tried many times. For details go to his channel
@@brightcamp4091 which video? I had watched many of his videos. There is no such video Xi telling he wants to resolve the border issues.
May be it is in your dream 😂
@Red.bulldozer3 Like most south asians, you have poor SEARCH skill . It is Pravin's video. I don't think I eever seen Xi's video. He got time to make video. Think about
shittyt brain, it is pravin's, not Xi's video. All Xi's video you watched are fake. I never know any sitting head of states/nations spent time making videos
"Praveen Sawhney deduced that Modi refus4d to....." DO you know what it mean?
If your neighbor tries to bully you whenever according to his convenience and advantages and there are no REPERCUSSIONS, it is eminent that he will try again. You have to convince yourself and your enemies that you will go down to any level to maintain your respectability and Position.
None of the participants have correct knowledge of India-China border dispute. It is the Indian side violated the line of control at Galvan, and went 12 kms crossing the LOC.
Are you picking up some stories from thin air😂
Please come with real ID you seems to be from the other side of border with such mindset 👀🤔😅
Yes! In fact, India often breaks contracts.
With respect, where do you get your correct information? 12kms in side Chinese territory ? Does someone call you on the phone?
That border line is called LAC not LOC🙄. So all ur statement goes down with ur lack of basic knowledge 👎👎
How many of you have read the 1996 agreement with China? It is a very well-taught agreement. This Agreement strategically advantages to India. In Arunachal Pradesh, there was a problem with the supply to the Indian army. That problem has been solved by constructing a tunnel. Before 1962 the Himalayas and the Passes were all no man-land. The Indian army officers and soldiers were not conversant with beaten tracks connected with the main roads, particularly in the NEFA area. "The Himalayas constitutes an imposing crescent-shaped mountain range extending for over 2500 km from the south of the Indus Valley beyond Nanga Parbat in the west to Namcha Barwa in the east (Fig. 17.1). The range varies in width from 350 km in the west to 150 km in the east". To feed the PLA the Chinese Govt, their vehicles should cross the Himalayas Passes covering 150 to 350 Km of inhospitable and dangerous terrain. So, the Indian Govt is not worried about the Chinese presence in the Himalayas. Otherwise, Indian Govt. has to protect 18 Passes in the Himalayas.
Mr, You have to be discreet about defence areas.
Excellent alround analysis . Isn't there a way to sensitise our traders who buy all sorts of unnecessary stuff from ch9na!!! Are our so insensitive to our security concerns??? Lookforward for more such videos ❤
CHINA'S aim & objective was to trade of Aksai- Chin with Arunachal. They captured Aksai-Chin with Russian on board, as they were very keen to connect Xinjiang with Tibet, besides minerals. As Nehru's India was ignorant of the construction of the Road, and believed Chinees leaders.Indian leadership was not educated enough about geopolitics of the area. Why U.S will help after refusal to become their partner. They shifted their stand beyond Aksai- chin towards West to check Indian build up in Depsang Plateau.
Please remember our EAM Jaishankar's famous's words that relations with China would not be normal unless there is peace and tranquility on the border ie Indo Tibetan border illegally occupied by China
Agree with Ranaday sir, BYD has to be blocked!!
india can never have BYD, even it wanted to. Not enought volume to make infrastruture viable
@@brightcamp4091 BYD is already in india and it is good , if BYD thinks that India doesn’t have enough volumes.
@ajayraina8478 You need volume so charging stations can be economical and extensive. Yes, Delhi is ordering Electric buses from USA, after China refused to sell.
This is no good. lost opportunity to get free buses by non paying, but have to pay triple amount for buses from USA. However, it save Delhi from using China technology and make air cleaner in delhi
You can always block the goods as you want. International companies is watching.
See their characteristics; no compunction to tread on other's land and stubbornly hold on. Western concepts of niceties don't work with them. They respect power and strength.
excellent, excellent, excellent discussion. nice to see all the experts on one platform.
rubbish
Is there any genuine policy goal related to regain lost from china and Pakistan. Indian govt is very scattered
We should become manufacturing powerhouse
Our biggest trading partner still is China with a huge bias in their favour. ☹️Till this situation is sorted out , they shall continue to have an upper hand.
What are india's long range strike capabilities in case of war
Need not be discussed here
none
Praveen sawhney "only 72 hours for india to lose war with China" His book "The last War". last is because there won't be india any more. Not because china take control. it is because India is a fragile glass, and that will crack it

Sir, these umbrellas , lamp shades are good, but govt. Of India needs to intervene, as these guys who make it in India ( are charging exuberantly), these factories and organisations cannot charge exuberantly ( 30-40 %) maybe ok on some items, but we cannot have people looting in the name of “ make in India”.
Be prepared for all out and everything 😮😮😮
So be it 🤔
Huge blunder in Ladakh . We left LAC unguarded . Chinese just walked in . What a goof up !!
What market??? How about tackling poverty???
What happened in Galwan? How 20 Jawans died there? The truth!
It’s cuz of article 370 and making union territory of Ladhak
China is indias baap
asli account se ao abdul.
India lost 50-60 years of time thinking hindi chini bhai bhai🤔.Just imagine former defence minister during UPA government said that what is the use of construction of border infrastructures china will used them to invade india and this statement was given in parliament which showed the seriousness of national security. But we are fortunate to have Modi ji who has been doing tremendous job in national security issues, border infrastructures even in remote areas.Thank you for having this talk with national security think tanks and we need such talks quite often👀🤔🙏
