I ordered my Mini with the FlyMore package. Great review, as always. Although I do disagree with your battery charger assessment. I feel it very advantageous to fully charge the battery with the highest remaining charge in it first. This will allow that battery to be rapidly charged so you can get back out flying. Then while you are flying it will sequentially charge the remaining batteries first with the highest remaining charge and then the third battery with the lowest charge. To divert all of the charging power to all three batteries would delay the ability to get back in the air.

    • @TheRcSaylors

Gggrrr... I dont think people are getting what I'm saying.. it takes this stupid charger over an hour to "rapidly" charge one battery at a time, whereas the Spark battery can charge all three at once at the same speed despite how many are plugged in. Sorry to sound annoyed, I'm just unable to explain myself very clearly I guess.

Hey guys love your channel and reviews. I’m just a little confused you mentioned the$500 price tag and a few negative comments. I just re watched you spark review ( which you claim as your favourite DJI drone) and the cost for that (fly More Combo) was $700.
From what I can tell $500 seems like a bargain longer flight time,3 axis gimbal, foldable,2.4k video,249 grams. Not to mention the quietness. All suggest the mini has more bang for bucks.
Would love to see you guys do a side by side comparison

I normally like your videos, and have been watching for a long time. However, the DJI Spark fly more combo charger, does not charge all three batteries in an hour. The Spark Batteries also only last about 10-13 minutes max.
Out of the box, it took my Mini batteries 3 hours and 58 minutes to charge. Since the initial charge, they haven't taken nearly as long to charge. That seemed excessive to me also, but I'm also getting double the flying time out of my Mini than I did my spark.
I don't know what your range issues are caused by, but they aren't normal here in the states. I actually get much better signal strength with my Mini than I ever got out of my Spark during it's 100 flights. It even rivals my Mavic Air for video feed.

People look for different things. That being said, I spoke to a guy recently about this drone, and he's a guy who flies a lot, and have a significant "stash" of DJI drones. Here's the interesting part, and what is as a bit of a big issue. What he say is that, none of them are the same. What he means by that is that he often sees that one works perfectly, while another has range issues etc. He has four Mavic Pros, and none of them are exactly the same - one of them was really bad, but nobody could explain why.
So it looks like DJI has one of the worst issues any manufacture of any kind of consumer product can have, which is inconsistency. Inconsistency is about as bif of a problem you can have, because it shows that there's basic issues with the entire manufacturing process, quality control and R&D.
So for what it's worth, I think this review, and your experience with batteries etc. is just a result of that.

Thank you for your honest opinion and that is what everyone should expect. I have read through the comments and find the "bashing" of your review a little overboard. In the end you say 90% was good so hopefully some of the negative points DJI will address in future updates. I have ordered the Mini and coming from only owning a Syma X8 things like battery charging, weight, obstacle avoidance, and flaws in quick shot recording will still be a huge improvement for me. Range & signal loss should not be as much an issue for me as my time will mostly be spent as a weekend ‘park & backyard’ warrior with my grandchildren. I appreciate pointing out things like the joysticks as now I will be aware and very thankful know. I do hope you get another chance to fly the Mini after firmware updates to see if some of the operational issues have been corrected. I still haven't owned my own DJI, and am thinking seriously about the Mini for my first purchase. The range is a big dealbreaker for me, for I have had most of my quads with 1/4 -1/2 mile, but for my photography ideals need to go way further. The charger is a huge deal to me as well, I learned from your video this is a step back for DJI, and have read other negative reviews on charging. I'm like you with batteries, I charge them and use them every day, who wants to wait all day to fly. I also like how you describe the cut back in software functions, that dont way anything, yet no avoidance system, no occui sync which shows in your range of only 475meters! None of them have charged all 3 or 4 batteries at the same time., I also have a Phantom 4 pro V2.0 with DJI multi charging hub and a Mavic 2 Pro with a fly more combo but I have yet to test them charging multiple batteries on their respective chargers but I suspect they will operate the same, charging batteries in sequence.

I LOVE the charger, since it prioritizes the most charged battery and quick charges it in order to get you back up in the air with 100% as fast as possible, then you can pull that battery and start flying while the other two keep charging. All DJI chargers that I’ve had only charge one battery at at time. Most USB ports don’t deliver enough current to charge 3-4 batteries simultaneously. That would require a bigger charge system likely requiring a cooling fan which would be more expensive. There have been 3rd party alternatives tho.

    • @TheRcSaylors

Fair enough, however the Spark, which is now 2.5 years old (getting old for technology sadly) does in fact charge all batteries at once, without throttling the charge rate. Example: you can charge one Spark battery or three Spark batteries and they will charge at the same speed, and at the same time. It's a shame, in our opinions that DJI took this shortcut. It's only a fairly minor annoyance, but one that shouldnt have come at the cost of the consumer. 👍⚓😎

    • @TheRcSaylors

Hey Scott, while your statement is true of SOME of DJIs drones, that is not true of all of them. The Spark for example does charge all at one time, and all under an hour, not prioritizing a single battery. We know this from first hand experience as I've charged those batteries probably over 100 times now. We love our Spark! Sadly, DJI has taken a step back in quality, at least with their charger. At that price, we think the consumer should be getting more bang for their buck. However this is just our opinion and we dont want to take away from your overall view of this drone. Coming from us, who have flown close to 1000 drones, we simply arent seeing anything all that impressive. The MM isnt doing anything that other drones cant do, for much cheaper (besides weight). Most newer high end phones like Iphone, Samsung Galaxy will run the required app. I had to cancel my order for the Mavic because I have a LG X Power and it will not even install the application let alone run it. The problem was that DJI did not communicate very well that you could get it at best buy on the 11th. Is Qualcomm quick charger compatible! That means it charges the battery is very very rapidly but it also means you can't charge multiple batteries at the same time since voltage and amperage varies based on battery state
Trust me in the end you charge faster by doing serial charging with Qualcomm quick charge rather than parallel charging at regular charge rates
A couple of things I do not like first I hate the micro USB I really wish they went with USBC second I wish the controller use the same battery pack as the Drone that would have been very handy and made charging a lot easier I also wish the controller did not attempt to charge my phone since my phone has a much bigger battery than the controller it doesn't need it and it needlessly drains the controller in fact I wish I could have my phone charge the controller

No Freddy, just flew this stock. I think (after having flown nearly 1,000 drones and helping people in the hobby) most people that buy this would at the very least fly this for their first handful of times on the same settings. Thanks for tuning in 👍⚓😎

My mavic air has a charger that also charges one at a time. I didn't notice at first, but that's definitely what it's doing.

me too. It first checks all 3 batteries, then charges one first.

Oh yeah i'm definitely loving this little one. Will it replace my Spark in my fleet?, No. An add too i would say. Great test review video guys, and love your style of reviews. Thanks again and i look forward to more on the DJI Mavic Mini! Cheers :)

You've been flying drones for years but you don't use a takeoff/landing pad? I would think you would especially with drones like the mini that can easily get grass or sand sucked in to the props.

Weve been flying drones for years and do so properly so never have grass and things get into the motors as suggested. Therefore we do not carry around a large folding pad. We do own them, and see their purpose and have no disrespect for people that enjoy using them. But we do not go around telling people that do use them they are doing it wrong. If it were a necessity DJI would include it in their bundles 😉👍 Fly safe and enjoy life. Thanks for tuning in ⚓😎

Not sure about charging DJI batteries but wouldn't charging one at a time increase total up time. If it takes 30 minutes to charge 3 batteries all at once wouldn't you rather have one battery charged and usable every 10 minutes instead of 3 batteries with 1/3 of a charge? Maybe too simplistic a view on battery charging.

No, the Spark charger doesnt slow down the juice going to each battery if charging more than one. Plus, if that logic were true you could just chose to charge one at a time. This is a pathetically slow charger. DJI took the low road on this one.

Do you think it would be good for recording rc dirt oval races?
