Imprecise Birds

- A rainbow of birds is flying in a hyperbolic manifold. Each one flies in a straight line, and initially, they form a tight single file.
However, because of numerical precision errors, they quickly end up flying all over the place.
This is because of negative curvature: when two birds fly "parallel" with a short distance between them, new space grows exponentially between them.
0:00 The video start 20s after the start of the simulation -- you need only this much time for the birds to scatter (in the current implementation of RogueViz engine).
0:20 the same animation on a "hypersian rug" (which shows the negative curvature)
0:40 a three-dimesional version -- unfortunately it is more difficult to see what's going on here

still waiting for the competetive noneuclidean real-Time-Strategy game, where most units just get lost in space forever.
Hyperbolic planetside 2 when?
This could actually work if spawn rate was ridiculously high. Kind of morbid too, you send out tons of units knowing 95% of them will get lost and die alone, stranded. But that's just warfare in that world.
Beautiful. I really like how the 3d version starts to look like complete chaos.
god i love music sync
It's amazing how they go from "all together" to "chaos" in a few seconds
I would love to see an implementation of boids in a hyperbolic manifold like this. I'm curious to see if the negative curvature prevents the formation of flocks or not!
We have actually tried this in Nov 2018, look for "hyperbolic boids" or "birds in hyperbolic space". It should be also playable in zenorogue.itch.io/rogueviz
I guess you could call it...
HyperBOIDs!
Chaos videos seem to be a trend among some math youtubers now (or maybe I'm just getting a lot of recommended videos about it)
An idea for the next video could be a Mandelbrot zoom inside a hyperbolic cylinder, because moving in hyperbolic geometry looks like zooming.
ç
Lol the music goes so well with it
Application of the chaos theory.
Very nice
Your vids are Amazing >>> Thank You!
why is the music so good though
Still fun to watch. Looks like a nice firework.
Nice.
when the birds is weird
my adhd brain likes this
this seems like more of a bug than a feature
Well in hyperbolic space, being even a short distance away from someone would cause you to go farther away exponentially.
God bless.
The music is almost synced.
birds of non precision
You should add music to videos more often!
are the birds ACTUALLY microscopic distances from each other, or is it just 'rounding errors' or something?
No "microscopic distances" are intentionally programmed, but they appear because of rounding errors.
Those birds ate a Mario's superstar.
*invincible candy starts playing* wait. That's the wrong song.
what foolish birds
