    • @JaredConnell

Whenever I get something new I leave the plastic on for as long as I can. That delayed satisfaction is sooo nice. Especially when I realize weeks or months later that I forgot and I finally get to peel it off. It keeps it looking nice for longer and lets me enjoy the feeling of a new product long after I've bought it. Now mind you it usually lasts a few hours to days at most but sometimes the protective plastic cover stays on for quite a while. Not as long as the remote in this video though lol

The pre-amp display is known to go blank, but it is just a 50 pence capacitor that needs replacing inside as I fixed 2 of them after finding this out ;) They're lovely-looking stereos, with the only fault being the slow-acting volume knob.

Wonderful video. I cannot express how much understanding I have for every single second of it. Your videos encouraged me to take action and boldly solve a problem most normal people just ignore: some music I like tends to disappear from the internet. So I decided to save it the old skool way like I always imagined it should be done - on minidisc! I never actually had one in it’s heyday but since I’m older and I can afford it now I thought: why the hell not. Minidisc are cute and colorful, the source is compressed anyway. I was also looking for a slightly better pair of speakers for my PC so before actually ordering a pair of decent monitors - why not take a look at the 00’s bookshelf hifi? And so I did. I found one by accident that was kinda broken but dirt cheap and just went for it thinking - it’s a good start of a quest for something better. I wasn’t afraid of repairing it myself obviously because it was dirt cheap. After two weeks of taking it apart and putting it together again I managed to fix every issue so now I had a placeholder micro hifi to play (and save by recording record) some music while looking for a better and more advanced system - maybe even from Japan! It took me a few months of tracking the ebay to come to a bitter sweet conclusion: there were no better systems than the one I bought dirt cheap almost by accident (cmt100md). Every other system I found is plagued with way more issues and by any mean even more frustrating to use nowadays. The worst part is I was really looking forward to enjoy the quest inspired by your videos to find myself the best hifi of it’s day. I know it saved me from having a closet full of old hifis I never use but the quest... oh I know it's stupid but I still think it would have been a wonderful and pointless waste of time and money :)

Just thinking of all those people who were (or still are) convinced that a certain "sound mode" was/is how music should actually sound like, and then be really enthusiastic or even get annoyed or mad if you're trying to convince them otherwise.
Just a year ago, I went to this couple's place, whom I had never met before, with a friend. At pretty early stage I noticed that the rear speakers of his home theater system were trying to output some music but it sounded like severely mashed up, distorted bits and broken compression algorithms. And once I noticed that, I tried to listen to the front speakers and they didn't sound much better. At some point I decided to fiddle with the remote and found a basic "stereo" mode. Then the system (with some pretty expensive looking main speakers) started sounding like they were actually playing music (without the surround speakers).
Fast forward a bit and I hear the dude raising his voice about someone making changes on his receiver. Yeah, ok, I get it, I'd be pissed too if someone changed my settings, but only if they were some actually measured/set up room corrections that really took me time and not just some idiotic "dolby pro logic" or "BBE level +5" nonsense. I think his receiver was one of those very basic integrated home theater amps... Even though the dude seemed like he is in to hifi more than average, as there was another pair of floor speakers in the "hallway" of the apartment.

Having the dual audio mode would have been my killer feature for me in the 90's. I would have wanted to plug this into my TV/video game setup, so I could play games while listening to my own soundtrack instead of some highly repetitive ones. I eventually solved this with passive Y RCA cables, RCA to headphone jack adaptors, and finally a laptop with a loopback extension to monitor the live input. A hardware solution, would have been an amazing option, especially if it included switching for both A and B channels.
Having two music streams obviously becomes discordant, but I could also imagine playing soothing music during news radio or other talk-only content, as I presently will play music mixed into my headphones during an otherwise boring company meeting while I am work-from-home.

I don't really know exactly why but I feel like I should be slightly annoyed by your over-produced videos about things only I may care about, but they are just so awesomely done and the items are so cool that I can't help loving them and appreciating your time and work.. :D Cheers man. Don't stop.

I’m so glad I found this channel! Your humour is brilliant! 😅 I’m from the era of drooling over these gadgets, dreaming of having the money to buy them. My friend bought the previous system to this I think, used the Dolby surround sound with a laser disk player! And a Sony widescreen CRT TV.

Ask any collector and they'll tell you their taste is not for the masses. Even though I'm not knowledgeable about this topic, I know these are some very special audio systems. Then again, none of them is an overpriced 50k speaker 😉. It matters not however. Your passion and joy are conveyed very well. And that's what we enjoy here. Being pulled into something we don't necessarily care about, but in a manner we can't resist.
I've also recently acquired an outdated micro stereo system. It's capable of recording to USB. Something barely anyone even knows was possible for a short period of time in history.

It's been the most beautifullest and soul-calming thing I've had for a while, and I'm talking about watching this video.
(I tried to like-click the video 16 times a second but I'm afraid it still did count only as one like...)

I know times have moved on, but I still totally and untterly adore these old hifi systems. Nothing, in my opinion, can beat the sound of a couple of decent speakers and a decent stereo. A room full of sound is much better than an 'area' of sound which is what a lot of people get with their smart speaker. Brilliant video as usual, thank you 🙂
