It's great that these two men can live in this container together in this day and age. We have come very far as a civilisation. Much respect to you two gentlemen and I wish you every success in your relationship.
This is a well thought out and beautiful home. The fact that it is also designed so that it can easily connect to utilities such as water, electricity etc is an added bonus.
Ikr. It's a bad idea especially if you have entertainment equipment or items under the TV. You'd have to remove them everytime you need to access your clothes.
David I think he needs to attach compartments to the inside of structure with metal swivel brackets....to just pull out like an old flour bin used to be. would need to remove front large square of structure and put hardware handle on compartments or drill circle holes to open drawer/bin/compartment.
Thanks for watching 🙂 I think you might be able to build something like this for cheaper if you do everything yourself. But not everyone has the time or the skills. In the case of this container you're paying for all the materials but also for the labor.
If there's enough room to stand between it and the bed then there's enough room for those short drawers to be pulled out... Even more because turning it into draws requires less space than the box design does and it can be built/connected to the wall instead of being just in front of it.
My thoughts exactly. The rest is very well designed, they just let themselves get too artsy-fartsy there. I'm essentially a lazy person, the fewer steps involved to do something the better. With that in mind, the bed is not bad but, i'm dubious of the comfort with the position of the joint.
I was thinking side sliding doors would be a better option, since they won't take up any extra space. You know the ones, that one slides behind the other to reveal what's inside.
Right? And if you added more wood to the top of it, with hinges, it could fold/slide out to become a full-size table instead of using the cart thing. And the window next to the couch is nice, but there's just so much un-utilized space here.
*Finally!!* someone's built the floor plan I've been dreamin' of.. i'd personally go with a captains bed, raised to the level of the kitchen counter with pull out draws and a ladder, but this works just as well.. just awesome..
Wow ..this really is the future..I went to the carribbean a few years ago and saw alot of these houses and loved them..Fantastic Guys really beautiful place..Blessings be safe everyone 🌱
ok, did they make the bed or was it bought ready made with these features? perhaps make the storage under the t.v. taller and deeper, for more storage? just a thought. the rolling cart, why not make a removable top for storage underneath?
Every shipping container video I look at, the bathroom takes up most of the space. It's already tiny enough as it is and the have a wall in the middle that takes up even more space.
Great utilization of the space, I personally would add another container as making up the bed every night would drive my crazy! I need more closet space and not be so close to the tv. I feel like a lot of these homes don't have comfortable looking lounge areas.
This is one of my favorite tiny homes, and I've seen hundreds of them. I prefer tiny houses without a loft. The design is great, it sounds like they didn't skimp on the insulation, so it'll work in any climate. I prefer a mini-split for HVAC, but their unit fits this tiny house nicely. As long as that couch/bed area is comfy I'm sold! :)
Not certain about the points made but ,if anyone else wants to discover shipping container home plans try Skyarza Container Home Star (should be on google have a look ) ? Ive heard some amazing things about it and my work buddy got amazing results with it.
Right, that's what we want to know and that is the reason we consider a Tiny House... for the price. Not 40.000 dollars. We might as well buy a normal house.
Really cool. I was working near the port and always when I saw containers like this I was wondering if that could be transformed in houses for those people that don't have money to buy a regular one and I think when I saw this video made my day to see that my idea was not that crazy. Actually this container is really cool and fancy, but this idea could be manageable to build houses in Brazil or Africa for example, could even combine them to bigger families creating nice villages I guess !?!? :-)
It looks smaller on the outside; I never would have figured there was a decent kitchen area and a bathroom the size of what you'd get in most city apartments. I like the vessel sink (and always wondered about the technical name for basins that sit on the surface of the vanity).
I thought that there would be storage in the bathroom, but nope! But you're right, there's definitely space in there left to play around and customize storage needs!
I was so thinking the same thing. Add a Pod or schucks can you just imagine what two 20ft containers like this one side by side would look like!!! Super nice!
Wow, man, and like far out cool. The "actually" per minute was over the top, but I really appreciated the "cool" use and the "pallet wood" repetition. Two thumbs up from a fellow millennial!
Storage container homes are nicely done when they are the full 40x8.5 size. The downside to this concept is land to put it on. Most cities do not want people to live in nontraditional housing. So when you buy one of these and ask the city for a permit to put it on empty lit between stick-built homes you will get rejected. For this to even work builders need to develop a community made for these homes. Much like an RV park.
Scruffy McHaggis And that's why there are so many different designs. A lot of people don't want their sleeping area anywhere near the kitchen. Some people don't want the kitchen anywhere near the bathroom. I think, when we're talking about a place this small, everything is close to everything else anyway, so a matter of a few feet more or less doesn't make any difference to me.
Thanks Forrest🙂👍🏻 We actually did this video in collaboration with Tony and Chris and I believe they're using the Ikan Beholder...I could be wrong.. I personally have the Zhiyun Crane. The results can be pretty awesome but I have to say, setting it up to use with different cameras and lenses can be kind of annoying 😁 Thanks for checking out the video😀
Beautiful job! i am currently working on 4 tiny homes verry helpful ideas! we need more tiny homes and affordable housing less is better! Lve Tiny ! thanks for awesome video
That's the whole point. When someone does the work themselves they save a ton of money, but when you hire contractors to do the work it gets more expensive. I watched another video of a 40 foot shipping container conversion. The total cost was about $15K, but they did 90% of the work themselves.
That TV would be nicer to be a bit lower and also I don't know how smart it is to have it so close to the heater. Blowing hot air directly into TV can't be a good thing.
Now that's a joke, a brand new 5th wheel of good build quality can be over $135,000.... So the only way you got one for a lot less is if it's either junk or old and depreciated. Even a camper like an Airstream Basecamp starts at just under $40,000 and can go over $47,000... Never mind their motorhomes like the Airstream Atlas Class B+ is over $217,000 and it can't even be used in a freezing cold winter climate! But unlike most RV's an Airstream is actually built pretty well and won't depreciate rapidly. To show that build quality does matter in costs... Never mind your 5th wheel isn't designed like a house so it has little to no insulation and you're spending more on heating and cooling and will spend more on repair and maintenance over the years. Unless it's a heavily depreciated model then you will have the rubber roofs that are prone to leaking and will cost you over time. Along with lots of laminated materials that will eventually delaminate... It's the 5th wheels that are over $135,000 that give you the all fiberglass exteriors, greater storage capacities, good quality steps and other accessories, the good floor plan layouts, the non-cheap tires and axles barely rated for a decent GVWR, which you especially need for the toy haulers and multiple slide outs... But you can always sell it for less than you bought it for and at least you're not heavily invested in it but don't confuse what you have with an actual house!
The point of using a shipping container is federal law prohibits it from being taxed. Municipalities are catching up to the "tinyhouse" trend of building on a trailer to avoid taxes... But I'm wondering if they will be able to circumvent this? What do you think?
Cheap is relative to what you get for the price... A lower cost container would lack things like good insulation and you'd be basically living in a metal box, which wouldn't be good if you don't also live in a place where it never gets too hot or too cold... Though, on the low end they can be around $15K but they built this to handle most climate zones and it includes all the furnishings and appliances for the list price... You'd actually pay more for many things that aren't meant to be used as a home... Like a Airstream Basecamp is just a 16' camper but it starts around $40,000 and goes up to over $47,000... and there are other campers in the $30K range... Going a lot less is where the old and depreciated models can be found... But those can be an option if you can't afford anything newer and some can be in pretty good shape if the previous owner maintained them well... While you may consider building one yourself as another way to keep the price really low and is how many people manage to get the price even under $10K when building their own Tiny House... But paying other people to do it and provide a brand new anything that may also be custom designed to your specifications can cost a lot more...
Where did you find the couch and I hope you have a dehumidifier bc I have a 40 ft container home and it’s insulated well but the thing gets so hot and the ceiling in the bathroom had red and black mold and mildew in it in a matter of 3-5 months and had to be completely removed, insulation and all, and replaced. It has central heat & AC as well. The thing gets so hot in heat though...It started out as just the idea of having a bathroom & shelter on weekends when working on undeveloped property, and snowballed into a living room, kitchen, nice size bed & bathroom, central h&ac w/ no loft needed! Oh and we have a decent size front porch on the end where doors open into living room and most people are shocked bc it’s nicer than a lot of people’s apartment or home. We only have lower cabinets around the sink and have a full-size glass top stove/oven that we used from our house once we upgraded and got a newer one for the house. The container house is hooked up to city water and electric on the property bc previous owners had a trailer set up out there. P.S. for having it brought to our house, building out, then relocating to our undeveloped property was ALL WAY less $$ than it cost these people to pay someone else to build it

First things first this is an amazing build totally well thought out. I know the major concern is the pricing but i feel like you guys had to go the extra mile to bring out the beauty and functionality of a 20ft container as one of the best alternative living spaces. Much love from Kenya maybe we could engage further in future projects etc
One of the best container homes I've seen! compact, elegant, a truly good design
Probably thee BEST 20ft container tiny home I've seen so far! From the colors to the windows, flower fixtures, and............flushing toilet!!!!
First off, before I even finish watching the video, I just want to say that the quality of the videos lately are superb! Keep it up!
Thanks so much for the positive feedback 👍🏻🙂

The sofa bed is brilliant! Great storage.
This is a well thought out and beautiful home. The fact that it is also designed so that it can easily connect to utilities such as water, electricity etc is an added bonus.
Looks nice except for the clothes storage area...would hate having to deconstruct and reassemble that every day to get dressed.
Ikr. It's a bad idea especially if you have entertainment equipment or items under the TV. You'd have to remove them everytime you need to access your clothes.

My initial reaction also. I think I'd want shelves with foldable Walmart bins on them. Much more user friendly.
This is probably one of the best tiny houses I've seen. So practical but also charming.
Great build, but 39k is WAY overpriced.
Thanks for watching 🙂 I think you might be able to build something like this for cheaper if you do everything yourself. But not everyone has the time or the skills. In the case of this container you're paying for all the materials but also for the labor.

Everything about the house is great. But for some reason the sofa bed was my favorite feature. Great job guys!!
CUbbie under tv could open from front so you can get to the drawers without having to take them all out to get to the bottom ones.

Why is the tv so high up? It should be eye level with the sofa.
Hey Nigel, thanks for the input! Something we'll definitely consider for future builds.
Agree
That an needs a bigger tv, take away that lil storage and make room for bigger tv
@@alternativelivingspaces lol
Why even bother to buy a tv in 2018. Just buy a picoprojector.
Blue is my favorite color. I absolutely love your cabinets. I love your color palette selection. I love how you did the storage areas.

Its pricey though, and most likely get an actual mobile home for a lot cheaper.

Typical, these people go WAYYYY over the top with "DECORATING".... Just make it functional, for under $8-$10,000

$39K???? Expensive for a container home. I know my country is cheap, but $39K would get you a 2 storey, 2 bedroom unit, 40 to 50 sqm.
That's cheap for me. A crapy apartment in California, 1 Bedroom, 1 Bathroom, $300K
Definitely my favourite tiny home for a single person
No washer/dryer.

Only 36k. If that's cheap I must be extremely poor
