    If anyone is looking to do this, make it with polymer clay instead of air dry clay, it'll be more durable and waterproof, it also won't buckle or bowe like the one in the video. Air dry shrinks when drying, polymerclay hardens in the oven. You also can seal it with a two part resin to make the surface waterproof and more durable, just make the wells a bit deeper since resin is thick.

    • @pinandinko1970
      @pinandinko1970  Год назад +5

      Hi! Totally agree that polymer clay is an option, you aren't wrong. I'm happy with my air dry clay palettes; they are still going strong. I will say that if anyone wants to use resin please do your research, it is a dangerous and toxic material to use, so lots of ventilation, a ventilator, goggles and gloves are needed.

    • @paulinemegson8519
      @paulinemegson8519 10 месяцев назад

      Polymer would probably be rather unpleasant to work with when painting because by its nature, it’s water resistant which means watercolours just bead up on the surface.

    I don't know why ALL air dry clay companies make the packaging so that you can't really close it again. It bothers me! What I did with my Raven palette is once the top was mostly touch dry, I flipped it over to let the other side dry. Might help with warping? It's currently summer in Australia and 35 to 40 degrees during the day and that definitely speeds things up. I was looking for that triple thick stuff but no joy. was sold out everywhere! It's so satisfying when you can create something useful that you'd use most days. That painting is just adorable and love all your other clay makes too!

    • @pinandinko1970
      @pinandinko1970  3 года назад +1

      Actually the Das one had a way to close it and I cut the wrong end! I must have sped through that part of the video when editing XD I did flip it when the top was dry, I wonder if it was the paper i had it on, as the ones drying on a chopping board did better, but they were smaller. Sorry the glaze is out of stock :( Must be something similar out there! Thanks for watching :) xxx

      Sorry for butting in! hehe I agree with the non-resealable packaging. I just use a ziplock bag with most air pushed out of it. Also, since you're in Australia, I discovered a product called Bondall Pot & Ornament Sealer for porous stuff like terracotta pots and ornaments. It helps make them water resistant as long as they are not submerged in water. It also helps increase surface hardness, reduces staining, algal and fungal growth. You can find them at Bunnings at the terracotta pots section. Haven't tried them on palettes but will have to give it a go soon since Melbourne is cool next week! No, not a paid promotion. lol! I also used DecoArt's Duraclear Ultra Gloss Glaze but I haven't tried them on palettes as I don't paint but I will have to give it a whirl!

    • @pinandinko1970
      @pinandinko1970  2 года назад +1

      Hey so best to clean them just after using them, if you let acrylic set for too long it isn't easy to get off. I have found wiping them down with a wet cloth cleans off most the paint, then you can run it under a tap for the rest. I haven't tried using them for water fully actually, I have a lot of little ceramic pots from etsy sellers I use for that. It might work but not sure!

    • @pinandinko1970
      @pinandinko1970  2 года назад +1

      Hi! Thanks so much for watching. Tbh if you are making a big flat item then it might bow a little depending on how thin the clay is, you can keep turning it as it dries to stop it from bowing in one spot but this is the joy of working with air drying clay! A small flat item shouldn't bow if you leave it to dry on a flat surface and then flip it when one side is dried.
