Did this with polymer clay. Baked, then coated with polycrylic, 2 coats. Works like a charm, in fact after my eldest absconded with my large cat palette, my bestie bought me more clay to make her 2 more. I made some stackable mixing dishes with a wonky, but doable lid. 🤷🏼♀️. The best part is they seem to be unbreakable!
The resin or varnish coating is so important, but you didn't tell anything about how to do it or even the materials your sister used. Good video up to that point.

In my experience while using this palette, watercolors from pan did not stain the palette much, but darker shades like phthalo blue did stain a bit. Also darker paint colors from tube leaves a little bit of stain....thanks for watching✌🏼

I have a question: will watercolor or gouache break down the resin as you use it, or will it hold up pretty well? (I would like to do this too, but just trying to figure out what is the best sealant for air dry clay pallets)
I have been using it from the day I made it, it is holding up well. I recently made palette using varnish coating too, but I have not used it for that long to tell you about the results.

I wonder if you can mod podge seal it? I got a wooden watercolor box set from target and it has a flimsy plastic palette on the top lid and I want to make my own crayola dry clay palette to insert and replace the plastic one
Thanks for subscribing..it means a lot✌🏼...the resin was put on by hands...she put on gloves and spread the resin evenly. You can also use synthetic brush to put the resin on
The watercolor seems to bead up a lot from what I see, unlike actually ceramic /porcelain palettes. Might as well use plastic palettes if that's the case.
I would say it's a fun project...the palette serves its purpose well and is a good aesthetic until you get yourself a porcelain/ceramic one...and as its made by us it holds a special place😊✌🏼

Ideally resin doesn’t work well but the varnish does for the proper pallets effect
Its upto us...but resin coating hasn't been a problem to me though...its working well..✌🏼

Can I only use a varnish for coating? I don't have any resin and don't know how to use them also. Really like the pallete! 😍💙
Yeah you can surely use varnish for coating your palette i have seen many people using it✌🏼

Air dry clay is not water resistant, to make it water resistant it is necessary that you coat it with either resin or varnish

Hi there very cool so before the resin can you use say water color paint to decorate your palette? Then resin and varnish?
I have not done it myself, but I have seen videos where watercolor is used on air dry clay for decorating it and then it is sealed
