If you die from a single drauger, use a superior resorection stone and die again from the same drauger Atreus will say "Youre not ready boy" in a mocking voice
There is also a reference from the 300. When Kratos and Atreus fight a swarm of Dark elves inside their hive (towards the end of the mission), Kratos says to Atreus that "a narrow path negates superior numbers". Pretty cool.
Even though it is loosely said in the movie, it is a common war strategy. Whether it is a reference or not, i believe half of these are just wishful thinking.
God Sens no it’s not specifically the god of war. The Greek omega means first and last. Meaning the Gods as a whole. The first and last. There to create everything and there after everything is gone. It’s not specifically for the God of War but more broadly the entire Greek pantheon

Atreus saying puny trol after Kratos kills one(pretty sure it was in Tyr's vault) . well Hulk said puny god to Loki in avengers. i though it was a clever reference.
Actually they reference the boat captain of the first god of war in a treasure map you can read a man saying his captain got eaten by the hydra and he came all the way to Midgard

I love all mythology and find it all extremely interesting but Egyptian is probably my favorite with Norse being my least favorite and I hope that they do an Egyptian trilogy after this one (assuming this will be a trilogy)
1:33 gonna show footage of a dialogue easter egg? Be sure to not have subtitles on, and definitely show footage where the un-subtitled line gets drowned out by that bell. Definitely.
I finished the game and I've been thinking about this (MAJOR spoilers ahead): The fact that Tyr's wall piece had the symbols from other cultures makes me think he actually was/is a god in all these different mythological backgrounds. You see the omega symbol in there, which is the Greek god of war so what I'm getting at is: What if Kratos is, in fact Tyr? I mean timelines are crazy in norse mythology and in the game too, given for example that Atreus/Loki is the father of the World Serpent (who even says to recognize him, impossible when we hear about it the first time but possible after we know who Atreus really is), and we learn that Tyr is a god of war that's humble and wise and seeks peace instead of war and no one knows where he is or what happened to him. So in this weird timeline Kratos could become Tyr and in the past protect the giants and so on. It's not that crazy of a theory if you analyze the mythology aspects the game included.
Sam MacCalla No man, he's Loki. And he just started the chain of events that leads to Ragnarok by killing Baldur, just like in the actual norse mythology. I'm so excited for the future games/DLCs :DD
The Infinity Gauntlet reference is awesome. If you upgrade the Shattered Gauntlet where it can fit 3 sockets and you put in 3 of the “[name’s] stones”, i.e. Ivaldi’s Corrupted Mind or Njord’s Temporal Stone, it will shoot a blast when you use it. It’s super interesting.
BREINO Incorporation God of War was always like that though. Every game had little easter eggs for those more familiar with Greek mythology that just was *really* badass. Seeing so much from Myth coming to life in these games was a real treat, and now it's passing on to Norse, Japanese, Mayan, Aztec (are those the same thing?), and so on.
My favorite was an acknowledgement of just how old Kratos is at this point. We know from the game that Tyr collected everything in his secret vault single handedly. AND we know that Tyr has been dead for at least a century as told by Mimir. This means that the fact that Tyr had a vase of Kratos when he was the Ghost of Sparta it tells us that Kratos is probably centuries old.
The Great And Powerful Trixie Kratos absorbed the soul of Hades meaning he can't die. Cory Barlog has even said this in multiple interviews. I'm not saying there won't be an asspull death scene, but by normal standards he is deathless.
If you have the collectors edition it gives you a physical map with runes on the outside translate those and you discover directions to brok and sindris treasure (which is why they hated each other) then translate runes hidden on the world serpent on the map and you find the coordinates to use the directions from earlier
Well i think that the troll under the bridge us a refrence to a Norwegian fariytale about tree goats crossing over the brigde, and then a troll comes up under the bridge to eat them..
I love Skyrim reference to that myth with two goats walking across the bridge then a third goat joins them from. Then if you look under the bridge you will see a dead troll.
Here’s an Easter egg there was an interview last year or the year before there was a rumor with the Cory in the voice actors of kratos where they thought the kids name was going to be Charlie and in the game the turtles where the witch lives on his name is Charlie lol
wait wait wait, wasn't number 8 one of Aesop's fables? he even referenced him before telling some of his stories periodically. Really nothing to do with the previous god of war plot man.
razor1493 I think it could be both, or maybe they're trying to imply kratos started that story because his origin and the fable are pretty close in certain details
Most of Kratos’ stories are from Aesop. He even says he knew a smart man that liked to tell these purposeful stories back from his homeland. The fact that the story of the Horse and the Stag is analogous to Kratos’ own story is a coincidence. They put it in for a reason, but the story already existed beforehand.
One of my favourite easter eggs is when you, mimir and atreus were in one of Tyr's vault. You smash some pots and Atreus goes "Yeah, he really likes smashing pots" and Mimir laughs. It's a reference back to the old GoW games where everything was in pots, and I had a good chuckle with it!
Best Easter egg for me, was in one of the scrolls you pick up that references back to the very first moment of the first game where the captain gets eaten by the hydra. Its been running gag throughout the series so im glad it made into this one as well
I love how Kratos has grounded a bit since the last games. The greatest thing with me so far is how he teaches his lessons to Atreus with the spirits so far and how Kratos still hates spirits and to this day does not still trust them.
This game has some serious attention to detail. In the beginning during combat, kratos always tells atrius that he sucks. But towards the end, he praises him.
I noticed that while playing too, I loved that. It made Atreus' journey all the more immersive. Its why I love the end with Baldur bc atreus is such a bad ass right along side kratos in those cut scenes.
God i love this game... i had no idea that lizard thing was actually killable in my 1st play through. But the 2nd time i got it. It doesnt matter how many times i play this game, i find something new. Now i keep finding new things to look at in photo mode. I was already learning norwegian through books and music, but this game really made me able to read and understand older tongue and icelandic.
favorite previous game reference is certainly when he breaks the pot he finds that has him on it. and unrelated to the previous sentence... i love when the game taps on the fourth wall with atreus saying, “you do love to break pottery.” knowing that all the players are smashing every pot we see, link style.
@gameranx Awesome video, but one nitpick. When Atreus was talking about The Norns, he was actually talking about the Norse versions of the Fates. The Norns wrote the fates of everyone in all the 9 realms.
Great stuff. I noticed a lot of these, but I have to say I had no idea your artifacts showed up on Brok and Sindri's shelves after selling them because I never sold a single one haha. I always said I'd sell them when I needed to and I just never did.
... Most of these "easter eggs" weren't really easter eggs, or were extremely obvious. Bio shock? Totally over analyzing xD. Can't believe you never the mentioned the Infinity Gauntlet or secret item unlocked by using a specific password in the Lake of Nine. *EDIT:* *I realize these EE's may not have been discovered at the time this video was posted, but maybe you should have waited more than 4 days after release before posting a click bait video. Still an entertaining video.*
The Bioshock one makes more sense if you call the game by its real name Dad of War, and if you notice Kratos is bigger than most normal men making him quite literally a Big Daddy.
yeah and he can also swim, like big daddy, and his..uh..arm..looks like a drill and..and..uh..uhhh.the kid! its like the girls in bioshock because..they're kid..
At or around the 7 minute mark, the talk about the different symbols of war on the tapestry and "what may come", I remember watching a thing about the development of GoW and how the original creator had a plan to not only play as Kratos but 2 other Gods of War from different pantheons. You would play all three characters and your actions in one mythos would effect the worlds of the others. They may have been referencing what might have been. Or not. Tyr was very interested in all things and trying to understand the other Gods of War may have been crucial to his beliefs.
One reference i found was within the Witches Sanctuary. When you are able to roam around the front area of the garden, the Runes that Atreus needs to read in order to complete the Sand Bowl puzzle, actually spell out the word "Pixar". Now i'm not sure if it's just a coincidence, but it's still pretty neat.
number 9 isnt a reference to the Greek fates. The Nordic fates, the nornir, were the ladies who weaved fate in norse mythology, which is a thing lots of people didnt realise
Gameranx, you do realize that Kratos' stories are about Greek stories by Plateo and Aesop right? That horse and stag story is almost entirely the Aesop story, the only difference they added (which might be partly homage) is the horse managed to have revenge at the end but the story really doesn't change as a result.
I loved that everyone raged that the chaos blades had disappeared. Yet they appeared and were absolutely amazing bringing back some of Kratos moves from the older games. I personally didn't play them but I watched my dad play the games when I was small, and the reveal got my blood pumping. I'm also super excited, seeing that there was no ending to the game, actually leaving Odin alive for another fight, and the acknowledgment of other gods, meaning we can branch off once more and, as said, fight some dog headed giants in the desert. I'm so incredibly happy that god of war was brought back and is now easily comparable to The Last of Us or Uncharted. On the reveal, I immediately went on a 3-hour refresher of what has happened in the older games.
I’ve just been playing back through the original Bioshock, and when I reached that hole in the wall in God of War I just instinctively thought “oh hey, there’s another hole, there must be a little sister around here somewhere... wait a minute, I’m playing God of War. Huh?”
Well in the end of Norse mythology when the world ends two people will escape unscathed from the world true; this directly ties into the Christianity as this was made to help convert pagans away from the Norse beliefs so after this it could go back to Egypt then back to probably Jesus. Imagine that: Jesus kicking ass yelling loudly: “THE POWER OF CHRIST COMPELS YOU”
Pifilix XIV but then again... it could be loved by them because it features Jesus as not only a savior, but a badass with muscles on muscles 💪. Who else doesn’t want that kind of exposure? Why all we need to do is add the pope and receive his blessing and boom! You’ll see Christians everywhere accept games and will no longer call video games evil!
Probably... But I feel like there will be some midquel between Greek and Norse saga (I feel like this one would the real end of Kratos)... maybe Egyptian?
I loved the reference to the clay pot in tyrs vault and then soon after kratos give aries the bottle of lemon alcohol and almost actually smiles it was adorable and such s good moment
Will he ever battle Hindu God's they are cool too I think I am not saying they exist or something like that I am just saying they are extremely powerful too
Not sure if it's on the list, but theres a part where Atreus says Kratos loves breaking pottery, which is a nod to the fact that you break a ton of pottery in previous games to get experience
Dev's already talked about not drowning this game with dlc so I'm not sure we're even getting any. They already looking at preproduction for a sequel though.
You guys missed the biggest of easter eggs...Artreus says the Turtle's name is Chaurlie, Which is the name people thought Artreus' name was going to be, was an interview or something and when they were asked what the kids name was they said charlie, or well they said charles but that is a nickname for charlie soooo. And someone of the team added that in as the name for the turtle which caught the director off guard when he got to that part, and he loved it.
Kratos says to Atreyu: you are not ready I think that’s a reference to ps1 ads that would show twisted metal and say U R Not e (the “e” was red) . Maybe I’m wrong, but that’s the way it sounded to me
I would say the cover of that book with the runes is also an Easter egg and hint at the ending. I won't say anything specific because spoilers, but the cover image has a very interesting overall shape.
Pifilix XIV then we do what the texans did when they hosted the "draw muhammad" contest. of any troublemakers show up we turn them into swiss cheese with lead!
I'm not sure about the hole itself, but according to Cory Barlog all of the weird yellow writing in the game was written by Faye. In fact, the painted all the markings around, such as spots to climb on. The implication being, she knew what was going to happen and specifically lead you everywhere on your journey.
The god of war symbols from different areas was a reference of tyre learning as mush as he could about war over time , then when cratos mentions his symbol it's forshowding the fact that he is/ will become Tyr . Loki is the farther of the world serpent and when they first woke him up he said he recognized atreus . And the fight with Ragnarok sent the world serpent back in time. So maybe when Thor comes at the end of the game it's to help him and the fight sends them all back in time. This would also make sense because mimr told cratos the long winter came to soon and prophecy wasn't counting on Kratos thus changing up the timeline a little bit.
What have you discovered?
gameranx there’s a small reference to some Norse gods if you listen closely
My Willy
I need to take a shit💩💩💩
gameranx when fight with giant in helheim.. there were big white monster hang out on the background..
That I can't feel.
Mimir: " zeus was your father, i understand now! Im dangling from the bloody hip of the ghost of sparta!" My favorite reference
Less a reference and more just tying the games together.
"Mimir! Of the great bifrost teats!"
"Do NOT call me that!"
That part gave me chills
I don't think he said that
If you die from a single drauger, use a superior resorection stone and die again from the same drauger Atreus will say "Youre not ready boy" in a mocking voice

I bet you learned that the hard way lol
I got that from letting my brother play. I let him fight a realm tear, and he died twice using the res stone
Martin Anthonyo Have to try this out. I forgot res stones are even a think right after they were introduced. Would have been really helpful sometimes.
Flying Spaghetti Monster 😂👌 k
There is also a reference from the 300. When Kratos and Atreus fight a swarm of Dark elves inside their hive (towards the end of the mission), Kratos says to Atreus that "a narrow path negates superior numbers". Pretty cool.
Stathis Barakos not really a movie reference considered the 300 was based on a real event where Greeks defended a narrow pass
if I said the battle of Thermopylae fewer people would understand it.
Stathis Barakos but the people who did understand it would appreciate it more
Even though it is loosely said in the movie, it is a common war strategy. Whether it is a reference or not, i believe half of these are just wishful thinking.
@@jordanbullock710 Oh shut up lmao.
My favorite was when Atreus said “and we know you hate pottery” and Mimir laughs. Alluding to how You smash any pottery you see for loot 😂
That and then when Kratos throws the Greek pottery to keep Atreus from seeing his old life
me also keep smash pottery for hacksaw
Link nods. Admiring Kratos passion for breaking stuff
then after drinking wine from an old pot guess what… he smashes the pot
I just like how the axe holder on Kratos’s back is a Greek omega
Luke Bailey “the greek omega” is the greek symbol of God of war (Kratos)
Reminds me of the fact that all of Kratos’ blades were stuck on his back by Kratos’ own gravitational pull.

It doesnt matter how many times i play this game, i find something new. Now i keep finding new things to look at in photo mode. I was already learning norwegian through books and music, but this game really made me able to read and understand older tongue and icelandic.
“There is a really cool item reveal through the game, i want you to experience it for yourself” next clip shows blades.
favorite previous game reference is certainly when he breaks the pot he finds that has him on it. and unrelated to the previous sentence... i love when the game taps on the fourth wall with atreus saying, “you do love to break pottery.” knowing that all the players are smashing every pot we see, link style.
Thanks for the spoiler heads up.
I guess I have to beat the game first.
It’s so incredibly long🤤🤤
In the best way possible tho
Mr- Banks yeah right I beat it in one day
Tits Mcgee Did you side quest at all?
Mr- Banks Im glad i took my time to beat it , took me 4 days but it was worth it.
The lil boy is really Loki and his mom is a giant.
Tits Mcgee played it on normal?
@gameranx Awesome video, but one nitpick. When Atreus was talking about The Norns, he was actually talking about the Norse versions of the Fates. The Norns wrote the fates of everyone in all the 9 realms.
5:01... towards the right, there's a chest. How do u get there ?
As soon as you open the cage take a left and climb, there’s a mural too
@@biglusciousx7160 lol it's been 5 months, I think he's got it by now haha
Great stuff. I noticed a lot of these, but I have to say I had no idea your artifacts showed up on Brok and Sindri's shelves after selling them because I never sold a single one haha. I always said I'd sell them when I needed to and I just never did.
I also just noticed that the "clip" that holds Kratos' axe is the God of War symbol
You left out one that was my favourite. When Atreus said "Puny Troll" and you will only get this joke at the end of the game.
... Most of these "easter eggs" weren't really easter eggs, or were extremely obvious. Bio shock? Totally over analyzing xD.
Can't believe you never the mentioned the Infinity Gauntlet or secret item unlocked by using a specific password in the Lake of Nine.
*EDIT:*
*I realize these EE's may not have been discovered at the time this video was posted, but maybe you should have waited more than 4 days after release before posting a click bait video. Still an entertaining video.*
The story of a bear and wolf. That’s actually incredibly telling given the end game reveal
Zontar82 Exactly.
*BOI*
At or around the 7 minute mark, the talk about the different symbols of war on the tapestry and "what may come", I remember watching a thing about the development of GoW and how the original creator had a plan to not only play as Kratos but 2 other Gods of War from different pantheons. You would play all three characters and your actions in one mythos would effect the worlds of the others. They may have been referencing what might have been. Or not. Tyr was very interested in all things and trying to understand the other Gods of War may have been crucial to his beliefs.
Spoiler alert huh?🤔 Looks like I'm adding this to my watch later list then.
2E the first Don't you mean the Crones of Crookback Bog? Lol
This is referencing the greek fates, because kratos is thinking about the greek fates he killed in god of war 2 when he talks about the fates
eddy1055555
tru that, but atreus is talking about the nordic fates
2E the first It's still a reference...
Terry Boy yeah
Gameranx, you do realize that Kratos' stories are about Greek stories by Plateo and Aesop right? That horse and stag story is almost entirely the Aesop story, the only difference they added (which might be partly homage) is the horse managed to have revenge at the end but the story really doesn't change as a result.
Boiii
Huh?”
That ''Indeed'' really caught me by surprise and had me laughing for a good while after, since I've watched SG-1 several times through.
I've been grinding this game, I'm in my third play through
I bought the collectors edition and it too came with runes that were a direct message from santa monica studios and it was a very heartfelt message
You still ruined it by saying that there was a reveal
Man, this game is far better than Ragnarok. Such a shame how Ragnarok ended up. It was really good but it could have been so much better.
Bio shock... Nah
Bleached Brownz I thought that but then I assumed it was something that light elves would have.
I was thinking metroid
Great that i could actually hear or see at the subtitles what kratos was saying at the second one
Well in the end of Norse mythology when the world ends two people will escape unscathed from the world true; this directly ties into the Christianity as this was made to help convert pagans away from the Norse beliefs so after this it could go back to Egypt then back to probably Jesus. Imagine that: Jesus kicking ass yelling loudly: “THE POWER OF CHRIST COMPELS YOU”
Tae Her heh, that gonna be fun. But they might get shredded by christians
Tae Her ehh, I dont know
Can't wait for the Japanese version to come out though so they can have the voiceline "I have God and Anime on my side! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH"
Not the blade of chaos 🙆🏽♂️
Twitsik there is something better, Spoiler !!!
BOYS NAME IS LOKI AND HIS MOTHER WA A GIGANT.
Tomasz KŁĘBECKI yeah I'm so curious about that and if you go back home after finishing the fame something happens
Oli Thurlbourn you get a really cool cutscenes
Twitsik i know, maby GOW 2 will start with battke with Thor ;-)
Twitsik there's definitely going to be another 2 more games and I want to know what was on the rest of that mural
The stories Kratos tells Atreus are Aesop’s fables the fable of the horse and the stag has nothing to do with kratos
i hope they make a dlc for god of war
KevinNateKN Dab of war
xD
Dev's already talked about not drowning this game with dlc so I'm not sure we're even getting any. They already looking at preproduction for a sequel though.
You guys missed the biggest of easter eggs...Artreus says the Turtle's name is Chaurlie, Which is the name people thought Artreus' name was going to be, was an interview or something and when they were asked what the kids name was they said charlie, or well they said charles but that is a nickname for charlie soooo.
And someone of the team added that in as the name for the turtle which caught the director off guard when he got to that part, and he loved it.
Kratos says to Atreyu: you are not ready
I think that’s a reference to ps1 ads that would show twisted metal and say U R Not e (the “e” was red) . Maybe I’m wrong, but that’s the way it sounded to me
Bongo X hahahah
I wish kratos said "you are not prepared". It would be great Easter egg
Thanks for the spoiler alert at the beginning of the vid. I was able to pause, leave a like and walk away :D
Kratos Vs God Beerus lol
Shaggad M yeah but keratos vs ra is gonna bee a huge mistke
this..and not beerus..goddamn weaboos millenials
I would say the cover of that book with the runes is also an Easter egg and hint at the ending. I won't say anything specific because spoilers, but the cover image has a very interesting overall shape.
imagine kratos killing muhammad XDXDXD
Mother Of Oblivion ehh, better not.... because muslims would go nuts... remember the south park mega controversy ?
Pifilix XIV i know, all the more reason to do it!
Mother Of Oblivion ok ? But, well, expect some dead threat from muslims on the studio of they do it
Pifilix XIV then we do what the texans did when they hosted the "draw muhammad" contest. of any troublemakers show up we turn them into swiss cheese with lead!
Adnan Sadiq plus, kratos butchering jesus into ground meat also sounds funny XDXDXD
The Infinity gauntlet when you complete the quest about the back stabbing son.
I think im nearing the end of the game and sad its almost over. Honestly one of the best gaming experiences ive ever had.
When he had to go get the chained blades.... yeah got them chills in ma spine
