So in Ghost of Tsushima, you have to switch stances based on the enemies you fight (big guys, little guys etc.). Perhaps they could implement something similar, especially with Atreus. Being able to give Atreus commands to switch up his fighting style based on the enemies your fighting ( ranged, close combat, berserker types, magic types etc) could be super fun. This would make you feel more in control of Atreus whereas before he sort of did his own thing. And getting tips from Mimir during combat would be cool. He could talk about the monsters if your encountering them for the first time. Mimir's stories were excellent I'd like to hear more about the world and its inhabitants, not just the gods etc. Basically just put me in charge
Just to point out something about Cory Barlogs status with the God of War franchise: He wasn't only the director from God of Wa 2018. This did not make him superstar out of nowhrere. He also directed God of War 2. In my opinion the best one up to 2018.
Yup. God of War 2 is regarded as the best in the Greek saga while God of War 2018 is a new masterpiece in the franchise. This is what make Cory the director icon for God of War franchise.
4:10 “…summons a critter..” I know a lot of people can’t tell the differences between Deers and Elks or whatever. But that looked nothing like a critter lmao
I was wondering how this time Kratos is going to sacrifice his unlocked abilities in the beginning of the God of War Ragnarok. For context, in GOW2 to own Blades of Olympus ,Kratos was required to sacrifice his magical powers etc. similarly in GOW3, after Poseidon fight swimming though the river took his abilities away.
Right??? I have no idea why it bothers me so much but it wasn’t nearly as satisfying when there wasn’t red blood raining on the battlefield. Plus as gory as it got, the last one was absolutely tame in comparison to the first trilogy. Like an E rated game compared to an M rating. I want that savage gut churning gore from previous games and RED blood covering your characters and weapons.
Huh, I have such a different take as someone who only just recently finished the game and has not played the orginal GOW series. I found the orange, yellow, and blue goop as a good way to differentiate between enemy types with poisonous enemies being neon yellow, frost being blue and orange being flame in comparison to the non-enchanted enemy types like wolvers. Like they act as visual cues as to what attacks you should be using which I believe the developers did intentionally to subtly indicate what the player should do beyond "enemy spotted". Because the reaver, draugr, nightmare, revenant, troll designs were reused via a recolor and given new attack patterns, it makes the workload easier on the developers because they don't have to design an entirely new rig for a new enemy type and design new nonrepetive animation brutalities. Like in theory you can identify the kind of enemy by just seeing their attack and not necessarily having to have them on screen and by having the goop be different colors it doesn't feel exactly the same every time you face that enemy type. However, I get why having the heavens rain blood is more in line with GOW! I'm just thinking about the developers' potential thought process.
@SOUL SEEKER i dont think so. they didnt take it away after all, they just made it more mature. there is still gore, but only when its actually needed and makes sense. and yes i did play the old games. the 2018 one is the best gow to this date.
I love when games expand customisation and optimisation in combat, but sometimes they overdo it. I worry they’ll make it too tedious to obtain different items and armour and there’ll be just too much to take on, and so becoming overwhelming. This really takes away from the fun factor, so fingers crossed they’ve done it well.
I can't remember the last time I was just SO confident a game would be amazing well before it came out. Maybe not since RDR2? Either way, I'm so excited for what's to come for this title!
More vertical combat means kratos will be fighting more like how he used to fight before he had Atreus….gonna b cool to see how that looks/feels with the now implemented combat mechanics
If you remember how Super Shotgun with Meathook changed the Doom dance forever Then this grappling mechanic might be something you really should wait and see
I’m 28 and have been gaming since the Super Nintendo when I was 4. God of War 2018 is the best game I have ever played in my 24 year gaming career. I have very high expectations for the sequel. Cory Barlog left some giant shoes to fill
Yeah but this new director has the god of war DNA from the original games plus we are in the modern era now so there is so much you can do now that you just couldn’t back than it is gonna feel like nostalgia for the OG god of war fan
I still dont get the complaints about Enemy variety in Gow 2018 , But I guess the way draugrs were placed in the world and the combat perspective gave that impression ( because its close up which makes the player feel like he is actually fighting) , because the game has 20+ enemy types , which is more that any previous god of war game or even any devil may cry game , thats for regular enemies not bosses , although there are like 8 side bosses in the game
If you include boss battles, which imo you should, God of War 3 has far more enemy variation. That said, they focused on different things for GOW(2018) and I’m all for that. It’s my favorite game of all time. But as a long fan of the series, I wish I didn’t have every mini boss battle end with Kratos either crushing an ogres head with its big piece of wood, or chopping open a trolls jaw. Seeing that 10+ times does get a bit old. In GOW 3 you’d have execution moves like that for the mini-bosses, but you’d rarely fight the same creature more than 2-3 times.
@@caktustumbleweed haha too true. I remember being absolutely blown away by everything... graphics, gameplay, violence. Sony has always done such a great job at optimizing their exclusives. 20+ reskin enemies. Their move sets have very little differences but the game gives each enemy its own entry which makes it seem like a lot. I just hope they have a Transmog system for Ragnarok. So many cool looking armors/pommels and it would be nice to change the appearance with out changing the actual armor
If I had to guess, I'd bet those norse human looking enemies like the one that was seen coming in a bifrost looking beam in the trailer are fallen vikings from valhalla. Odins warriors against the jotun for ragnarok, afterall it is ragnarok so I can imagine hes deploying the troops. So excited.
Why are we not talking enough about Kratos having his chains again? Think this is full circle... He started with those things and sadly might end with them...
Another thing I like is it looks like there are people walking around in the trailer. To have people in the background as you play, makes it feel more live a lived in world.
I would love Odin to be like a old chill man who spends most of his time just enjoying the world and trying to stay out of his families drama. Maybe, like Kratos he's changed or at least trying to change
I am so excited that it is going to be a cross-gen release because I am still loving my PS4. I have played all of the GOW games, including Chains of Olympus and Ghost of Sparta. So this addition will definitely be more than welcomed by me.
I think verticality playstyle in god of war is more of a theme represented in the beginning of 3 you climb Olympus with titans but with more control now. Just climbing and thrashing enemy after enemy.
"Shit, guys, Master Chief has a grappling hook! Kids love those things apparently!" -"Don't worry, sir. Kratos got some chains up his sleeve, if you know what I mean;)"
I am pretty sure that the "king of the hill" encounter he was talking about is where Kratos meets hank to pick up some propane and accessories for the big BBQ bash in hell. It takes a lot of natural gas to keep the lava moving.
Random thought. Would be nice to have the option to drop the climbable gold chains by tapping the button.. And then drop & climb down the chain by holding the button.
I'd rather have an option to throw the axe somewhere above then retrieve it to make the chain drop. Kratos being too reliant to his son to drop the chain makes him like a sissy.

i think Balrog and a small team are already working on pre-production for the next God of War game or maybe working on a new IP that'll be a PS5 exclusive. He did say there are other projects in development at Santa Monica.
I'm now imagining the Balrog from LotR sitting in an office trying to make the next god of war game

Odin and Kratos both want to prevent Ragnarok, their motives and methods differ, which opens the possibility of him being a temporary ally.
Interesting idea, but i greatly doubt we will see odin and kratos or kratos and most any other god allying
I feel like Kratos can give the axe to Atreus in mid battle from time to time and switch to his blades as Atreus can use the axe already in the first GOW when Kratos went in the light
I hope that we’ll have certain styles of the same armor pieces so that we can have a little more customization and feel more involved in the locations. Like we could have winter styles and styles more Greek focused.
I hope there will be less RPG things. Cuz getting my vitality up in 2018 was too hard for me, on GMGOW NG+++(don’t tell me I have no life, I know) I could barely take 1 hit with the highest vitality possible

Just to point out something about Cory Barlogs status with the God of War franchise:
He wasn't only the director from God of Wa 2018.
Was looking for this comment lol
I was wondering how this time Kratos is going to sacrifice his unlocked abilities in the beginning of the God of War Ragnarok. For context, in GOW2 to own Blades of Olympus ,Kratos was required to sacrifice his magical powers etc. similarly in GOW3, after Poseidon fight swimming though the river took his abilities away.
I was hoping they would change the enemy design, the glowing orange and blue goop instead of blood was one of my few complaints about the game
@SOUL SEEKER thats your opinion, objectively it was the best gow so far anyway. it doesnt need the gore to be a good game.
@SOUL SEEKER i dont think so. they didnt take it away after all, they just made it more mature. there is still gore, but only when its actually needed and makes sense. and yes i did play the old games. the 2018 one is the best gow to this date.
And please nerf the dark elves a bit
I love when games expand customisation and optimisation in combat, but sometimes they overdo it. I worry they’ll make it too tedious to obtain different items and armour and there’ll be just too much to take on, and so becoming overwhelming. This really takes away from the fun factor, so fingers crossed they’ve done it well.
I can't remember the last time I was just SO confident a game would be amazing well before it came out. Maybe not since RDR2? Either way, I'm so excited for what's to come for this title!
This month we have a lot of good games coming
Don't have hope, you can't top perfection. I don't think it'll be possible to top the 1st game
The King of the Hill encounters should start with Kratos saying, “BOY! Let me tell you hwhat.””
More vertical combat means kratos will be fighting more like how he used to fight before he had Atreus….gonna b cool to see how that looks/feels with the now implemented combat mechanics
Not having a trilogy was a surprise for me, I was really expecting to have Odin be the big bad of the third game
