My hood is off to Olenna. They don't call her Queen of Thorns for nothing as she's being a real thorn in the Lannisters' sides. I hated Joffrey anyway. Every rose has its thorn. That should be House Tyrell's secondary slogan.
Olenna Tyrell is hands down my favorite character in ASOIAF. She is snarky, hilarious, strong, and has the absolute keenest mind on Planetos. LOVE her. I'd watch a spin-off or read a whole book series about her life, past or future.
+Lynaya Hernandez I love that woman!! I wish Brienne of Tarth would pledge herself to Olenna's service. And why (in the show, not the books) did she not ASK Arya Stark if she'd prefer to remain with the Hound or be returned to her now-dead mother? Just what WAS she going to do with that orphaned child? There was nobody to return her TO, no place where she'd be safe and welcomed. I like Brienne; she has the best of intentions but doesn't plan ahead, just blunders on, swinging that sword and getting herself and others into more and more trouble. She would have made a terrific partner for Sandor Clegane, however -- the unstoppable duo!
+Kris Aaron I think she would've taken Arya to castle black, no one knows Jon is dead yet (I know he wasn't dead yet but probably would've been by the time they got there) or one of the houses of the North, one of them who are fiercely loyal to the Starks. Which I think is most of them!

I agree fully. The Queen of Thorns really is one of the best fictional characters ever conceived. And Diana Rigg's characterization is pure poetry: the way she speaks, her attitude, her tenacity. I totally get it.

Stannis never respected House Tyrell, specially because he knew it was Olenna the real ruler of the Reach. Also, its very stablished in the books that Loras and Margaery suspected of him being responsible for Renly's death. So, that would never work well. Maybe Olenna coul've allied her House to Robb Stark, asking him to marry Margaery. In that case, i doubt the Freys wouldve had the courage to kill them, because of the Reache's power.

If anyone Wonder why it was not Loras who were gonna marry Sansa, was because Loras actually joiner Kings guard in the books while mouring Renly.
PowerLord83, mostly because his family knew that he wasn't interested in women, so they wanted to marry her off to his older brother. In the show, they wanted a marriage between Sansa and Loras, but that was because the show cut the extraneous characters like Willis out to make more time for focus characters.

@@liamjohnston5099 you look at short term battle vs long term war. Aside from the bad writing of the TV since season 7, since that time between her and tywin, tyrells successfully won many fights to split up the lannister.

What I find the funniest is that she was the Queen of Thorns but no one dared call her that to her face expect Cersei and she paid the price for it with her pride
I wish we could get a prequel series and see the young Olenna Tyrell. She did say she was *very,very good* .
I love Olenna's character! Though I'm still surprised at how much love she gets from this video's commenters, given how her plans affected everyone's favorite Lannister.

Cersei is so stupid, she has so much power but doesn't know how to use it. Her only good move in the game of thrones was to arrest Ned Stark.
That arrest made Rob call the banners and move to Kingslanding, unless u meant it for them to be a card to insure Ned not talking about the children then yeah that's a good move.
She isn't as cunning as she thinks she is.
napolien 1 while the arrest backfired a bit it made sense. Who would believe the lies of a traitor? Unlucky for Cersei he had warned Stannis beforehand, starting what should have been the battle lf the 3 kings into the battle of the 5 kings

Wrong. Her arrest led to his death because she cannot foresee how her badly behaved son would go against her wishes. She's his mom. She knows he's insane. And yet took that dangerous step.

+Rei Sarmiento Plus , on the show, Tywin had threatened to make Loras a member of the Kingsguard if Olenna refused to go along with marrying him to Cersei and Sansa to Tyrion. As Loras's two older brothers weren't characters on the TV series, this would not be a very good thing for the Tyrells. In the books, though, Loras was named to the Kingsguard immediately after the Battle of the Blackwater.

I feel like the whole plot point of hiding the posion in Jewelry was unnecessarily unpredictable. No one would search a high lady, so why couldnt Olena have just kept it on her person? The real answer is the plot is more interesting this way, but that kinda makes it worse from a logic standpoint.
It was to draw the blame away from herself and put it on Sansa and Tyrion, and besides, the more unpredictable the better!

Willas Tyrell
I love Olenna Tyrell in the books. She isn’t as good in the show but her japes are also a little funny in the books too. I don’t even hate her for ghosting Sansa that much when she wasn’t of any use because it’s kinda in her character to do so. I prefer a sassy Olenna than a pitiful one. I just hope she will appear more in the future books because so far, she has only made a couple minor appearances. She really is the Queen of Thorns.
Im pretty sure her and willas will have a crucial role in the reach in WoW, especially in dealing with the threats from Euron and Aegon

so, how many grandkids does olenna have?.....in the show two were mentioned but in the books, there are more tyrells....I haven't read the books tho, I just saw it somewhere
In the books, she has 7 grandkids. Her daughter, Mina has 3 kids who are all Redwynes. Mace actually has 4 children: Willas, Garlan, Loras and Margaery, although HBO has cut out Willas and Garlan. And her other daughter, Janna doesn't have any kids that we know of.
so, if we following the series, the tyrells are pretty much done when it comes to thier family line?, that's disappointing.....they were definitely my favorite family in GOT.
Yeah, it looks like it! It is disappointing, they were really interesting to watch. The most part of the remaining main characters are fairly transparent in their motivations so the Tyrells were great in their unpredictability.

Loras was fostered at storms end so they became friends (lovers) and mace listened to loras when he wanted to support him
Doctor Van Nostrand is the first person who suggests Lady Oleanna was the mystery woman Maester Aemon loved and lost. I've suspected that, as well. Chronologically, I'm not sure it could have happened, as Aemon was well into his 90s when he died and Oleanna is in her 70s. He left for the Wall as a relatively young man and spent the rest of his life there, so she would have had to be very young when she knew him. Still... it's possible. But probable? Would she have turned him down, intent on a position of power he had no intention of providing? Were they separated by relatives with Other Plans for their future? Maester Aemon SHOULD have been king of Westeros, but refused the throne. Why? Did it have anything to do with Lady Oleanna? She's my favorite ASOIF character, and I'd love to know more about her backstory. CivilizationEx, what say you? Can we look forward to another video on this great lady?
+Kris Aaron that is show version they screw the time line by cut out Jaenerys II's reign and Aemon Targaryen Kids on show. In the show they made Areys II (the Mad King) Targaryen the son of Aegon Targaryen not his grandson.
+Sophia Wilson Damn, do they EVER screw with the time line! On the show, it's not only possible but probable that Maester Aemon's true love was Lady Oleanna. She didn't do a Jerry Hall on him, so points to Oleanna for being a lady of honor instead of blatently after Targaryen power and gold (I'm being a bitch; apologies all around).

In books she engage to marry Daeron Targaryen who youngest son of Aegon 5 Targaryen and Aerys (the Mad King) Aegon 5 grandson.
Okay, now I'm really confused. Please let me know which book discussed her connection with Daeron Targaryen. The show has mixed up Oleanna's time frame (and many others), but I know she decided one of the Tyrells was a better marriage prospect than a Targaryen. Wasn't Daeron the uncle of Aerys, the Mad King?

Willas was mentioned to be the only male of House Tyrell to heir his grandma's wit. A shame his character didnt make to the show. One of the worst changes, as George R.R. Martin said himself. The eldest son of House Tyrell is known to be very wise and admired for many. By being injuried by Oberyn Martell in a tourney, he became lame. However, his mind's really sharp, and he never holded a grudge against Oberyn, being in touch with him trough ravens, untill his death.
They shared interest in breeding animals horses and hawks.

Yes they're alive, but Loras is badly burned and Margaery is under arrest.
And Loras is not "the future of Highgarden" but Wilas, who's the real heir.
Yes, and there are more members of the family in the books too. Mace and Alerie have 4 kids instead of 2. The two extra are named Willas and Garlan Tyrell, Loras and Margaery’s older brothers. Willas is the heir to Highgarden instead of Loras and Garlan is the Lord of Brightwater Keep currently and is married to a noble lady named Leonette Fossoway from Reach house, House Fossoway. Loras joins the Kingsguard after Renly’s death, not wanting to marry a woman because he thinks he will never love anyone again and Margaery still weds Renly, Joffrey, and Tommen like in the show. We also see Tyrell cousins named Elinor, Alla, and Megga who are Margaery’s ladies-in-waiting and are her closest companions. We also see Alerie Hightower in the books too.

Nah she wasn't going to die anyway.
Yeah, but the Targaryen she was married to was gay so the marriage wouldn’t have worked out for her. So she shrewdly married Luthor Tyrell from House Tyrell, which is a very rich great house so she still gained plenty of power. And she did say she genuinely loved husband dearly, even though she thought of him as an oaf and probably manipulated him a lot. So that marriage worked out way better than a Targaryen marriage for Olenna in the end.
