Mrs Chris, Chris, Chris! My favorite all time! Mama used a stewing hen and she made a triple batch of dumplings just like yours. We didn’t even care about the chicken....we just wanted those dumplings... no canned biscuits, no drop dumplings... roll em out! Thank you Mrs. Chris
roll em out 🙄
I’ve never tried canned biscuits for dumplings, but how could those make good dumplings they don’t even make good biscuits.
😊
@@resa.walters I don't *have* to do anything. *You* roll them out.
@@resa.walters go play in heavy traffic 🚦
I made your dumplings last night. My husband was sleep, he got up this morning hollering and screaming and talking about his grandma. 😂😂.. he loved them! Ty !💋
I like homemade rolled dumplings I’ve tried those ones with the buttermilk biscuits and that was the nastiest pot of a waste of ingredients. Rolled is way authentic.
My Grandmother taught me this method and I must admit it's my favorite!☺️ When I make this a lot of the older people in the family are Shocked that a 49yr old knows how to make HOMEMADE DUMPLINGS this way. 🤗 It's a Win Win for me though.
Thanks for the share
Is there a written recipe
@ruthannrodgers6882 yes its under her name. Just hit the 2 arrows.
I've been making chicken and dumplings since 1987. I learned from a neighbor I had when I was first married, living on Keesler AFB in Biloxi MS. Ma'am, you showed me an entire new way to drop my dumplings, and not have them turn into a mushy mess. And you showed me a new way to add more flavor to my broth, and I will be doing this for my Sunday dinners. Thank you so much! All if your recipes are so delicious! So glad I found your channel! God bless you!💕
Hattiesburg ms here
I've been eating chicken and dumplings all my life. A few things we do different is to leave the skin on all the chicken instead of adding butter, we roll them a little thicker so they are less like noodles and more like small biscuits, and add about 1/2 cup of milk at the end. Ive never tried using broth in the dumplings, but I will the next time I make them. Especially now that you've got my mouth watering for them! Thanks so much for all your work. I know these videos take a lot longer to prepare than just the 30 minutes or so that we see. TY TY TY!
Chris You are so needed! You are keeping the old school recipes alive. Thanks you so much. I remember my grandmother made a lot of dishes that made you smile all day. I had forgotten about this!! 😂 Thank you I made this tonight pretty much the same way but you have definitely schooled me on the dumplings. You are a treasure 😘
I love the way she talks. I’m 28 but she gives me grandma vibes 🥰🙌🏽🤗🥰
I wasn't even looking for a chicken and dumplings recipe but me and my husband was talking about me making some this weekend and somehow I stumbled on this video ❤️
First let me say, I cried watching this because you remind me of my mama and she's been gone so long but this made me feel like she's right here next to me and next, you make this almost exactly like she did and I now do and yep, I use a fork too
Thank you for putting this video up, I can't even begin to tell you how much my heart needed it and I didn't even realize it ❤️
💖💖💖💖💖💖💖😊
You just explained Kneading the dough perfect.. I never really got it when they would say (knead your dough 5 times) and it looked liked 20 times .. now I get it. Thank you love your videos!!
Now you're a lady that knows how to cook!😋
Best Chicken and dumplings ever. Only thing I changed is I used chicken breasts skin and bones on them. I'm like you I have to have lots of flavor in my food, no bland food in my house.
Thank you for this fantastic recipe!
My mother, a south Texas girl, would make only rolled dumplings. She thought drop dumplings were awful. I knew another lady who always broke the larger chicken bones in half so that the bone marrow would cook into the broth & make it richer.
My husband likes your recipes very much. So much that many of your recipes are a part of what I do. Most nights I have no idea what to cook for dinner. One thought is just make a roulette wheel with your recipes and just spin it. Everybody will be happy. I share your recipes often. Thankyou for sharing so much, with so much thought. 😊💕😊
Now that's it right there. This is the way my mom and grandma made their dumplins. Thanks Mrs. Chris.
Wow when you said you like the bone that’s how my granny made her me it was the best she didn’t break it down she just added the dumplings 🥟 to the chicken once they were tender 💗❤️💗❤️
Came out delicious. I used a whole chicken, carrots, 1/2 onion and added 1/4 c chopped asperagus to the hot bowl. Thank you for all of your directions they were very good directions!
Absolutely amazing. I thought this recipe was gone with my grandmother. I have been craving these for over 20 years . I have found recipes close. But not like this. Thank you ma'am
I wanted to taste yours right then Lord have mercy help me to make these dumplings my favorite food
My husband is the most finicky eater ever. I am not a cook but I followed your directions step by step and guess what....my husband LOVED the chicken and dumplings. Thank you from Florida!
I eaten many good dumplings in my life but I have never had chicken and dumplings with onion and garlic. I use poultry seasoning and thyme to flavor my chicken.
Oh how i wish my knees were under your table for the chicken and dumplings. My cousin who used to make them has passed away and these were how she used to make them. Can't wait to try this. I subscribed to your channel today after The Farming Pastor Wife referred to your channel today. I believe i will love your channel snd your cooking techniques. Looking forward to many, many recipes to come and recapping your past recipes. Thak you Ms Chris for the detailed instructions.
Yes, Now this is how you make chicken and dumplings! I love chicken thighs because they are juicy and full of flavor, and I love my bones, and I don't want no vegetables in mine! Ms. Christ, I'm at the front door with my "BIG BOWL"!God bless you always! 🙏🏽👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼❤
Mother, I just finished following your recipe to the T and it came out perfectly. This is officially how I will make chicken and dumplings from now on. Thank you for sharing with us and be blessed!
Everytime, I'm looking for a recipe I'm looking for yours. Thank you!!
You are such a wonderful teacher! You leave no detail out. I love it! ❤️
My aunt wanted chicken and dumplings but I don't like wet dough ad have never made this dish. I thought to myself...ChrisCooks4U makes so many homemade southern classics, I know she has a recipe. And sure enough, you did! I followed your instructions and surprised myself. Not only did my aunt enjoy and appreciate this dish...so did I! Thank you!
Let me tell you that is exactly how my Great Grandmother and my Grandmother used to make it!❤! Thank you so much! I just subscribed 😊I enjoyed this video so much! I felt like I was watching my Grandmother's ❤looking forward to more great recipes!I I'll be watching ❤
Hey Chris! I made these dumplings yesterday, and my hubby said they tasted the way the old folks cook’em 😊 and this time my six year old gave me two 👍🏾👍🏾. That broth is delicious...thank you. ❤️
CHRIS I always admire your technique on how you do your cooking. Your food is excellent when your directions are followed
Ms. Chris, Ms. Chris, Ms. CHRIS!!! That looks so delicious!!! Just like I remember my Mother, my uncle and one of my aunts used to make it. Thighs and legs though but no carrots or nothing just like you when my Mother wanted chicken and dumplings that’s what she wanted 😊 Ms. Chris you’re still one of my MOST FAVORITE Cooking Girls! For those who don’t know Ms. Chris can show you the old school way and she can teach you short cuts for the new school but they will all be delicious. My Mom used to say that same saying “ Ain’t nothing to it a baby could do it...If you put him up to it” I already loved you for cooking style and recipes with your staple being my Mother’s favorite staple (Onion soup mix) (Lipton) also. but now you’ve added one of her cool memorable sayings from when I was a child. I have to remember you are from Chicago 😊 ChiTown in the House or shall I say in the kitchen.
Thank you! I never knew why my dumplings never turned out and you showed me what I was doing wrong. I can't wait to make these. You're always making me salivate, your food looks sooooo good.
Ms. Chris you reminds me so much of my Mom and Her Teachings. You're my go to for something I don't remember. I Thank God For You and Your Granddaughter encouraging you to help keep that home made kitchen meals alive. Especially those Old School Recipes. God Bless You and Your Family. I going get your Cook Book.
I love chicken and dumplings but have always had trouble with my dumplings. I'm going to try yours. My mom passed away while I was young so I never found out how she made hers. Yours is like hers even cutting them with a fork😊 Thank you so much for sharing your recipe and technique. Your a treasure.
I loved how you made me feel I was in the kitchen with you when you were cooking this recipe! Closest recipe I've seen like my Grandmother! Can't wait to make this! Thank you!
This is by far the best instructional dumpling video I have ever seen.
Hi 👋🏽 Chris. I appreciate the written recipes that is very helpful and thoughtful to your subscribers /viewers. I value your recipes because I think you are an awesome cook who present us with tasty recipes.Thank you 🙏🏽❤️
Love your receipt and narrative detail. Grandma said she never seen a chicken with enough fat for her flat dumplings I. She added a lot more butter and we boys fought over them the next day because they were even better.
Thank for sharing...on my list of todos.
Praise Jesus for you and your real dumplings!!!!! You are sharing a dying recipe and I could not be more grateful.
The way my mom taught me. Nothing compares to homemade dumplings. But, I have cheated before and used canned biscuits. Thank-you Miss Chris.
When I see your ingredients I already know it’s about to be bomb!! Every recipe of yours I’ve followed has not failed me yet 🤗
I've been searching for a proper chicken and dumplings recipe and this one did not disapoint! Your dumpling dough was perfect ( I used the egg)! Thank you !
I followed this recipe to a T and I was so pleased at how delicious it turned out! My family and I loved it. I’ve made chicken and dumplings for years but never from scratch like this, and for some reason it never occurred to me to season my dumplings. Chris you are my favorite RUclips chef, I love the way your videos are laid out and I especially love how you show closeups of how the food should look and feel as we follow. You also give plenty of options and your recipes are flexible. I have watched many, many of your videos but this one is my favorite😁, thank you so much!!
Watching you takes me back to my Grandmother’s kitchen. She laid her dumplings out with some flour and allowed them to sit for a little bit because she would say, ‘they need to dry out just a bit’. Cooking with my Grandmother.....Such good memories.
I love the way you explain your recipes down to a tee. I learned how to cook from my Mama but Ms. Chris I have learned sooooooooo much from you. Tips I've shared with my mom and she's like yeah she cooks like her mom an old school southern cook!!! Thank you so much for being you and being amazing 🥰 Love ya peace and blessings 💕
Thank you Mama Chris I really appreciate all of your videos you cook like my granny that passed. I cook the same way and i thank you for all you do with these videos. May The Most High bless you.
You are an excellent teacher. After watching this, I made a dinner that everyone loved and ate every bite. I went the egg route...added one egg.
Just discovered your channel today, and I love you already! Your cooking brings back memories of the excellent meals we had growing up.
Oh this looks so delicious! Reminds me of Grandma's!
This is how it's done! Followed your recipe and it turned out perfectly. Thank you Mrs. Chris!💯💕
I love how you explain step by step thanks
Girrrrllll...this is the BEST looking bowl of chicken and dumplings on YT!!! God bless you!!!
You blow mine away! Best ones I’ve seen yet! Original southern. Love it! 👍🏼❤️
Ms. This I wish I was where your at. I need some Chicken and Dumplings. My Mom passed away in 2008 and I’ve hungered for them and none of my family members got her recipe and I’m sick about it. Yours look so much like hers. I’m going to one day get the nerves and try yours. Thank you and God’s Blessings to you.
Looks delicious! Thank you for going step-by-step. You make cooking look so easy
Mrs Chris I appreciate your chicken and dumplings recipe more than you will ever know!! Tastes just like my great aunt’s recipe. Can’t wait to make your strawberry cake next!
Perfection!!! My Momma made her chicken and dumplings similar to your recipe. She is gone now but I am happybI found you on RUclips so that I can make them now. Will be cooking these today. Thank you so much for sharing your recipe.
I watched every minute of your video trying to see if this was close to how my mom made hers. i grew up on chicken n dumplings that was my favorite dinner, lunch, late night snack etc.. when i saw you mixing the flour in your fingers My mom mixed her flour like that to..and saying you could use butter instead, i knew i had found the perfect recipe. She would also always say don't drop them on top of eachother just like you said. But i was impatient doing 1 by 1 i and would leave the kitchen, i guess that's why i never learned 100%..my mom passed when i was 27,(at that age you think there's still time to learn recipes) I'm now 53 and I always think how to make her recipe..i remember her rollin the dough and i would help roll n cut the squares(that was the fun part) i remember butter, half n half, looked like chicken n dumplings swimming in creamy white gravy.. and now i think I've found it thanks to you..i can't wait to try the recipe cuz it would really taste like home..
I learned something new. I've only ever had the biscuit type dumplings. I think my family would enjoy this. Thanks for sharing.
How to prevent dumplings from dissolving? This recipe is the hands down winner. Video and instructions were most excellent. Thank You!
That looks delicious! I’ve never made it before, and yours is the best looking ones that I’ve seen. ❤️
I'm going in. Got the pot on for the broth now thanks sista🤗
I have watched and cooked these chicken and dumplings exactly as you showed. They are so delicious! Thanks for caring & sharing.
That's how you make it!! Not with biscuits, egg noodles, balls of dough etc...This is how my grandmomma made them and they were excellent!! I'm trying this!!
You look so pretty! I love your hairstyle. Thank you for sharing tips and this delicious homemade C & D recipe.
I can’t thank you enough, Miss Chris! I followed along with you and FINALLY was able to make delicious chicken & dumplings like my southern mama used to make! Merry Christmas and God bless you, dear!
My granny made this for me and my little cousin all the time just like this❤❤❤ nobody can cook like a southern granny!
That looks amazing!!! Thank you for taking every step with the dough for us !!!
😋 Delicious and I used to watch my grandmother make this😋
Chris when you were making the flour dough for the dumplings I started crying. It made me think if my grandmother. You know how to cook!!! After watching this I subbed to your channel. My mom makes chicken and dumplings from scratch too. I’ve never made them because I didn’t know how to do the dumplings. Thanks to you I know how. Happy 2022♥️♥️😘😘 Looking forward to seeing g it f
I'm making this excellent for the 2nd time in 2 weeks ❤ My family LOVES IT! Thank you Ms. Chris! Happy New Year!
This is one of my all time favorites...I like to put the bones back in the pot too..I tried your “easy“ version of chickn n dumplings and they were delish... cant wait to try this version... thank you so much for sharing all your recipes and tips!
Mom would sift flour over the dumplings. And ALL the dumplings was in the same bowl. Also Mom added a little pet milk towards the end of simmering. BONES GOOD!!! Excellent technique
Thank you Ms. Chris for sharing these recipes with us. I can cook, but you have helped me step it up. Im cooking things I never thought I would because of you. May God continue to bless you and bless us with you.
Ms Chris, My Mom and grandmother used to make Chicken and Dumplings when we were kids, it was soooo good. Before I got married I never learned how to make C&D the way my Mom and grandmother did, Silly ME right? LOL Anyhow, my ex was in the AirForce, stationed at Offutt Air Force Base in Nebraska. I wanted to make C&D for dinner one evening so I called my Grandma to ask her how to make it. My grandma, just like yourself, said she never measured anything, she just eyeballed it. She said she would make some the next day, measure her ingredients and get back to me. Well, she called the next day, gave me the recipe, except she said the amount of liquid I should add to the flour was hard to measure exactly because not all flour is the same and the flour had to have just the right amount of liquid or they would fall apart or be too tough. Well, I attempted to make my first pot of C&D. It was a disaster. I ended up with a great big pot of "MUSH"...LOL I called grandma, told her what happened, she said I added too much liquid or not enough flour. This was back in 1977, we didn't have the internet so she could see what I was going. I tried again and this time it was a lot better. The more I tried, the better it got, until I finally mastered my dumpling dilemma. Seeing your video brought those fine memories back and I actually had a tear in my eye just think about my Mom and Grandma, why have both passed, and watching them cook and just being a part of their teaching to me when I was young. I want to thank you for sharing your knowledge and skills as well as your wonderful recipes. I'm going to make your recipe this evening except this time, I'm sure I will NOT end up with a pot of MUSH. You are so kind. Just watching and listening to the way you explain what you are doing and how to do it, you must be one wonderful lady to know. I wish you could be my neighbor. Have a wonder holiday season and I will continue to watch your videos. Thanks again...Patti Rebhan, Baltimore MD
So happy I watched this. Girl I didn’t think anyone made real home made dumplings anymore. This was wonderful, thank you so much.
See I just made some I didn't know exactly how to make the dumplings but they came out good however I'm so ready to make this again with the correct ingredients I need to use the butter or lard Plus milk I just used broth but overall they were delicious 😋😋😋🤤🤤

You, my lady, are terrific! You are the bomb! Thank you, from the bottom of my heart.....you're such a inspiration!
I'm definitely going to make this!!! My Dad loved his mother's and sister's. Unfortunately they have all passed on, but this brought back memories. My Aunt and Nana used a hen sometimes. I'm going to use chicken thighs like you did.
Thank You, Ma'am! I truly enjoyed this video. You were SO Thorough in explaining every part of the process. I'm writing this on a Friday night. I'm planning on making this for dinner this coming Sunday night. I'm excited. You were very clear that a person can deviate a bit from a stringent recipe and still have great success. Warm Regards, Russ
You made it so easy. I’m making my family some dumplings soon. You do such a fantastic job making it easy. Thank you
Chris you are the best cook on RUclips! You have taught me how to be a wonderful cook and I thank you so very much!! May God bless you and your family always. 🙏💫
I agree with this 💯
Hi Chris, I’ve tried so many C & D recipes on RUclips. I had given up. Why people put in carrots & peas is beyond me. This came out so good. Thank you! When I watched you make it, I thought, this is the one. Some recipes called for cream of chicken soup. It was not good. No peas, no carrots and No cream of chicken soup. Thank you again!
Love the way you give details!!
Omg I just made this and oh Lord is it good!!!! So good I can't stop eating. Thank you from NYS for this delicious recipe!
Now I have to make this. I've been doing the lazy way with biscuits but this gave me life! And that creamy gravy w/o cream of anything!! Yes!
I cannot wait to try this recipe. I tried your one with the biscuits, my family loved it. Thanks for this version. I know it will be great. Bless you Chris. ❤😊
I’m excited to make this recipe! We missed you! Thank you for teaching us 👏
Great Looking dish!!! I love the thickness of your dumplings....little slivers of dough....not too thick. This recipe reminds me so much of how my grandmother made hers. Nothing fancy but down right delicious. Thanks for sharing!
Dang momma that looks good!! Gonna make some this weekend!!
Yum yum, that looks good! Can’t wait to try it!
You are a terrific teacher....explaining every single thing. Thank you so very much!❤🙏⚘
"A baby could do it if you put em up to it" 😂😂😂 🙌💪💯👍💕 Thank you for your recipe!
This is basically how my mom made these. So thank you for this!!!! I haven't made them perfect yet. The first time they blew up thick and the second time the partly disintegrated , but I am still trying. Hopefully this video will make them perfect 😃. Bless you, Chris!
Send me feedback when you do.😋
Oh my, I am so glad I found you. I love your approach to the recipes. Thank you for your time and efforts.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Omg , 1st time making homemade dumping and they are soooo delicious 😋. Thank you auntie Chris.
I love watching you cook. Your awesome in the kitchen. You remind me of the way my Grandma cooked. 😊❤
Great instructions, love all the details! On point for sure! My Grandma used that old school fork method too. She had to comb her hair with a fork too when she was kid bc she and her sisters didn't have a comb or brush on the farm they grew up on in Southern IL. back in the day. Lovely vid. Thx for sharing. It refreshed my memory on some of my Grandma's tricks n tips. She used a whole chx and cooked it all down. Love that you use the bones too. More nutrition bc you get the gelatin for cartilage and joint health. Thx for sharing. I just subscribed! ❤
Love the old school cooking , these look so good . Your the best
you mean just...cooking and not instant food.. people cook.. its not old school. its just life
This is good food ,old school man I've been cooking this ,biscuts, cornbread
Looks soooo good. I've never had luck using these ingredients. I use plain old all purpose flour and pour in ice cold water. Everything else to make the dumplings is the same. I roll mine as thin as possible and the dumplings will taste like whatever liquid you cook them in.
