Absolutely the best video on bunker play ever made. I'd bet I've watched a hundred videos in my 83 years and none comes close to the clarity and rationale of this one. Great job, Julian. I am now subscribed to your videos, hoping you'll have more on every aspect of the golf swing!
I used this bunker technique this season and had great success. I like the structure of these videos, since some RUclipsrs talk for 6 minutes before they show what the video is about.
Now THIS was gold! The little history lesson about hickory shafted clubs helps make sense of the incorrect technique we’ve all been using forever! Simplest is best so I’m gonna take this to the practice ground and get a new groove on! Cheers Julian!
Absolutely game-changing. It’s so easy to get out of bunkers, I’m actually a little disappointed if I’m not in a bunker at least once per round just to practice. Thanks Julian!
Thank you Peter, I felt it was important to explain why this method is different from the way it was conventionally taught. Things change and so should the methodology
Thank you Julian, I have just got back from trying this technique at my clubs practice bunker, it is certainly the easiest method I have tried, much more consistent, cheers!
@@JulianMellor Probably the Holy Grail of golf Julian. Some say it cannot be taught, others seem less sure. Either way good luck, the ultimate challenge. 🙏🏻
Excellent video, after struggling in bunkers I watched your video and gave it a try, I now look forward to showing off at how easy I get out of them easily and consistently. Thanks
Julian, do you have a video on setting up to hit wedges as mine go left from 30 yds plus out all go left length ok direction rubbish, thanks in advance
Love it, I take it you aim at the spot just behind ball still with this set up! The reason I ask is that by digging your feet into sand lowering stance, doesn't club naturally land behind ball even if you aiming at ball?
Great video. Julian’s method absolutely changed my sand play. I now get out of the sand every time. In fact, I now am not just thinking about getting the ball on the green, but I’m actually trying to get it close to hole! A whole new mentality for me. Key for me to get my shaft straighter was to envision I’m hitting a “flop shot” from the sand. Feels very “wristy”. I’m not sure if that’s the right image - but it has worked for me!
An excellent very clear helpful video. Julian's method really works. I wish I had started playing golf following Julian's ideas for all types of shots. I would have improved a lot quicker & enjoyed pain free golf.
Enjoyable video. I struggle for distance control. 20, 30, 40 yards in bunkers. Always leave my bunkers short and extremely inconsistent from these distances. Any guidance please in regards to club selection? I would hazard a guess that stance and set up as your instructions in this video. Thank you, Julian. Keep up the good work!
Thanks Julian. I always suspected aiming left with an open club face was wrong. I play out of bunkers with everything square to target line, however, the results are variable. The key looks to be proper set up and follow through as you have demonstrated. I'll adopt your technique. Great instructional video.
Hi Julian, I played golf yesterday here in Thailand. I found myself in two green side bunkers and played out with no problems using your technique. Thanks for posting this video.
Very interested in this approach. Plan to try it on the course if eventuality arises. What about the level of the sole of the club. Heal toe at same level or is the toe slightly raised? Thank you.
Hello, if you work on it on the practice area first you should have a lot of success with it. Just allow your club to sit naturally and you’ll be fine. I’d be interested to hear how you get on.
Another very useful video Julian. Is it the same process if you need to get the ball very high very quickly? Some of the bunkers on my course are 5/6feet deep and if you’re close to the face it’s very tough to get out 1st time.
Julian I have just watched 2 videos of you how to get out of bunkers One you say open club face and adjust your stance the other you don’t Keep club square.?
The opening of the club face is required for a specialist shot ie short high shot if the pin is close to the bunker and you need to stop the ball quickly. All done in the set up and the swing technique is the same.
The simplest technique ‘by far’ is to do two simple things- 1) Imagine The Ball is a Daisy and you need to cut the stem underneath. Focus on just this… cutting the stem. 2) Make SURE to take a 3/4 Swing. Just try it… it really works
In general, no. Quote from USGA & R&A: "In bunkers you cannot touch the sand with your club in the area right in front of or right behind your ball, during your backswing or in taking practice swings."
you make it look so eeeeeeeasy but 4 me at the club i play it s a lottery as to the condition of the bunker: only because the club is trying to save dollars. Anyway, aside from that: have u any vids showing how 2play from within trees: on bare lies: or with heaps of rubbish i,e leaves twigs and the like. U probably wouldn t have played on such courses, unfortunately, here at the club I play it is one of that type. Sorry it s got nothing 2 do with what u r on about.
The best video on bunker shots. It’s practical and easy to emulate. It works!
It certainly does Ackim 👍👏

ball pickup with the wedge was cool

@@JulianMellor indeed, although one might need to get creative in pot bunkers that are deeper than one is tall!

It makes sense to use a normal swing, nice and simple without lots of swing thoughts.
It does indeed Paul
Much simpler technique. Thanks, Julian. Keep us posted as you near your Senior Tour play. Are you doing the Champions Tour here in the States?
Will do James, I’m dipping my toe in the water initially to see how my game measures up and then I’ll see where I go from there 👍

You should aim to hit the sand a balls width behind the ball, it the only shot in golf you shouldn’t be hitting the ball.
It looks so easy............
I must try (succeed) this !
Thanks.

Great video, how do you control distance, what do you do with a very short bunker shot?
Thank you, more loft and slower swing will alter the distance of the shot Yan
Thanks Julian! Would you recommend any adjustments if the sand is very soft and fluffy? Thanks again
Try closing the face slightly 👍

@@JulianMellorAnd how does one work on distance control.
Good, sensible information. One question about higher lip bunkers - do you open the club face for those or just do this technique with a lob wedge?
If it’s just a bit high then use a lob wedge. If it’s really high then open the face of a lob wedge
