    What a sick Dark Hollow
    And the Dry Canyon pedestal clip let's go, I can't pretend like I don't love it.

      I'm so hyped that I got to use that pedestal clip! And good thing you only found the fodder flop yesterday because I do not want to TAS that trick. RNG manipulating the rats in Gnorc Gnexus is already painful enough.

      and the one in dark hollow was a pedestal bounce, nice to see that implemented as well.

      @@n30n6r33nNow that I've learned how the boosted jumps work I started using them in a lot of places. The pedestal bounces in Dark Hollow are obvious because you wouldn't be able to make those jumps normally, but for example at 04:45 the jump to the second dragon in Town Square is a boosted one. It helps Spyro reach the required height quicker. During the course of the whole run the tech might save me an entire second!

    For me, this is the reason why I love downloading PS1 TAS playthroughs like these, especially PS1 games I grew up with like the Spyro franchise for example. Always finding new ways to break the first game in every way, shape, or possibility. Before you know it, you'll end up in a similar situation with the Super Mario Bros. game from the Famicom/NES where they're hitting a limit to how fast can you beat the game in milliseconds at this point or the closest a human can do until it becomes impossible to tackle and no longer beatable or a world record at that point.
    Hopefully Spyro The Dragon (PS1) doesn't hit that limit anytime soon, but it can get there, who freakin' knows where the limit starts and the fastest times and possibilities end.

      i can safely guarantee we won't be hitting that limit 😉this game can always go a little bit faster

      @@lumilauraa I'm just saying if you speedrunners ever get there, this comment is just a reminder to look back on. Thankfully, as of today, that's not the case, but who knows, we might get there; you'll never know. D)

    really good watch, the routing was super interesting!

    I noticed you used my route for gnorc cove. I had thought my route following the first dragon was actually timed to be barely slower than just tasing the standard route. Is it actually faster?

    • @Peteguy100
      @Peteguy100  9 месяцев назад +1

      The standard route is about half a second faster, just tested it. This was just an oversight on my part, I tend to get impatient and less focused towards the end of making these TASes. I still think the wallglide route is pretty neat though.

      @@Peteguy100 agreed. My main motive for creating it was just because it felt more direct and looks cooler tbh. No worries.

    what is the point in going down to 1 hp?

    • @Peteguy100
      @Peteguy100  11 месяцев назад +2

      It allows me to do a death upon rescuing a dragon. An example occurs at 04:55. If you touch a dragon while the death animation is playing, you usually get what's called the zombie glitch, which has a number of weird effects. However, if you touch the dragon at the very end of the death animation, it causes you to simultaneously die and collect the dragon, causing you to respawn at that same dragon. This can save some time in itself, because you skip the relatively long dragon rescuing cutscene. I do this several times in this TAS, each occurrence saving 0-2 seconds when you account for the time loss from having to take damage.
      In addition to this raw time save, losing lives also allows me to get two game overs: in Ice Cavern and in Jacques. The game over in Ice Cavern is a particularly interesting one, because it allows me to do a faster Peace Keepers homeworld route. The one in Jacques doesn't change the Dream Weavers homeworld route, because for some reason if you game over in a Dream Weavers level, you respawn in front of that level's portal instead of at the start of the homeworld. However, that game over in itself does save about 2 seconds over rescuing the dragon normally and then exiting the level. I don't know exactly how much time all of these strats save, but my conservative estimate is about 14 seconds.
