Been working from home for a while now. Worked for Hospitals and billing offices for years and don't miss that setting. No office dramas, rumor mills, finger pointing, nepotism, etc. No distractions!!
Hey. I was wondering with the level of experience that you have would you consider offering personal tutoring to someone interested in getting more work experience?
Please how can I reach this man I’m really in need of his help🤲
I just started medical billing and coding and I'm glad I found your channel for more clarification on what to expect after being unsure if this is the career for me, but after watching your channel I'm more confident and ready for the journey.
Im in school right now for medical coding ❤️💯 So im excited I found your channel 🥰
You are 100% accurate and very articulate. I love your channel. By the way, I am a medical coder with the county hospital in CA and I work remotely. I love my job, I went back to school after working 23 years as a lab technician. I’m so glad I did.
How long was schooling for this?
@Zane Greb I did the 2-year Associate's program. But...there are other programs that are a lot shorter, like programs from AAPC.
How do you maintain accuracy? Tips please :)
Hi Angie 👋. I've wondered about working in lab, how was that for you? How was the pay? Any info or advice ? Thank you so much! I'm on a search of what to go to school for.
Hi so I am an MLS in the lab and I am looking into medical coding. Why do you recommend this career change?
I work in transcription and I do a lot of these day to day duties. Thank you for the insight.
Hi Victoria I really appreciate you and your videos we really need you out here. I need to start working from home now I’m a Orthopedic Coder for a major hospital here in the Midwest.
You are awesome! Thank you so much for all of this wonderful information. Your videos are fantastic. I’m so happy to have found you!
Glad it was helpful!
Hi Victoria, I have been watching your videos for 2 days now, listening to various stories and information about the coding journey. I am overly impressed with you and your workload and dedication. I am starting an excelerated, 12-week medical coding class that I am terrified to take on now. I was very excited and eager to take this on but I keep hearing SO MUCH about how this is not a piece of cake, its a lot of work, there is lots of reading, you have to be ready for these multiple thick books etc. And I don't hear much that excites me about the job. - Don't get me wrong, I'm no stranger to hard work and dedication.... I worked 2 jobs and school all at once with no core reason to do so other than just wanting more for myself. I would be the first one to my job and last one to leave each day, due to my dedication and hard work. But this feels different. ------- After I had my first and only child, **happy birthday to her today** I initially, years ago, wanted to take this job on not because I was interested in coding, but because it is extremely difficult to find work outside the home with having a child's school schedule to juggle as a single-parent. Daycare's are not only expensive but I don't trust them at all, not even with bigger kids, so that is never an option. I don't have any family that could assist with my child. And my daughter's father is in her life but work's overseas with the military, so I don't have him here to help with her. So I needed to find a job that allows me to work at home when she has her 2 week, 1 week, 2 month vacations, sow days etc, out of school. So I thought to do Medical Coding. I figured it would help me make decent money, let me help others the way I like to help people all the time, take care of my daughter, and be proud of myself to have this wonderful employment I could fall back on if I ever was not able to accomplish my goals with the company I want to start. ----- But hearing all of this information and thinking about my habits of getting distracted and not being able to retain loads of information that well, make me more than nervous and even more doubtful about myself. I just keep seeing people say how much work it is and they say it with a sign of warning in their voice as to almost caution you from being able to do this type of work. It seems to be a job for perfectionists and high achieving individuals. I think maybe that last statement should be said to newcomers interested in this. I have an instructor who wants us to answer questions about becoming a Medical Coder before she sends us our textbooks. Now I see why. I hope I don't get dropped from her class but if I do, I understand why. I appreciate all the time and effort you have put into your videos Victoria. They are VERY helpful just like everyone has said. Thank you again. - Take care and good luck on everything.
You are so thorough and easy to understand. Thank you so much for sharing.
I love love love your channel!!! I interviewed today as a brand new certified coder in a billing coding position that serves multiple clinics!! I feel good about the interview! I will know by Friday!!
Welcome! Good luck on your job hunt!
I am currently a remote medical coder and I am set to take my CPMA exam in November. So happy I found this channel!!
I'm happy you're here!! Good luck with your CPMA! Make sure you brush up on infusion coding!
This was great, I have been researching "free online cpt coding practice test" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Ever heard of - Penailey TelepathicPrincipality - (do a google search ) ? It is an awesome one off guide for discovering how to passing the AAPC exam for Certified Professional Coder minus the headache. Ive heard some amazing things about it and my m8 got amazing results with it.
How is the program going Kerstin Ulbrich?
Thank you Soo much. Perfectly clear understanding of what to expect.
awesome! Thank you for your opinion & all your information on remote medical coding...I'm still so very interested!!! Yee Haw! I have already enrolled in an online coding school and I am ready to code.
Your hair color is very pretty.
Oh thank you!
Obviously she has the means and time to take care of that , extra benefit of that type of job

And super silky looking
My gf nudged me into getting started with medical coding during the pandemic. I was laid off, so I used and have been using the extra time to getting a huge head start. It’s a lot of fun, and I hope I can eventually make a new career out of it. You recently put out the e&m coding tips and when I first started working with that area your vids weren’t out, yet. So I am glad you have uploaded them. Maybe at some point you could make some vids wherein you go through e&m scenarios? I know it’s one of the most difficult areas of the coding job
I actually have a playlist of videos breaking down E&M coding, have you checked them out? ruclips.net/video/VCZgRFR32rc/видео.html
Contempo Coding yes I have, but for me, e&m is still tough, and I think one or two case scenarios would be helpful. Maybe down the road when you are short on content ideas, you could make a couple. I struggle with the medical decision making process.
I'm glad I found this as well. Thank you for your videos! I'm coming from a long career in massage and bodywork dotted with some years managing PT offices/submitting treatment codes to insurance/using an encoder. Hyper aware of the yearly changes! Studied diagnosis codes from dating a lazy psychotherapist who I typed all treatment notes for...I received clinical medical training in high school (in the 90s) including terminology, etc. All I need is a quick *review* of Anatomy/Physiology and Medical Terminology (textbooks I already own), then some ICD-10-CPT-HCPCS coding courses and I could probaby pass the CPC exam easily. Interpreting case notes isn't hard for me. Nor is being a manager in a medical setting. :-)
Thanks again!
Up? Be interested in learning how well you do on your test without taking the structured 3899.00 and up coding curriculum online. I am tempted to try to pass the test without the large outpouring of money...I'm a former Nurse, and taught a&p
I have medical background as well and was trained in the late 1990s in medical offices. I am very interested in advancing and upgrading my skills in medical billing/transcription.
You have no idea how much this video helped me. Thank you. This summarizes everything I was asking myself. I love to search read and be challenged. Especially learn anything about the medical field. I think this job is perfect for me. Thank you for the video it made my decision. So clear, :)
AWESOME!! Best of luck, Delilah!!
Currently in school for this! Couple more semesters! Thank you for the information!
Good luck!!
I am a physician and I am 30...I just saw ur profile pic and I would like to get in touch with u...it might not be the right place to ask u for this but since I don't have ur contact I would like u to contact me if possible....my whatsapp...00923175589291...waiting for ur response
Awesome video! I graduate from UMA in July as a Billing & Coding Specialist so this video got me excited! Question tho.. do they train you or expect you to be an expert right away? I'm nervous I'll forget EVERYTHING I learned lol
I'm about a month out from having my credentials. I hope I can keep up with the work load when I find employment. These were really helpful tips tho!
Thank you for making this!
I greatly appreciate your videos. This is something I've been looking into, through AAPC. I'm looking for where to start, and the best direction to go for school at this point.
Another amazing video 💥💥💥
Hi, I love your channel and all the information you are giving to the public. Thank you so much. I'm in an HIM program and for the most part, I love it. I'm just starting out but looking to purchase things to make my at-home office more conducive for productivity. Does the wide monitor split the screen into two parts so that you have more than one program up at a time? I presently work at home and use my work laptop and monitor, but I hate looking from the monitor to my laptop. It gives me vertigo too at times.
I really wanna have a job where I can work from home!!!! At first I wanted to get my bachelors degree in actuarial science but schooling for 4 years is very expensive and takes longer so i am considering getting my associates degree in HIT and hopefully be able to do remote work and even though they might not make as much as an actuary does it is still really good pay but this way i can jumpstart my dream of living remotely and buying some property mortgage free and do the FIRE movement
Great video! This encourages me even more to finishing schooling 🙏 thank you
You're so welcome!
This was very helpful, thank you.
Hi! Very helpful video. Question, how do you keep up with all your follow ups? I feel like I have so many things going on at the same time and I can't keep up with them.
Thanks for your video! I've been an occupational therapist for about 34 years, dealt with CPT codes (for rehab) and ICD-10 (and earlier) codes, reading of patient medical charts, as well as studied anatomy and physiology. I'm interested in working from home as a medical coder. Based on my health care experience, do you think this would be a natural step for a remote worker in the field of coding? Thanks so much!
Dayum girl!!!!! Your hair is on bomb afff!!!!
Hi! Love your video! What is the best online school for medical coding? How do you become an auditor? Salary? What are the best remote companies to work for?
One good school to go to for medical coding is FTC!
Great video! I've been coding at home for 4 years now and I love it!
Glad you liked it! It's definitely great as far as flexibility but takes boundaries and discipline!
How did you start out?
I am thinking on going to school for it. Any advise?
How did you get started in medical coding?
I went to school for it! Got lucky and got my job right after graduation. Was working from home in 6 months. I know this is not usually the norm haha.
I'm looking to start schooling for this in a couple weeks but I had a few questions! Do you have to call patients regarding outstanding bills? If so do they provide a secure way to contact them? Do you have to call insurance companies? Does the job provide you with a secure laptop or all the programs/resources required to do your job or is this something you will have to pay for out of pocket? Thank you!
Great video, very helpful! I'm already looking into online programs, are there a few in particular you would recommend? Thanks!

Excellent info. Could you define some of the terms you use: op notes, op codes, e.g.?
Glad to find you! Is it true the physicians wrote the CPT/ICD codes themselves, and the CPC’s main job is to review the physician’s codes and type in the online form to insurance companies for payment (for example through the CMS 1500 form)? And CPC handles denied claims too? Are these two main jobs for CPC? Thank you! ❤️
Can you talk about the different types of medical coding certifications?
So glad I found this; I’m going back to school in fall to do this!❤️
Very cool! Good luck to you!!!
Are you excited?
How many years of school does it require?
J8da Hood depends, one or so, depending on your level of medical anatomy and terminology.. Miss "Influencer" is pimping a particular prog. But, there are programs offered by the actual certification groups you will be joining.
@@kitkakitteh oh okay thank you for the info
Since you don't have to go to a physical location and can work from anywhere with wifi, do you feel "freer" as a medical coder? As a HIT, I struggle with having to wake up at 4:30 every morning to go to the same location everyday and do the same thing over & over lol. I'm considering coding because even though I will do the same thing every day, I will at least be in the comfort of my home
Amazing video👏👏👏
Can you post a list of the coding stuff you use? I'm new to coding and I'm about finished with school and I want to make sure I have everything I need. 🥰
Sure, I'll update the video description with that information.
Hey I remember you saying you don’t like using two screens. If you use a big screen tv behind your monitor as an extended display, you don’t have to look side to side all day. Its a bit more like looking at one big monitor. I am also susceptible to vertigo.
That's an awesome idea!
It works best if you are able to have the entire tv in your point of view. With out the computer blocking it. My set up is somewhat back a ways from the tv, but its also big enough that I can read easily.
I am currently taking classes and hope I can work from home someday VERY soon
Good luck to you!!
This was a great video! Thank you for sharing this info with us :). Is this a job that could work for a stay at home mom? I homeschool my 3 kids and am looking for a part time way to earn money from home. Thanks in advance!
It's hard to get a remote job right off the bat, and even harder to do so part time. Most places want a few years of experience before allowing coders to work from home.
I just started my medical coding course through AAPC. I enjoyed your video, very informative! How many cases would you say you code per day?
When going through AAPC did you have prior knowledge to terminology, anatomy, and physiology or did you do the additional courses? And if you did, did they teach you everything you needed to know?
can you do a video on having confidence and encouragment. U give me hope
Hi from Canada !
Q: are you paid salary, hourly or piece work (commission) ?
Q: what is the typical work load, various, busy, overly busy (you can't seem to complete in 8hrs and have to carry over)
Q: International, would I be able to get certified AACP and work for a USA company, while still living in Canada?
Thanks so much !
I’m taking my cpc soon! I’m so excited! My goal is to work from home. Do you think that is attainable when you are fresh out of school? Or should I start in a hospital or dr office somewhere?
Love ur channel btw ❤️
Attainable for sure. Not always easy, but it is possible. I would say the bulk of coders start out working wherever they can within the revenue cycle of a healthcare institution or billing/coding company.
@@ContempoCoding thank you! 🙏🏻 I just recently passed my NCCT certification test for insurance and coding specialist. Would you recommend me going thru AAPC for my CPC since I want to do coding more than the insurance aspect?
I am still trying to figure out what I want to do im tempted to try everything in the health care field and see what i like but i do want to work from home and i found medical coding and billing.
Love your videos!! Any chance you’ll do a video strictly on auditing?
Yes, I have on my list to do a "Coder to Auditor" transition video and eventually start doing some videos on auditing.
Contempo Coding can’t wait! :)
Sooo glad I found your page
I'm glad you found my page, too, Keidra!
Hi, can you code from your iMac? Or do you have some type of parallel software?
Did you start out working in an office or did you start out working from home? I have a bit of medical terminology under my belt as I was taking a medical assistant course for 3 months but I found that being an MA wasn't for me and I am currently looking into medical billing and coding as a career. I am watching more of your videos as well to learn more about it in general as well as doing research online. Are online courses for the classes decent or is a hands on class better from an employer perspective?
Hi, I am about to complete school for medical coding and I'm not very confident in myself when it comes to taking the exam. Do you have any suggestions on how to study and become proficient at coding before taking the certification exam?
are you wearing a pokemon go catcher on your right wrist? that's so sad that i would notice such a thing (if that's what it is lol). i'm about to begin school for medical coding and billing and happened across your wonderful videos! i've subscribed and am glad to know there's tons of uploads from you!
Hello I will be starting medical coding next year and wondering for you working from home do you have your own hours can you do a lot of overtime ? How do you go about finding a medical coding job to work from home that’s definitely what I would like to do and if you don’t mind how much salary do they make 🙂
Hi! I’m looking into getting in this field and I have a few questions.
What do you find enjoyable and what do you find to be most difficult in medical billing and coding?
How do you maintain 95% accuracy in coding? I feel like the hourly productivity goal would give me anxiety 😥
I burned up money getting my masters in psychology (lol) & I’m trying to find other career paths more suitable for me.
This was a great question.
Sherece hello 👋, I've always been very interested in psychology, I enjoy learning everything psychology. I'm wondering what is the downside of getting ur masters in it? What are the negatives that u are finding with getting this degree? Thank you so much
I know what you mean so I work in Auditing and HCC coding. Auditing- things have already been coded but usually sent back for corrections like an investigation lol. HCC coding or Risk Adjustment deals with connecting a signal diagnosis for each encounter and if it's not there or a connection can not be made then we would have to query the provider. I know this comment was a while ago but spoke to me as a coder feeling the same thing many years ago.
@@nathaliaj2070 It really depends on your end goal. A masters in general psych may be too broad and not specialized enough for certain careers. If you find a specialized field you like you typically will need to go back to school to get certified. The masters can be a huge plus if you’re trying to do something like public speaking or if you want to go on to do your Phd. But after I did my masters in psych I discovered I liked working in ABA. I only needed a bachelors for the position I held in that field. However, to become a BCBA I would be a good candidate because I would only need to do 1 year of schooling bc I already had a masters. Long winded but it really depends.
HOLD MY CPT BOOK lol loved that
Hey Victoria I was just wondering if you had any current videos equipment recommended for a CPC work from home setup? I’m struggling to find proper equipment and some of these links in this video don’t work anymore. Maybe a new video idea?
Hi, working remotely, are we able to travel while doing it? My husband travels a lot for work and we'd like to do it together (travel). Is that possible?
Thanks for your video. Curious if you purchase laptop for work, or is it provided to you??
Thanks for your video! I wanted to see how realistic it is to do medical coding as a SAHM?
Do you have a video about how you went about getting your first coding job working from home? I'm an RN currently in school for medical coding, I finish soon and just want to know what to expect.
Hi Betty.... Im an RN thinking about getting into the medical coding field. Did you complete the medical coding course? Looking for opinions from another RN.
I got depressed working from home. It's very isolating and you HAVE to work from home. You cannot hook a laptop via hotspot and travel... the medical records are highly sensitive and controlled... you HAVE to stay home. I missed getting dressed up for work and seeing my coworkers and just people in general. It got to the point where I wasn't getting dressed at all. It sounds wonderful to work from home, but it gets old really quick.
Sorry to read you felt isolated. I worked from home for 8 years (not healthcare related, but also dealt with materials and HAD to be at home). I was glad to leave the in-office, cubicle environment behind and working from home drastically cut down on gas expenses and vehicle maintenance. Loved working in my pajamas, too. I also found an appreciation for being with people AFTER and OUTSIDE of work. While I didn't LOVE the work itself, it offered me so much in return.
I am a Medical Technologist and I've decided to change careers after 7 years. I got burned out really quickly working in the lab. Is this job really easy to get burned out on? I've been heavily considering doing the Coding program at my local college and I don't want to have burnout again. The work from home setting is really appealing to me. Thanks for this video!
How can a well paying job possibly be any less stressful than sitting in your own home typing on a computer? Cant be serious bruh
@@jamesrichardson8379 They asked about getting burned out, not stressed. Burned out means like getting bored or tired of doing it.
Shower at lunch time yup that’s me lol
Love your videos. I am trying to pass my CPC exam this will be my last chance to take the test and pass it. I want to strengthen my skills. I took time out to get my bachelor's degree in Supervision and Management. But I need to work from home for now because of my elderly mother, I cannot leave her home alone so going out to work as an Office Manager is not a choice. Any suggestion that you would give me regarding the test so I can pass it. I have been in the medical field for over 30 years and I have done every position you can think of. I have done medical coding and billing when it was ICD9, the posting, coding, collection so I need to get back into the ICD10. Any suggestion that you might have to sharpen my skills and bring myself up to date, I would appreciate it. Thank you for your videos.
I have a bachelors in healthcare administration, thinking of going into coding as I want a remote job in the future
Ahhh!! How fabulous this video is!! I’m super excited that you went all out in detail of the possibilities of what could go down in a work day 💕 I’m graduating from my AAS program in September and am completing the CPC exam through AAPC in the winter. I’m enjoying my classes but I just don’t feel like I’m getting enough “real world” insight, which I feel is super important when preparing myself mentally, for anything really lol. Thank you! Also, if you find the time would you mind explaining how you may query a physician on a document you feel does not provide enough information? I haven’t had this explained in my classes so far. Love your videos! Tina
Yeah it's hard to get a feel for the day since you can't just drop in for shadowing because of HIPAA and not actually being able to show a live EMR or work queue. I tried to capture all the different stuff that goes on in a day and it's great to hear it was helpful!
Let's see, as far a query here's something I used to commonly send to my providers via email when they would miss things like lesions sizes.
Subject: Coding Addendum Request : MRN 12345678
Dr. X: I'm reviewing the case for {patient name} MRN 12345678 for date of service 8/2/2019. It states the lesion size is 2.0 cm but does not provide a length of the closure. Please review and complete an addendum clarifying the total length of the closure for the lesion removal.
Thank you!
Victoria
The inpatient query process is waaaay more sophisticated. They typically have a much better process built into the system. I admire how brilliant some of those inpatient coders are -- their clinical knowledge is amazing.
Is it a solid 8 hours of moderate level Busy? Or is it sometimes a 12 hour day until you get your speed and accuracy rate up?
Miss Victoria, If possible could you give a thumbnail guesstimate of the number of productive hours you would expect to put in per remote day (eliminating "Dance time" and "Interrupt times" (for various misc reasons)! And to make things quantitatively complete, a SWAG (that's a Scientific Wild A** Guess) on the number of completed patient files are done during the fore mentioned time spent.
Please note that I am not yet even employed as a novice coder, but I do appreciate your approach to your craft and your methods in trying to satisfy your expected goals.
I am a follower and I thankew! - - - gr
Thank you such much for the awesome comment!!
I definitely work 8-9 hours a day so usually a typical 40-45 hours work week plus lots of extra on the side making RUclips videos and webinars and stuff. :)

Where can I get the Scorecards you mention?
And what is the coding program that can guide you through coding a procedure? Your example was, “ gallbladder, excise.,..”
Thanks for the video! How many hours a week you work? And is it flexible?
Most coders work 40-45 hours a week. The flexibility depends on the employers. Some are rigid, other say to just get your hours in any time from 6 am 8 pm.

Is it possible to be a college student whilst being a Medical Coder? Since working remotely, how is the flexibility with scheduling?
i really want to do this
please advise, can a person with inpatient coding license found a remote job without previous hospital experience?
Please I will like to know, as a medical coder does it mean the time the company you work for opens, that's the same time you are to start working from home?
I was curious if this was for me, as I don't like working with public and have bad anxiety. But this sounds like a lot of pressure and uncertainty.
My office is also my room. Is that okay as an office Space? Its nice and privet, my place is a single bedroom apartment
OMG you're so adorable!!
How many days do you work a week? Is this something you could do traveling in an RV?
Is it possible to take courses to get certified for this position or must you attend college?

I took a certified billing and coding online class over a year ago and took my test in a testing center. I passed but NO ONE will hire without at least 2 years experience. Now I forget how to code. It all went out of my brain since it’s been too long. 😔
I understand. I went to school for medical assisting and no one would hire me because I had no experience. Makes no sense smh.
Seriously 😒. How does anyone the experience of no one will hire inexperienced people? Can’t lie and say I have experience and then get there and look like an idiot because I have no clue what I’m doing. Frustrating!
Can you recommend any specific pc or laptop for medical coding, or even mac book laptop is ok for medical coding or else any tablet pc will be fine for medical , if not can you recommend any perfect laptop versions or brand for medical coding jobwork from home
Can you work from home as a beginner or is it best to start with an in-house job first?
I'm very curious about how flexible the scheduling is with this kind of work, and I can't seem to find any good resources online. Are you on their schedule, like a 9-5? Or, is this a career path for someone who likes to be up late into the night?
I graduate in July as one and my advisors have told me it's 90% of the time an 8-5 mon-fri type of gig
I am a certified Medical assistant for 15 years now, I assign diagnosis codes to lab tests and visits, experienced in Med terminology, Anatomy, etc. I want to join AAPC and become certified, but I'm afraid I won't find a job because I don't have actual Medical coding job title experience. I cannot find any part time coding jobs to GET real experience and cannot quit me MA job unless someone hires me as a coder after I am certified. HELP how to I get experience?? ALL coding jobs hiring say Must have experience! My situation is tricky, Help!
What is typical pay starting out as a medical coder?
I am really interested in coding and just recently started watching your videos 🙂 working remotely, how did your interview go or what tips do you have for interviews??
Actually I was working in the office and was then allowed to work remotely. So I didn't interview for a 100% remote job. But that's a good idea for a future video!
I work as a medical coder/biller for a surgeons office mon-fri 8-5 is there an online company you recommend I could apply to work remotely for part time
Considering taking classes soon for medical coding, have been in banking for 4 years and I'm tired of the sales part of it all (especially during a pandemic). Are you able to use a personal computer for the work or is it required to use a separate computer/laptop?
It depends on what organization you're working for. Some will ship you a laptop, others expect you to utilize your own equipment.
I got question. I am medical biller and coder. If I want grow from there which certification should I take to become Inpatient or outpatient coder
I want work in computer but not in the phone is medical records ideal for this kind performance? Thanks
So when you first start out are you able to go fully remote?
