I originally earned a CBCS certification that no employers were interested in once I actually started job searching, I also earned a CMAA certification through the same program. Can anyone with experience in the coding field provide me with any advice on this matter?

So, I recently worked at an entry level Billing and Coding office. My boss pulled me aside and told me she thought I should become an Auditor. I only have the one year experience from that office and I mostly did billing. Do you think I should just take my ex bosses advise and go strait into a Certification for Auditing or do you think I should do a Billing & Coding Certification to get more of that experience first?

Entering the medical coding industry without a medical background can be challenging, but it's definitely achievable with the right training and dedication. It's a field that requires a good understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, coding guidelines, and healthcare regulations. Proper training is crucial, so consider a reputable program from organizations like Preppy, which offer comprehensive courses designed for beginners. The learning curve might be steep at first, but many have transitioned successfully into this field by staying focused and persistent in their studies. Good luck on your journey into medical coding!
I am currently taking the AAPC CPC course. I did not do the live instructor class unfortunately because I just didn't know what was best. I am completely lost. What do you suggest to help me because as of right now I just dont really understand it and I'm almost finished. Just doing terrible and I'm feeling very overwhelmed.
Is there a possibility of dedicating my work hours in the even and overnight from home or are these positions day time only. I can still work during the day too but curious if that is a possibility.
I thought the OCR issued a statement saying that the offshoring is not in compliance with HIPAA since it’s another country so it’s a violation of the law.

My brother gave me a link its billing and coding or coding is this the same thing as medical billing and coding? And also what are major things needed to help you do your job? Or to get certified?
I am a home health PT and work in the field. I am looking for a change in focus and was entertaining coding. I was COS-C certified but it has since expired. What course do I need to start my coding education?

Im about to sign up to start a CPC coding course. I am nervous as right now I care for my elderly mother, nothing serious but I have to take her to appointments during the day. Do you think it would be wiser to wait until Im not caring for her to start this process? Im nervous to start a new job knowing I just need some freedom to take her to appointments. What do you think?
Was a little curious about training for this job, but after you said it involves sitting for long periods of time I just lost interest. Should I pursue coding anyway because it's hot and in demand and it assuredly pays better than any job I've ever had? I hate sitting a long time in front of a computer, but I need to be making money and I'm currently recovering from a broken leg so my usual blue collar type jobs is currently not an option. Is there more about this job that I should consider or am I just trying to talk myself into something I'm pretty sure I won't like? What do you think?
That's a personal call you have to make for yourself but it sounds like you may have to do some more research and personal assessments to come up with the right plan.
I'm currently RHIT certified. Which carries more weight the CPC or CCS? The CCS is much shorter than CPC. Plus I dont want to maintain membership from 2 different organizations. It can be costly. I'm interested in hospital coding. No physician/business office or billing.
Then you'll want to get the CCS. I wouldn't say either one carries more weight, but the CCS is geared towards hospital coding and is the preferred for that type of coding. You also tend to make more in hospital coding.
@@ContempoCoding I have experience in both physician and hospital. Currently analyzing charts to get my foot in the door. I'm an ultrasound tech and am at the tail end of an 18 month college program in medical coding. I chose a college certificate degree program in coding because I wasn't sure if I'd want to move on to a bachelor's in Health Information Management and I'd have a bunch of credits toward that if I did it this way. However....after taking 90% of the courses needed for my coding degree I now know that I have no interest in obtaining an HIM degree! How easy it is to learn when you don't know English that well.
Thank you so much for your reply.
Do you think it is better to go through a community college or go through aapc directly?
You can get cheaper and more focused education through the AAPC but they can't offer grants or financial aid the way a college can.
Great video! I feel like I should tell you that my daughter is named Victoria Goll 😂
Love that!
Ok got it never mind
So, I recently worked at an entry level Billing and Coding office. My boss pulled me aside and told me she thought I should become an Auditor. I only have the one year experience from that office and I mostly did billing. Do you think I should just take my ex bosses advise and go strait into a Certification for Auditing or do you think I should do a Billing & Coding Certification to get more of that experience first?
I am curious about the work load? Do they require fast paced work or most accurate work?
I have a bachelor degree in Political science but 10 years accounting experience. Planning to be a medical biller and coder where do you think I will start? In community college? Or online certification?
How's your accounting experience and why are you changing careers? I've been considering bookkeeping/accounting. Can I hear your insights for the change?
I worked for Aetna for 17 years and now I'm billing for a physician group. I start my online coding class with AAPC in 2 weeks. I got an email to schedule my testing date already, not sure why that is? I haven't even begun classes yet
I am taking coding through AAPC. I paid for cpc and cbc billing but now am thinking I should just taken CPC. I don’t think I needed CBC certification? I would like your opinion? I don’t believe that I can a refund. I was thinking that maybe they could put towards auditing? I hope to hear from you soon?
Rebecca 😊
As i live in india and started training for cpc exam and my question is as i have experience in medical industry from last 3 years and once i get certified in this is there is any chance of getting job in USA and what is basic salary there?
Is there any age limit for this course or job internationally.?I am 30.
I only know there's no limits in the U.S. The concept of having "age limits" on jobs is completely foreign to me.
this is very helpful. i took a coding seminar when i was working for a large cardio group cause i was doing data entry and the codes were in the software. i also aced a medical terminology course when i worked at a hospital so i know i have the skills to do this but concerned about costs of education. but i have phone interview this friday with an online college and will get info before making decision. your videos are so great and clearly yu r aces at what yu do and yu love it. tell me-im 65 is it too late to b considering this career move?
Hi, thanks for these great videos. I am a nurse (LPN) for the past 20 years. After getting hurt on the job, I would like to shift my focus to Medical Coding and possibly Billing. I have done some coding for an anesthesiologist and now I would like to start my own Medical Coding and Billing business, so that I can work from home. Please advise where I should start. Whether it be your videos, online training, etc. Thanks in advance for your help. Michele
Thanks for reaching out. As you can imagine, I get many requests for advice for medical coding schools, and you will find all the answers you need by signing up for my FREE masterclass!

Iam interested getting-in medical coding but I want to be train properly. How hard it is to be in this industry. I have no medical background
What's the payscale from beginner cpcs to advanced specialties like surgery?
Hi Victoria: My college is telling me to take a CPT Coding and Coding Terminology class at the same time. How would these 2 courses work together?
I work in patient registration and exploring a career in medical coding and billing. I'm planning on taking classes at the community college. Where do I start?
My brother gave me a link its billing and coding or coding is this the same thing as medical billing and coding? And also what are major things needed to help you do your job? Or to get certified?
If you're interested in the differences between billing and coding, it is covered in this video: ruclips.net/video/tWBXte0RN8w/видео.html
I am a home health PT and work in the field. I am looking for a change in focus and was entertaining coding. I was COS-C certified but it has since expired. What course do I need to start my coding education?
Do we need to pass any other exam before starting Medical coding?
I just finished my masters in medical laboratory technology and got an job offer for medical coder... But it's new for me ,should i take the job?
Hey! Do you need to attend school for medical coding? Or can I just study on my own to take the exam?
In order to take a certification test, you need to come from an accredited coding course
How to become a medical coder in Canada
Just a quick question.. So once u get a job as a, cpc apprentice do they actually train u fr the job coz the case study we actually see during our courses is very different from the field right
That is really up to the independent employer as to what your training plan will look like.
What’s the best school for billing and coding?
I feel sick that I even tried to do medical coding. I probably have wasted about $3k on a job I'll never be able to get.
Did you complete Julia!?
Just didnt know the route to go because I'm going back to school to refresh my coding skills. I've taken the classes before it's just been years since I have. Thanks for the recommendation!
when you say continue education to keep credentials you have to keep going to school how much woulkd that be or is it a program that a job offers
I have been a MRI tech for 17 years. I want to do this. Should I go through AAPC?
AAPC, yes.
So now I wish I went through AAPC...would've been quicker and a lot cheaper I'm thinking
Thanks
No problem
Hi! Could you work as a EMR tech or EHR tech or something like that after getting certification for Medical coding?
Possibly! That sounds like something that might be more akin to a RHIT certification/degree.
@@ContempoCoding Thank you so much for your reply. Your videos are very informative and helpful. I like your each n every video and always wait eagerly for next. Thank you for your time.
Hi! I have been looking into medical coding certification through my local community college. I have worked in insurance sales for 7 years, but I am ready for a career change. I thought medical coding may be an option. I love routine and organization, and I am also able to complete task very quickly. It’s always scary to start over, but this seems like a good fit for me. Just wondering if you have any advice for the newcomer! Thank you :)
Sounds like a great plan! Just make sure that even if they encourage another certification that you ultimately get certified through the AAPC or AHIMA.
Is there an introductory course online I could take to get a sense of what Medical a coding is like? I’ve watched a few of your videos, but I’m still not sure if this is right for me.
Need some counseling on NASCO application, any suggestion? Any tutor here? Thanks
Hi Victoria, are there opportunities for Registered Nurses to become medical coders? I am an RN, I am interested in changing careers or moving away from bedside nursing.
I can answer that! Yes or CDI Specialist is also a good path for RNs. Clinical Documentation Integrity is like pre-coding for the coder and sorting out the inconsistencies/inaccuracies of the documentation.
Hello! Quick question, I apologize if you have answered this in any other video, however once you pass your AAPC exam can you work in any state? I currently live NC and want to move back home to WA. Thank you!
Yes you can!
Do you recommend Carrington college?
Sorry I'm not familiar with that specific program.
I just signed up with Carrington yesterday. I read the reviews and now, I'm not going to go through with it. Have you started yet?
Do you like Ahima or AAPC?
I like AAPC, they're easier to work with.
I will be taking my CPC exam soon. Is medical claims a good position to work before a medical coding position?
I'm from Agri field with PG in bioinformatics...
I'm interested in medical coding..is it a good option!
Or any suggestions please reply...
Wanting to do the online courses through the AAPC, do you know anyone who has gone through that Avenue versus a trade school?
Tons, and they've gone off to be very successful coders.
@@ContempoCoding Any good online medical coding and billing accredited schools also what are the prerequisites for the school. Also should I take other course to better my knowledge
I have been in the cleaning industry for 10 years (the only thing I've done) would that make it harder for me to get a job with coding?
Any help, my husband is pediatric and general surgeon from another country, here he's an excellent doctor. But his english is basic. He is getting disappointed that can't do anything besides hard work and getting paid dimes. Is there anything that he can learn this and start to do something that is close to his major? For doing this billing or coding, what he can do? any help, any advice. Does he need any certificate for billing and coding?
thank you in advance!
Do you have billing tutorials too?
