- I'm diving into the cinematic catastrophe that is “Eragon.” Based on Christopher Paolini’s beloved novel, the 2006 film adaptation promised dragons, magic, and epic adventures but delivered a stunning failure of imagination. Join us as we dissect every aspect of this $100 million debacle (158m in today's money), from its underwhelming production and incoherent plot to the cringe-worthy performances that bewildered audiences. With a Rotten Tomatoes score as dismal as its pacing, “Eragon” is the perfect example of how not to adapt a fantasy bestseller.

Well I LOVE Saphira's Look and Voice in the movie version of Eragon
I'm completely with you on Voice. I disagree about look. But I'm glad you liked it. Are you a series/book fan?
@@Geeklectica Hmm not really I just Really like saphira (Movie version) But that was it
Was still better than last Airbender movie
I actually do agree with you on this one - And the series was utter tosh as well.
@@Geeklectica you mean the Netflix one? Yea wasn't the greatest but I enjoyed it. It's sad tho that they messed up eragon so much. Had the potential to be the next lord of the rings
@@hefsak I completely agree - ticked all the timeless themes for me. Sacrifice, duty. redemption etc. And who can forget the hero's journey?
Nothing is worse than the dragonball movie tbh
@@DjDoomtrain 😂😂😂
I LOVED this movie as a 7 year old, and i will NEVER rewatch it after this video to save the childhood magic 😂
@@michaelreimer1111 it’s absolutely okay to love it 🥰 - I have some seriously cheesy movies 🍿 in my back catalogue! I would also recommend reading the book series.
i read all these as a child and loved them. theirs defo better work out ther tho lol i just found your channel and im really enjoying your videos :)
Thanks for watching. I know I talk fast. And it’s my voice (not AI) - glad you’re enjoying!
I love the book series. Perhaps it’s nostalgia… but I think I may re-read them.
This movie is still to this day one of the greatest let downs of my childhood - I LOVED the original book series so much & even communicated with Christopher Paolini via letter about tips on how to write as a child (I still have the letters). If I'm being honest, I feel like this story still has a TON off application/could be made into an AMAZING TV show. It has rich lore & worldbuilding, and has really interesting character dynamics. It wouldn't be as dark/mature as GOT, but that might actually make the show more broadly appealing (although I love GOT/HOTD and would love to see more shows like that too).
Also Christopher Paolini, if you're reading this, thank you for the letters and feel free to hit the DM for a fully workshopped idea of how to turn the Inheritance Series into a TV show! 💯
@@JDurham4635 Christopher Paolini if you're reading this - I'd love to interview you!
I remember I quite liked the movie as a kid. Though at the time all I needed to be entertained was some action scenes. When I rewatched now, I can see it's not a perfect movie by far...
On a sidenote: in some parts of the video you're showing movie fragments with the cursor visible on the screen hehe. Just a nitpick but quite distracting, thought it was my own cursor at first... It makes me think that you made a screencapture of the movie instead of directly cutting from the source material, which is a strange choice.
I use OBS. But yes I've corrected now - didn't realise the cursor was visible. Thanks for commenting...... If you read the books - you're in for a real treat.
The book is sorta of a fantasy Fan Fiction of Star Wars A New Hope.
The movie ignored all of that and at the same time, skipped the almost every epic moment in the book to create lower energy boring ones. Saphira magically growing through a storm cloud, give me a frickin' break.
Should never have hired John Malkovich to play a part that was never in the first three books. It was a waste of time and energy.
Seeing how producers and screenplay writers butchered Eragon told me never to watch any live-action movie of a grand fantasy story.
The only successful translation I've seen from fantasy lit to the silver screen was LOTR, and that was generations after it had been originally created.
Hopefully, by the time I'm eighty, we'll be able to get a solid translation that keeps Paolini's greatest moments while smoothing some of his lesser.
I absolutely agree! There was so much they could have done and it's such a wasted potential.
I dont think these books were suitable for a movie adaptation. Maybe an animated tv show, but not a live action movie i dont think.
@@johnaverill6308 I completely agree 👍 I live in hope that we may get a series one day…..
