Did you know that James Cameron wrote Xenogenesis 1978 a short film 12m only? And he used a similar scene in aliens 86 director's cut. When newt's parents found the space jockey's ship. But in Xenogenesis they found a gigantic cleaner robot. James Cameron studied art and physics. worked as a machinist and a truck driver back in 1971. And laborers need to see you working with them so they can get to know that they have a leader not a boss. (Ripley) That's why he focused on technical details when he wrote pirannah II 1982, but it was Obvious in terminator I 1984 and Rambo first blood 1985 Then Aliens 1986. He changed alien 79 from a horror sci fi into a War sci fi in aliens 86. And he used all the elements /characters well. Each character was well developed in the first 40 minutes of the film before getting into war with aliens.
@@gr33n-lant3rn Yes I think that's where the Directors cut shines. The characterisation. I've been told that the upcoming Romulus is actually based on the scenes at Hadleys Hope with the normies and kids just going about their normal lives.
@@Geeklectica as a mechanical eng. And a soldier long time ago. I loved the movies terminator, Rambo, aliens, the abyss.. Before I knew about James Cameron
Agree this is the best sequel ever. Totally broke the mold. The story is paced perfectly and keeps you watching, even after several viewings. The quality casting and acting really stands out and the film still holds up today. if u want to get picky some of the special effects are a little dated but it doesnt detract from the films brilliance. them xenomorphs are still terrifying and the lack of CGI used back then actually helps the realism and immersion which is mostly lost in modern films today almost 4 decades after this was made. Weaver is one of the most badass lead characters ever and the supporting cast are memorable 'Game over man!' and relatable. Bigger budget films that followed were missing the lightning in a bottle Aliens captured. This and the original Terminator were two of James Cameron's best films.
Which do you prefer are you an original guy? Or a Cameron stan? - I love this movie - I missed a few quotes. Forgot "I'm in the pipe 5 by 5." and of course "Somebody wake-up Hicks!". Also - "All we need now is a deck of cards...."
It is in my opinion for Sci-Fi Action Horror the best sequel ever made. They don't make them like this anymore. It beats Star Wars, Terminator, Mad Max - I love this movie. :) Wow 13. I didn't watch it until 1990 and I was a teen at the time and the first one i Saw was the DC with the sentry guns. Thanks for commenting :)
@@Geeklectica yeah my mum had to take me as I wasn’t allowed in unaccompanied until I was 15 due to the rating and mum absolutely loved it too. When the loader door came up and Ripley was in the loader ready to face the queen, the whole crowd stood up and cheered and whooped and clapped. I’d never seen anything like it in a cinema, before or since, not even when Captain America picked up thor’s hammer, and from that moment onwards, it has always been my favourite film of all time.
0:23 In the opening scene of the movie we see a salvage team come across the Nostromo shuttle and find Ripley in hypersleep. One of the salavage team members says, “Bio readouts are in the green, looks like she’s alive!” That’s James Cameron’s voice.
In defense of the sentry guns. I used to wonder why, when Ripley goes back to the hive to rescue Newt, there were few to no Xenos guarding it. Their numbers had been thinned out by the sentry guns and a majority of those remaining had been sent to the colony to get the marines. Ripley then flew to the hive faster than the Xenos could back there.
Quiz for Alien fanatics Private Hudson : Is this gonna be a standup fight, sir, or another bug hunt? Lieutenant Gorman : All we know is that there's still no contact with the colony and that a xenomorph may be involved. Private Frost : Excuse me, sir, a-a what? Lieutenant Gorman : A xenomorph. Corporal Hicks : It's a bug hunt. Another? Bug hunt? Did they fight bugs before? How did Gorman know about Xenomorphs? If that was his first fight mission
the Xenomorph possesses both an insect-like exoskeleton and a mammalian endoskeleton, the former of which has been dubbed a "mesoskeleton" following studies conducted by Weyland-Yutani scientists. Source: AVP Fandom wiki
Most of the shooting was in England. The cast were also trained by SAS (Special Air Service) UK professionals and learned drills, how to handle weapons, and work as a platoon. A hint for: Xenomorph Carter Burke and his affiliation with Wayland yutani
It's all in how Cameron uses numbers to help us connect with the characters and the story. I bet none of you have seen the No. 57 pop up all over the movie. That's not an accident. That's a testament to James Camerons skills as a director
I remember there was a special thanks at the ending credit for : NASA For donating loaders and providing the hangar for the last few scenes. But I can't find any details online.
Loved this! What a pleasure to come home to after a long day at work. I only have one question, and a comment. First off, are you a musician? You mentioned your friend who did their master's thesis on the score for this film. But you also talk about this excellent music with language that would usually come from a musician. And now, my comment, which is just funny stuff. You showed the scene where Bill Paxton's character ribs Vasquez when he says, "She heard Aliens, and thought they were talking about illegal Aliens, and so she showed up." But did you know that that is exactly the reason that Jenette Goldstein pursued the role of Vasquez? And despite finding out it was very different, she got buff and delivered maybe the most physically and humorously badass female character in 80s cinema? Also, l just really loved how deep you dove into the entire cast and how their characters contributed to the overall film. I think this was one of the best ensemble casts in the last 40 years.
I adore music - I can read it and I understand it. But, Alas if I were to sing - I'd clear out all the cats in three square miles. I tried Piano lessons for a couple of years. I can do chopsticks badly. So not a musician just a music appreciator. I also think you're right about the ensemble cast. Funnily enough, this movie always reminds me of the Mass Effect Gaming Trilogy. My second favourite ensemble is from Predator.
This was my introduction to the Alien franchise and although this is a great movie, I like Alien better. This has so many great elements and a lot of emotional engagement. Awesome score by James Horner. Cameron and Hurd treated him pretty badly. constantly re-editing scenes making him rescore segments over and over again. I think what makes the first and second so loved is how different they are from each other.

They are both great, but I have to disagree here :) "Aliens" manages much better to expand on the same universe whilst being very different to the prior movie. It still looks alive and real today. It's reveal is also very epic.
