Hmm, it's best to start the engine for 5 minutes and then check the oil level again ( it allows the fresh new oil to circulate inside the engine, turbo oil line and oil filter.) If not, the oil is only sitting in the engine oil pan, ... And your short of half or one quart. Technican experience 😉 🔧 advice.
Some cars have oil dipsticks that are meant to be read once the engine has been warmed up like this. Many other cars have oil dipsticks that are meant to be read when the engine is cold and has been off for a while. The manual in my Subaru says it is meant to be read cold.
@@182ndNegociator I think that’s only if your checking it after driving, like at a gas station doing a quick check, let it sit off for 5 min first. But after an oil change it’s always smart to start the car and let it run a few min, then have it sit for a few min and re check oil. Helps to get the oil back into all the lines and then check what your true level will be once the oil settles
@@daveroski 5.1 quarts is too much. The oil capacity is 4.8US quarts. When you drain, you'll never get all of that 4.8 quarts out, so 4.5 is about right as outlined in this video.

Would you have any concerns with changing the oil by sucking it out the dipstick tube with a fluid extractor pump? That way you don't have to lift the car.
Question: When people say "give the oil filter a 3/4 turn after it makes contact..." I noticed you just hand spun it until your wrist felt like it moved 3/4. So im changing my oil for the first time after my 4 free oil change from the dealer. Why is the 5qt oil cheaper than 5 1qt oil? im heared good things about penzoil ultra platinum
Because it’s the same amount of oil but like 4x the amount of plastic and packaging. This is a very common thing in any aspect of life, you buy in bulk you pay less..
It was probably there, I made that mistake as well, it's painted over and same color as drain plug, had to use a nice to get it out. If you put another crush washer ontop it could cause leaks.
It’s better to have new car oil changed by dealer (Subaru free 3 years) when vehicle under warranty as I’ve seen engine repairs denied because people couldn’t prove it was done. But good video none the less.
Mine cost $0.01 for the first 4 services (package) . Every dealer is different. But it blows if you change the oil at 1k miles as that counts as a service (the 1st 6k mi service).
@@K03sport don’t quote me on this one, but I’m pretty sure Subaru doesn’t require the 1,000 mile oil change anymore. They break the car in before it heads over to the dealer, but the miles are re set to 0 from factory after they do the first 1,000 for ya
Don’t start the car with an empty oil filter. Step on the gas then turn the ignition. The engine will turn over but not start. This will pump oil into the oil filter.

How many oil quarts does it take? 5.4 or ?
4.8 from the factory Subaru service manual.

I didn’t have a crush washer to replace it so I used a different plug with a gasket. Is this really bad?
Should be fine just keep an eye on it and make sure it doesn’t leak, then next time replace it with a new crush washer

Ya

Is the crush washer on the oil pan drain plug a Subaru thing?
No. It's am oil pan thing. Helps create a seal without getting the bolt seized.
I would love to know how to bleed the brakes and how to change the transmission oil.
Transmission Fluid not oil and you wont be doing that for several years yet, the 2022 model is too new to need a transmission fluid flush.
That is one heck of a small oil filter 😳
Consider the size of the engine and oil levels. A GT350 uses 10 quarts of oil and it has an even smaller filter.
