I went a few weeks ago when it was torrential rain unfortunately , beautiful waterfall and the hermitage was really unique and unusual , especially the two wishing chairs or seats on top of it. I forgot all about the faces carved into trees and the troll under one of the bridges. I did want to swim and attempted to get down the way you got down but its was all sludge and really slippery and couldn't get down sadly. The falling Foss tea place wasn't supposed to shut until 4 I got there at 3 and it was shut lol So it was a bit of a bad day really. Especially when I met a really obnoxious woman at the hermitage , who arrived on the scene and within ten seconds was being rude and demanding people move so she could take her pictures, usually when hiking or on walks everyone is friendly but she was just toxic. I'll go back in the summer anyway and its a great place for families and people who like a easy circular walk with lots of things to see in a short distance

I bet that climb down by the Hermitage is a mud slide after heavy rain! There is a way to avoid that by walking further down then back up the beck, but I don't know how accessible that route is after heavy rain either. Definitely return in dry weather for a better experience!
