Good video, keep them coming. The Cross is a Celtic style cross and when King Edwin was King it was under the influence of the Irish Church. The Monks who taught Edwin about Christianity had arrived from the outpost of the Island of Iona, in the Irish Sea. For Lord of the Rings fans, Edwin's would be assassin, was called Eomer, and J. R. R. Tolkien was Professor of Anglo Saxon at Leeds University before going to Oxford University. He knew his History and you can be sure he knew Eomer, although in the LOTR, Eomer is a goody Rider of Rohan, not a baddie assassin of Sauron. The Assassin was sent from Wessex, and so was Saxon, but all the others including the Cross are Angles. Deira was absorbed into Northumbria. I have a series of videos about the Dark Ages😍 for those who wish to know more.
@@saxoncodex9736 thanks, I did a previous video on King Edwin, Paulinus and the destruction of the pre Christian temple at Goodmanham - All Hallows church & the conversion of the Northumbrians - might interest you.
Thanks for subscribing, hope to get more Bede videos out to you soon - check out my video on All Saints church , Goodmanham for some great history from Bede.
@@victorpearson1418 hi Victor, yes the Lyke Wake Walk goes right past the cross and on towards the sea. I ran it once about 20yrs ago - not sure I could do it again!

@@Church_Searcher Thought it rang a bell , I walked it in around 1970 to raise funds for the youth club football team .
If it's in the North it won't be 'Saxon'.
Anglo-Saxon ok, Angle more accurate, but not Saxon.
Very true, thanks Ron - will amend - I was up all night trying to fix the audio, uploaded while half asleep! Much appreciated.
