      @DeltaFidelias Месяц назад

@@romamoran1337 I mean, it doesn't allow you to do that much emergent gameplay. Been a backer for about 3 or 4 years now. I'll give that SC has a nice level of detail to the ships and player gear, but when it comes to missions, there's not an incentive to play it differently than other games. Maybe you CAN play it slightly differently, but the 'make your own fun' argument could be applied to literally any game, so I don't count that. What matters is what is useful for the player to do.
After 3, almost 4 years of messing with Star Citizen, the amount of content/progress made from the developers is insultingly slim. The game's stability, whether in terms of software performance, or in terms of server stability has declined, rather than improved. They keep introducing new mechanics that don't do add anything of value, without fixing the core mechanics of the game. And their roadmap to fix most of these issues hinges on a pipe dream that is almost impossible to implement.
Their answer to most of the game's performance issues is something called 'server meshing'. Server meshing is an idea that has been implemented crudely before, but what CIG are talking about, where server meshing communicates in a playable speed, is an achievement that a lot of big-name companies have attempted to design, and failed.
What people fail to understand is how much of a leap in technology CIG's version of server meshing would be. We're talking a multi-million dollar idea for working server meshing alone. It would revolutionize any company that utilizes a lot of servers. So, like, every tech company, and a lot of big non-tech companies. Hell, there's law firms that would pay for this. There's been developers that have spent years trying to get this to work with more resources, time, and manpower than CIG is putting towards this development, and they all said that at minimum we're 10 years out from implementing it right now.
And CIG say they can do it in less than a year? I mean, that's bold. I won't say 'impossible' because nothing is impossible. But we're talking like, someone claiming to be able to make a fully-functioning Iron Man suit level of improbable.

As a counterargument, he played the most stable patch of 3.22 and yet this is the experience he had. 3.23 is somewhat better, but the bugs and glitches are still there. 3.23 introduced the replication layer, which eliminates most 30k errors and the new minimap and inventory system is an improvement, but to be fair not much else has changed. It's essentially a reskin. 3.23 also introduced a lot of new bugs across all gameplay elements. So many things are broken right now that I wouldn't touch it with a 10 mile stick. Better wait until the 3.23.1 patch when they fix the most annoying bugs.

Still, over the span of maybe 20 hours or so, that would have been an accurate representation of the game. He was just missing out on his success moments to feel a bit better about all those bugs. ;-)

Meh, I've played SC on and off for years and honestly there isn't much to do. The most fun I've had has been just messing around with other people. Not even doing missions together or anything, but just flying around and chatting. The missions themselves are so freaking repetitive and the few freelance paths you can take will get old pretty quickly once you realise all that money you've been collecting doesn't actually buy you any more fun. You just buy a new ship every once in a while, fly around for a few hours and get bored because the underlying gameplay loops are non-existant.

@@x0myspace0x We had in 3.19 till 3.22 a pretty fun piracy gameplay loop. But they nerft it to the ground for now, which is kinda s shame because it mixed all kinds of content with each other. Salvage, bounty hunting, eva. cargo management, trading, pvp. All part of that liberation of huge piles of drugs from local thugs and re-selling them to the local drug lords while trying to avoid other players looking for easy cargo.
The best part was that only three places in the system could be used to sell your booty and thus pvp was a constant danger when actually trying to transform your loot into credits.

Because the saying goes "When it works, SC is not just a game, it's an experience". You just have to catch it on a good day, and he certainly did not. And every time I see one of these types of vids I just cringe before I click because I know SOMEHOW the person got the worst luck trying to play for the first time. IDK what it is with being a content creator and trying SC for the first time but it goes like this almost every time. I've seen enough of it to know when I can expect it. Instead of hiring new designers and building new offices, they should hire more experienced backend engineers to push out server meshing and stability improvements because it's holding the game back so much. One thing I've learned from watching how the game development has been since the initial Kickstarter (yes, I was an OG backer but have since withdrawn) is that fans of this franchise can be super rabid... through the years, the meme name "Cult of Roberts" has been thrown around because of how crazy some people are at defending this "game". Case in point, the comment right above this one speaks for itself... because lord knows your own experience can't be valid because you somehow played the game before some major patch that is touted as "the fix" that they've all been waiting for. Heck, I also saw a similar situation, a while back, when something similar happened with another content creator... releasing a video about their experience right before a supposed patch that "fixes" things... yet, here we are. I can guarantee you that this cycle isn't about to end anytime soon. I can just imagine it now... it's already the full release of SC, then there are still certain bugs or issues that get highlighted by some content creator... then you'll get the Cult of Roberts up on them again by stating "how irresponsible of you when there's already a hotfix patch on the way in the next few days". It's just both sad and hilarious, really 🤣
I guess I do understand, though, in some ways... having invested not only money into this game's development, but time as well (and believe me, that's A LOT of time burned into tempering one's expectations). That sunk-cost fallacy really does hit hard, which was why I decided to pull out early when I started to see the issues early on.

I completely agree with this sentiment. Just because someone else has a good time doesn't mean that everyone does and everyone's opinion on the game is just as valid. To the simps crying out over the newest update that supposedly fixes everything - I wish! The newest update is in essence an UI refresh with a few new mechanics thrown in. This latest update brings features to the game that should have been added 5 years ago.
It's slightly less worse, but it's still as buggy as ever and the servers still suck. Until the servers are fixed, it won't matter what kind of updates they're releasing. If the servers can't handle the players then there's nothing to argue over. Experiencing constant desync/lag, elevators/doors not working, NPCs standing still or teleporting around, horrible FPS drops etc is not an enjoyable experience no matter how you look at it.

In the newest 3.23 patch they have broken a lot of ships in some way or another. Several (legal) mission loops give you a crimestat rating. Reputation system is broken in some cases (for example some people can't complete bounty evaluations so they can't do bounties). Docking doesn't work. They completely broke the ROC so it's unusable. Package missions are still a mess. On top of all this, they significantly increased ship prices, which directly punishes new players who use basic starter ships. Ship combat is also much harder now, which again punishes new players trying to earn money.
I can't even remember all the issues because there have been so many. In the first 4 hours of gameplay I think I completed 1 mission in total because the game was unplayable (mostly due to server issues). The following days were better, but only if I regularly switched servers (about once an hour). His experience wouldn't be very different in the 3.23 patch because these bugs have been around for YEARS and CIG still hasn't done anything about them. Want to guess why that is? Because these bugs are inherent to the game engine and it's not something you can fix overnight. The game engine is extremely buggy and that's what is causing most of these bugs. Pair that with the unstable servers and you have an unplayable mess.

My first experience with this game was a friend buying me a starter pack, then getting the game to run. After that I spawned in and we spent like 20 minutes getting to each other, figured out how to call in my ship to the dock, went out to it, started to take off and immediately hit a random player hovering near my ship. I was immediately marked as a criminal and killed by the station defenses. I then spawned near a criminal satellite with an objective to clear my name. Outside of this were like 10 players just killing criminals for bounty payouts. I haven't played since.

That's an easier time than my first (and I still play to this day two years later)
I didn't even get to my ship the first time. I walked around Orison, which is basically Cloud City from SW, and enjoyed the sights (the game is really pretty, nobody can deny that or they literally don't have functioning eyes) walked around and bought some armor and a gun. Went to the tram and got on. It was basically a sky bus. Got to the space port area and was about to walk off the sky tram, got knocked off the walkway by the door and fell onto the platform below, broke my legs, then got squished by the next tram. Immediately woke up in prison to a 12hr sentence that counts down in real time. *For having the audacity to break my legs and die on government property*. Oh and the spot I died on was out of bounds, so I was fucked either way if I lived or not.
I came back a week later and tried to figure out how to fly my ship and crashed. Logged out. Two days later after I watched a tutorial I played for seven hours straight just flying around one planet and having a blast. I think I got about half a GB of screenshots out of it no less.
Almost everyone has a shit first experience.

The latest 3.23 patch introduced even more bugs and made the game even more unstable than 3.22 in my opinion, but everyone keeps claiming that the 3.23 patch has somehow been a groundbreaking improvement. Some of the changes are nice, but it's basically a reskin at the end of the day. The last time the game was somewhat stable for me was about 2-3 years ago. During an ingame Expo I explored a big ship and got into an escape pod, where I managed to trap myself. Had to call for help in the chat and wait for a random dude to come and get my stupid ass out.
Another time I tried bounty hunting and died. Came back to reclaim my lost equipment from my own corpse but had to abandon ship, leaving me stranded in a bandit infested space. Called for help again, forgot to tell about the hostiles so one player who came for me had to switch ships. Then I floated through space with my EVA thrusters for like 30 minutes or so and met up with the other random player. We shoved my corpse into his ship and I took a nap on his bed until he boarded at the space station.
I also snuck aboard some ships to steal them, which I succeeded with. Shot one poor unsuspecting guy out of his pilot seat and took his ship for a spin. In another instance I boarded a freighter and waltzed right into the bridge where a whole squad of players was. I quickly ran out and hid, but they kicked me back to the spaceport.

Well, I don't want to be rude, but I think people need to re-learn how to play video games.
In the past 10 years, we've been fed with crappy Objective Oriented games, that are designed such that even 5-year olds can understand, always placing you back on track, and guiding you on each and every single thing that you have to do in-game.
Allow me to carry you to the perfect example. World of Warcraft. I think in 2005 it was the equivalent of what Star Citizen is trying to accomplish today, it had a sense of wonder, you had to read the quests, to read online, to LEARN (a lot of emphasis on this) how to play the game. The developers didn't want to make an easy-ass game in which they guide you through it all with green markers and Objective Points, they just landed you in Azeroth, gave you a physical book to read on how to play the game, and good luck. And guess what, the 2005 Vanilla WoW experience is regarded to be one of the local peaks of adventure gaming.
Fast forward years later after a lot of HIGH Return of Investment decisions are taken, we only get games like WoW Retail in which you are taken by hand and guided through each and every single thing because "we don't have time anymore", because social media and everything modern taught us (or even better, trained us) to only be susceptible to immediate dopamine hits. Companies are benefitting a lot more from games like this, and we fall right into their trap.
I think Star Citizen is the perfect example of a game that has to offer a shit ton of content. But in order to play the game, you need to dedicate some heavy hours trying to document how to properly play it. And it is the same thing in life, everything that is worth it takes effort, and the reward for effort is a prolonged feeling of thankfulness for all you achieved with the effort (not a quick dopamine hit after you immediately accomplish something easy).
So, currently Star Citizen offers (one of the most detailed Space Flight Simulators and Starship Racing experiences, together with a lot of missions spanning from Investigation, Salvaging, resource gathering, Monster Hunting, bounty hunting and beacon assist for other players/AI actors, and there is so much more that will come)
After all, it is an Alpha that you tried. I'd say, put in 20-50 more hours into the game (and reading on how to properly play it), and I really think you will start having a lot of fun.
Anyhow, cheers for the nice video, your editing skills are great and the video was fun!

You'd think after 12 years the game would be relatively bug free. It's why some people think the game is a scam. After 12 years and they only made this much progress? Yeah, it's why I never got into the game myself.
Still, I don't mind seeing content creators have fun with the bugs and such. It's entertaining to watch. 😁

This much progress?? Name another game that does this at this level of fidelity with no loading screens.... Also the time issue is they have a full AAA single player campaign they are making as well. Its about two full games actually. One MMO which they take a long time to make ~6-8 years and two - a 20+ hour single player story campaign with A tier actors. All this from a non established studio that had to be built from the ground up. Not that long when you think about it from that perspective.

I've been playing Star Citizen for years. I play for hours and mostly at night. I also play many other games. For me, it's like playing a sim game where you select a mission, do the mission, then choose a new mission or log out because you have to cook dinner. It has tons of bugs and there's frustration but many times I can enjoy a lot of fun gameplay. It's definitely not for everyone but if you know what you're getting into, essentially you are in an alpha test environment, the game is rewarding.

Fruit, you’ve got to try Elite: Dangerous if you want a proper space sim MMO, it’s a 1:1 Milky Way galaxy in the year 3301 (years pass in game so I think they’re on like 3307 now or something) .. The game also has an insane amount of depth when it comes to customizing ships and the things you can do with them!

Great game if you love getting shit on by the devs for years on end lol. I used to do practically nothing but play Elite... I had Anaconda, Corvette, ASP exp that jumped 50 ly, and then the game was discontinued on xbox. So... embarrassingly I fueled my addiction further on PC only for the game to never make fun changes after like a decade. Walking around the inside of ships is sorta cool now... and I still love that game but man it's more of a full time job unless yo ca capitalize on whatever new exploit or glitch gets you millions in a few hours. In terms of gameplay it may as well be a space trucking simulator. Which I love... but really seriously doubt Fruit, or any sane person with a normal amount of free time would be able to enjoy. But hey props to them for never going PTW to my knowledge. (I am a wild hater I apologize)

Mmm... what some of yall dont realize is plenty of games stay in development for 8 to 10 years before it's released to players. This isn't exclusive to star citizen. The difference is backers are involved with the games development from day 1. Also, 3.23 comes out this week. Which is a game changer, and game development is in overdrive. They are currently working on integrating game features from squadrons to star citizen. The reason why it's taking so long is bc they are developing their own tech. For example.... Server meshing, which is huge not just for star citizen. I'm not making excuses for the game, but people like to bash on star citizen bc its popular to do with zero understanding of whats actually going on.

Missions where a group is necessary are the most fun. Ow, and let's end with the excuses; 800 million buys you a single player story game, called squadron 42, a MMO, called star citizen and all made on proprietary engine, called starengine...all started with some 6 people, 12 years back

fair enough, your experiance is somewhat reflecting everytime i try to show friends the game. Crazy thing is i play this game pretty often and every new patch for longer periods of time, but dont run into those issues that often anymore, since i know how to select a good server, how to server hop if issues start to accour and also know the countless playerdeath that we as players can prevent (iam not saying this is players fault, but a lot of issues are still there because its not finished yet)
As an example (Dont run and use elevators or go near the boundries of the ship while in QT, its a lot better than ever before, but can still bug your model out)

as someone who has sunk an unhealthy amount of time into SC, the bugs are definitely prevalent. however, when the game runs, it's truely something else. the space dog fighting, and atmo dog fighting are some of the best there is when you aren't slapped by the bugs.

this comment is before watching the entirety of the video: star citizen is a pretty complex game with a complex history so dont take what videos you have seen before playing as whether the game is good or not. Also, I would have recommended not purchasing star citizen, but rather waiting for Squadron 42 to come out, it is in the Star Citizen universe but is more of a story single player proper experience where majority of SC funding went to, and I believe 2/3 of the dev team was working on S42, not SC. WIll edit once I finish the video, but im glad to see fruit making long videos
