The story I read is that when donna was auditioning, Madonna asked her why she wasn't singing but she was, their voices just meshed so well that she couldn't tell.
I bought this at the time (over in the UK where sadly it wasn't a hit); I found my cassette-single of it in a box at my parent's and decided to play it after not hearing it for years! So good! I played it on repeat for about an hour! :)
She is so adorable ;) I remember seeing the docu/film, 'Truth or Dare' for the first time, (surprisingly at a $1 movie theater in Tallahassee,FL., where I was going to school at the time.) I had no intention on going to this movie, but it was all my then roommate and I could afford that weekend for 'entertainment'. We didn't even know what the film was about, only that it cost $1 dollar.. I wasn't even paying attention to the film until the scene with de Lory joking around with colleague Nikki Harris, impersonating Belinda Carlisle. But, what really caught my eye were the incidental shots of her while performing on stage. Unexpected, and immediate attraction!! My attention was drawn to her for the remainder of the film . Funny thing, whenever I'd see an old video ,or what have you, related to or referencing Madonna, the first person I'd automatically think of was de Lory. What's strange, though, is I never knew her proper name until today, (4/24/20),, coming across an interview with her, by chance. I didn't even realize that she was a solo artist. I'm deep into traditional Jazz and Blues., some Classical and World Music, So, I don't really know--let alone, keep up with many artists-- outside that. So, finally I'm aware of Donna's name. Unexpectedly, I began reading up on Ms. de Lory and her career.-- and I'm please that she and Ms. Harris are still associates. Thanks for the post! A very, unexpected treat! (Sorry for any typos and faulty grammar. Peace and Light :)
I won this CD. I think I was 17 years old! I can hear Madonna’s vocals especially as the song begins to fade toward the end of the song. I love Donna Delory’s rock style❤😊🎉
Totally sounds like Madonna's music in the 80s. I happened to buy her album. The lyrics once really can speak for you when you are in a situation of distress or heartache. - she is hot in the video and she will be also always remembered as the iconic talented background singer of Madonna by her appearances in her videos and on stage. For me Madonna's greatest music were in the 80s and Donna is part of it.
@@samuelosler1994 Yes but it has somehow the Madonna's 80s sound in my opinion, especially with Madonna as backing vocals in it, too. I mean the melody could fit into the 80s. Regarding production it is late 80s early 90s sound indeed.
Just A Dream had originally been written and recorded during the Like A Prayer sessions. Although Madonna had clearly intended that the album move beyond the boundaries of pure dance/pop and crossover into other styles, she reportedly felt that including Just A Dream would have tipped the balance too far in the direction of rock. When De Lory approached Madonna a few years later about the possibility of providing a song for her first album, Madonna offered Just A Dream, sensing that the song’s rock-edge would be better suited to Donna’s vocal style than her own. Madonna did, however, allow the use of her own vocals on the track, which can be heard blending with Donna’s in the song’s chorus, bridge and, most prominently, during its fadeout. God bless you Madonna and Donna. Sisters in arms in the mighty name of Jesus 🙏🙏🙏 Sounds so divine and looking so good too to be a number one hit to use their talented 👁️ to make $$$ for others and not just themselves
I have had to repeat this song many times, and it goes without saying that Dona De Lory was 50% of Madonna's vocal sound, it just sounds beautiful, I noticed it from the first moment I heard it when I was Madonna's backup singer, but obviously we are very clear that our dearest witch does not need her to be and remain the queen of this kingdom, we simply recognize that Donna has great talent, and how curious that her name is Donna is a part of the name Madonna
Love this song hope it's on Spotify also my 90 year old nan asked Why isn't always Thinking of You from 3 men and a lady song not on Spotify amazing song even my nan couldn't find it on Spotify such a shame its not on there
should now everybody who has the CD write here about it? 🤔🤣 OK, I have the CD single and I have the album twice, with different covers 🤣 but the first album was such a perfect album I listended to hundreds and hundreds of times and "Just a Dream" and "Praying for Love" were both perfect singles - for me, absolute music highlights of 92 and 93, they brought me so much joy, I remember playing the remixes of the singles a lot as a dj as well
I want to upload a video of myself singing this song... I wasn't a teenager when this album came out, so that decades ago. But I still remember too well... This one best ever albums, because of the vocals.

That ^^ is all true (check out "Sat Siri"!!!) but this was written by Madonna and Patrick Leonard for the Like a Prayer album and Madonna decided not to use it.
That’s how she got the backup singer gig. Donna told the story about how when she auditioned for the WTG tour she did La Isla Bonita with two other girls before being asked to do it with just Madonna. Her voice matched Madonna’s so much that Madonna thought she wasn’t singing.
❤️❤️ Donna, a very beautiful lady with immense talent. I love this song, your voice is still amazing xx
Beautiful lady, nice voice, very good song
why was this song not a huge hit such a hidden gem
That pure Madonna/Patrick Leonard magic! Donna sounds so amazing here. And I love you-know-who on those backing vocals!

Eu amo essa música. Tem a cara do Like a prayer mas ficou ótima na voz da Niki.
It's got that very strong Like A Prayer DNA that you get from Madonna and Pat Leonard. Still love it. What a great pop track.
