    Exact same thing has happened to me with my TB60 and the Align 150, gear stripped when the ESC re-started on the ground. Also with a HW150 random shut-offs. But can say I have a HW150 in my Nimbus and it's worked perfectly.

      Hmm! That’s interesting! I have a few 150s in other machines and never had an issue. But exactly like you said if it powers down and then tries the power back up it will break the gear.

    Got the same speedo myself and that auto cut that happened where it killed power for you is like a safety feature the HW’s have I guess. I’ve had this happen with my HW 200 & HW 150 both times with VBar software after I discovered an issue on my airframe. The first time on my 700 the tail pulley set screw came lose and the spike in rpm initiated that loss of power just like your video. And with my 150 it did the same and this time it happened because a motor wire insulation had been cut from a carbon edge and when it arced it made the Esc hit that safety shutdown mode. I’m honestly happy it does that because it hit hold for me and cut power and still let me auto it down with servos working just like your video. It’s a blessing to have that imo.
    Unfortunate the gear went out.

    Well over a hundred flights on ours, using the align ESC that came with the 12S combo kit. I've flown it many 3D flights similar to what you showed there and lots of the Boy learning to fly. I agree there should be a third bearing below the main gear but we haven't had any problems. I'd say you have something going on out of the ordinary, ESC problems, ESC motor timing, a problem with you pinion gear, a problem with a baring on the main shaft or on the pinion.

    • @westhobbiesrc8051

      I’m hoping it just a lemon, everything is tight and straight, no wobble or back lash issues in the gear train. It’s a weird issue. The last gear just blew apart and this one broke three teeth out of the gear. Lock the OWB is locking up and locking the drive train solid.

      It’s really frustrating! It sucks to go fly and charge a bunch of packs up and get one flight and break a gear I can’t fix at the field let alone having to save it every time and put it in! You can’t go wrong with anTron model! They make some great helicopters. I’m going to build a Tron advanced sooner or later. I would say go with a Hobbywing 150 as the 130 is really a HV ESC and not needed on the Tron with a 6s setup.

    I loved align ever since the 450 came out. I remember when I was working at a hobby shop at 16 and the 600 came out, we couldn’t believe it. Fast forward, I lost respect for Align after owning the 500X. The fact that they designed a helicopter that had such a low tail ratio that you had to run it at insane high head speed just to not blow out the tail on a hard tik tok. And then it’d zap anything other than a premium pack from the amp draw due to gearing - what a nightmare.

    • @westhobbiesrc8051
      @westhobbiesrc8051  8 месяцев назад +1

      I too have been flying Align since the 450 came out. I still own multiple align models. And was so hopeful and about the TB series but the TB70 gear breaking left a bad taste in my mouth and now this one.

      @hoffybeefe 8 месяцев назад +2

      RE: 500X - I've noticed that the servo /ball link on the tail servo hits the injection molded boom clamp at full throw. I ground a hole in mine and it helped a LOT with blowing out but did not fix it fully. Then i put something like 84mm tails on it and its rock solid now. Probably only needed the larger blades but i found this out when i first built and flew it before i got blades.

    • @andysofly
      @andysofly 8 месяцев назад +1

      @@hoffybeefeyah I get it. I put some xlpower I think 85s on it. But it’s like still, should you have to do all that? I get they were trying to go with Tareq 100000000 rpm head speed concept but it was just completely impractical in practice. I’ll be excited to see if they come out with a decent TB50 but at the same time, if I’m not flying my Nimbus 650s, I’m flying my RS4 Venom for park like flying and I think I’m gonna be content with that for a long time.

    • @richardmiddleton7770
      @richardmiddleton7770 8 месяцев назад

      The tail shouldn't be blowing out on tick tocks even at 2200 rpm! There are several things that can cause it. Governor gain too high (actually using the governor at all at lower head speeds!), too much pitch, USING too much collective instead of cyclic, tail gain too low, tail pre-comp not set or set in the wrong direction.

  • @bradfriedman9398
    @bradfriedman9398 8 месяцев назад +1

    You already mentioned that the HW 150 is acting strangely. As long as the one way sprag is working correctly and autos won’t try to drive the motor, I would try another or different brand ESC to rule out strange motor commands. Of course things always want to strip when one thing wants to spin and the other thing can’t rotate properly or accelerate properly . Of course, if many people have had stripped gears on these models, then maybe it’s a quality issue. I would also double check the gear meshing and ensure profile of drive gear is not distorted. I mean I recently crashed my raptor upside down into a Barbed wire fence doing 3D and I completely smoked the clutch liner (battery disconnected and could not shut throttle , but it didn’t break a tooth of the gear.😂 I was shocked

    • @westhobbiesrc8051
      @westhobbiesrc8051  8 месяцев назад +1

      It could very well be the ESC powering down and back up. Or my other thought is the governor gain to high and under power commands. It is jolting the gear, but that’s very unlikely. I am going to swap out the ESC and try again before I rule out a mechanical issue. I crashed a NX7 at 2100 RPM, wide-open throttle it eat itself on the ground for about two minutes and didn’t strip a single gear. Lol

    Hi Jeff,
    This is really sad to see, after just a few flights the main gear broke again 😞.
    I fly both Align TB60 and TB70 and I`m wondering about the different main shaft design.
    TB70 has an additional bearing block on the lower side of the frame, who should provide more stability for the shaft especially under heavy 3D loads.
    Let´s assume that the heavy load w/o that additional bearing block at the TB60 series, could be the result in more stress and pressure on the main gear?
    Like I siad, this is just a thought game on my part 😃
    So far, luckily I had no issues with both systems --> but I will definitly keep an eye on that...
    Greeting from Germany
    Oliver

    • @westhobbiesrc8051
      @westhobbiesrc8051  8 месяцев назад

      Hello! That is a very valid question and some thing I thought about as well. There is a secondary bearing block on the main shaft that rides, the motor, pulley and gear to drive the main gear, but there is no secondary bearing block to help support underneath of that gear. Which in my opinion is a terrible design and there should’ve been a another bearing block to help distribute the load between the gear stack.

      So for the TB60 there is only one gear. The TB70 had two different versions. I can’t seem to find an upgrade or better quality gear anywhere. I was so hopeful for this line of helicopter from them but Ihad two different versions. I can’t seem to find a upgrade or better quality gear anywhere. I was so hopeful for this line of helicopters from them, but I am disappointed now.

      The status theory would totally explain the strange HW behavior. HW tend to be solid so something strange is causing the power interruption.
