As a child in Salford docklands, all americans were referred to as yanks or septics (septics came from a 70s tv show) hope this helps 😸👍

You hit the nail on the head with your comments on history facial expressions. He is very funny with the content of his jokes but it’s the character that’s the primary joke. His certainty in his uneducated statements is hilarious to us brits. Britain is the best. Blind faith in that ridiculous statement has long been a joke here. The ability to brush off an achievement such as landing on the moon in such a dismissive manner just because Britain didn’t do it, and to give such a clear expression of disdain in his facial expression as he does so makes me howl.
A lot of people don’t get that the character he plays IS the joke and find him offensive. I think you totally got that. I enjoyed your reaction.

In the UK the term 'Yank' probably got used more due to the George Cohan song, 'I'm a Yankee Doodle Dandy'.

There's also hornets. They're not as common but their sting is far worse. The worst insects in my area are horse flies: in one particular field by the river you will get bitten 10 times an hour while fishing and they REALLY HURT. I've also met a few adders there.

“Yank” isn’t really widely used any more. I don’t suppose you guys call us “Limey’s” very much these days either. Really old and lazy nicknames. Al Murray only uses it here, because the character he is playing is a bigoted pub landlord. He plays this role to poke fun at people who are really like that. It also frees him up speak some truths that “nice” people can’t say anymore. You just have to work out which parts are which.

Brit here. Our colonial history is actaully nothing to be proud of. We just killed everything that was a potential threat. Yes you can go camping on these isles and not have to worry about bears, wolves, or anything else exceptt insects, wind and rain.. But why? Because we ate everything. Even our cats are from Egypt and an an invasive species that drove our native felines into into the Scottish highlands.

10:00 its a bit like Limeys or even Brits, only Americans call us "Brits" and the pejorative "Limeys" (which has always been an odd diss, as it comes from English Sailors eating Limes to avoid Scurvy at sea, which ...is clever, and hardly a good diss, it would be like calling Italians "Olive Oil" to mock the health benefits, which is a little bit ...Huh?, always puzzled me that one)
The French call us Roast Beef which again is n a strange Insult, but at least its a neutral observation unlike Limey which is basically using the principle of "healthy" as an insult? lool
I also admit though Yank is a strange one, because its kind of a neutral descriptor and the good or bad is applied a lot by the context of the sentence, example, a British Soldier in Afghan saying "the good news is that the Yanks are providing AIr Support for our mission" would have a positive meaning to "Yank" in that context.
However a British soldier saying "they have cancelled the air support, bloody Yanks" the Yank then becomes Pejorative., the meaning is supported but ALSO independent of the phrase , but its application is defined by the Phrase, this is not the case for all the other similar nouns in UK English for nations, those are far more pejorative, or ironic pejorative used as terms of endearment, Yank is not the same as far as I can tell, its neutral or negative or positive .
Its actually quite a unique term , I am struggling to think of any other similar Nouns that are so dependent on the context, yet in some cases are absolutely a pejorative and in others absolutely a term of perceived Brother hood/Sisterhood
You literally could make the case for pejorative or positive or even Neutral meanings independently for the same word, but yet at the same time its defined by context
