      Scary spice on 'Bo Selecta' wasn't based on Jim Bowen, the character was based on the stand up comedian Charlie Chuck - real name David Kear - and to be fair was an exact impression of his voice, mannerisms and catchphrases, even the mask and hair pretty closely resembles him, the only real difference being the glasses and the clothing. There's videos of him on RUclips, if you watch some of them you will see exactly who the inspiration for scary spice on Bo Selecta' was.

    Bo Selecta was hilarious, total genius. You have to watch it with the understanding that the comedian has taken these characters and vastly exaggerated their behavior. Michael Jackson is just constantly saying heehee, then theres Craig David who at the time was a really current music artist who was deemd cool but he was turned in to a Northerner (someone from the north of the UK) who keeps a pet Kestrel. It's funny for those reasons but can understand why you don't get it, even some Brits never got it.

All credit to him as he could have been knicking cars for a joyride and burning them out afterwards or learning a trade as a burglar, but instead he put time and effort into doing this and other similar quality TV programmes for the last 25ish years. Davina and Leigh Francis, the actor/comedian playing all these characters were good friends. But in the first series it was all filmed before ever showing an episode. So non of the celebrities knew what was going to happen. Most of them were tricked into being in the show to promote their new song or book. By season 3 most people would not come on the show but only celebrities who were fans would come on. That's why it didn't last very long. But he went on to do a show called Celebrity Juice which is a panel show where contestants have to play really bizzare and often very rude and vulgar physical games. That's had more than 20 seasons and has won countless TV and Comedy awards. Maybe check out one of those.

    Bo Selecta was truly bizarre even here in the UK and full of obscure cultural references (like Kes), plus the regional accents, plus all the noughties celebs. Impossible for anyone to get completely unless you're a 40 something Brit really. Plus this isn't even the funniest parts - it just got more extreme 😂

    Jade Goody (Avid Merrion stalked) was a big brother and celebrity big brother star with scandal and sadness.
    She got herself into hot water by being racist against Shilpa Shetty a very famous bollywood actress in the BB House. Such a stir was created Parliament even discussed it in the House of Commons and ended up issuing a public apology to India. This resulted in her being evicted.
    The two of them reconciled. Then Jade went on to appear in the Indian version of Big Brother (Big Boss) where she was given a diagnosis of a cervical smear test she had prior to entering. She was told she had cervical cancer. And under 2 years she had passed at 27 years old. It did spur young women across the UK to get smear tests done.
    She did have a big personality, and to witness her fade into a shadow was heart breaking. She left behind three sons.

    Some of the prosthetic faces of the celebrities are of other people. Like when he's doing the Mel B character the face is of Jim Bowen, the host of Bullseye, a popular 70s or 80s quiz/darts show.

    • @JacknVictor
      @JacknVictor 6 месяцев назад +1

      Actually, Scary spice on 'Bo Selecta' wasn't actually based on Jim Bowens looks or persona, the character was based on the stand up comedian Charlie Chuck - real name David Kear - and to be fair was an exact impression of his voice, mannerisms and catchphrases, even the mask and hair pretty closely resembles him, the only real difference being the glasses and the clothing. There's videos of him on RUclips, if you watch some of them you will see exactly who the inspiration for scary spice on Bo Selecta' was. What Leigh has actually stated about the character was he did as Scary wast forgive a straight up impression of Charlie, but gave the character the temperament of Jim Bowen, as Charlies temperament was a bit too surreal hnd highly strung and wanted to simmer it down a bit.
      And , to be honest, if your temperament was a bit too strong, surreal and crazy to be used for a Leigh Francis character, then it probably was wise to temper down a bit! Also the glasses were a nod to Jim aswell. But the rest of it, Charlie Chuck.
