I thought the same thing 😂 fellow Aussie here! I actually made Marion’s cherry spiced glazed ham for my little family for Xmas day along with the creamy Japanese potato salad - it was the most epic ham I have ever had! So worth the effort (I forgot to buy cherry jam so made some from fresh cherries 😱 turned out great though!) the potato salad was delicious!!! Christmas in Australia to me is having that big ass ham to carve on the day and having it for breakfast the next morning with eggs on toast 🥰

Dearest Marion, my sweet frugal mom who grew up in the Great Depression (she was born in 1914) ALWAYS made leftover ham salad (like tuna or chicken salad but with ham - and or roast beef, too). She died at age 95 but I always remember her using every scrap of food that we had. Merry Christmas 🎄🎁!!! (PS - she did use a blender when she finally got one!!!). Good job!!!

Marion not immediately knowing the difference between bechamel and mornay; Marion cracking the egg in the rim of the frying pan instead of the counter; Marion so excited with the sandwich; Marion baffled by american incomprehensible measuring. Marion just being a normal human being instead of a snotty, pretentious, ridiculous wannabe chef. That's why I love this channel!

OMG Marion you are killing me, I’m surprised that I’m able to write as my arteries closed after the first recipe..........I’m a huge fan of ham, I always looked forward to the end of the joint as to me it’s the gift that keeps on giving............always took the ,last good chunks and minced them for sandwiches with just a teaspoon of a good mustard and always green pickle relish....made the best ham salad sandwiches ever........then we would simmer the joint with broth , celery, carrots, onion, bayleaf .and green peas that had been soaked overnight and had a gorgeous pea soup with chunks of ham , which is a Canadian favorite............so happy I found your chanel.............Donna in Toronto

You can freeze the chopped ham, and pull it out to thaw when needed. It is delicious, and so easy in a pinch. I don't use egg, and add sweet relish in my ham salad.

I made your cherry spiced glazed ham for my family Xmas day - soooo worth it! Along with that creamy Japanese potato salad - I had veeery satisfied kids that day! The ham was epic! I made a Korean inspired rice bowl last night for the fam - diced up the ham and sautéed it in a pan with a splash of soy sauce, added the sticky Korean style rice in a bowl and arranged shredded carrot, cucumber, edamame beans, home made kimchi, shredded green onions and topped it with a slow cooked fried egg from this video (croque madam) finished with sesame oil, soy sauce, sprinkle of sesame seeds and the toragashi. Was suuuper delish. Thanks for the inspiration Marion- I love your cook book too - have it at hand for more inspo xx 🇳🇿🇳🇿🇳🇿🇳🇿

Ham Salad is my Dad's absolute favorite. It is better as a sandwich, I think on toast. I suspect this is a Pennsylvania Dutch recipe, using up the little weird bits of ham. I can remember my Grandma using a meat grinder attached to her kitchen table to grind up the ham. She never had a food processor.

Another dish beloved in many parts of the US that you could make with a meaty ham bone: red beans and rice. Again, I wouldn't try to Instagram it, but it's a bowl of warming comfort in the winter.

For the ham spread - try a handful of walnuts, a thumb sized piece of onion and maybe 8 to 12 oz ham. Blend without the Mayo, and stir in only enough Mayo after you blend to hold everything together. Elegant and nice texture 😀. This is what my mother from California made for parties. (My husband prefers the version with mustard and Mayo and pickles.). Really fun video and I am definitely trying the Dan Dan. Thank you.

That ham shank is one of the best treats from a baked ham! I always simmer it in water like you did, and take it out when you did (before all the flavor is cooked out), then make a pea soup or a Tuscan white bean soup with the broth. So delicious!
The shank (along with some nice chunks of ham) get put in the freezer so I don’t get weary of “ham fatigue”!😉
I also always make some nice thick ham steaks seared in cast iron pan until they get a nice caramelization, and serve with yams and baked squash with maple syrup. It’s a great way to use up leftover ham but with very little work. Also works with some fried eggs.

In Austria we literally have ground Ham around the year 😂😂
    It is called 'Haschee'.
You roast it with onions and cooked Macaroni (Haschee-Hörnchen) or fill it in 'Knödel', made out of like a Potato Gnocchi dough (but we have a lot of different Knödel, if course).

I would love to be one of your neighbours if you turned up with even a half eaten ham!
If I have a bit of ham left over, I often cube it, fry with some sliced onion, put it in the bottom of a dish with some cooked peas, top with cooked cauliflower and cover with a cheese (mornay) sauce, sprinkle over grated cheese and put it under the grill (broiler).
Although I use cheddar (the stronger the better) I am sure that it would work with many other cheeses.
Alternatively, I do another dish with sliced onions, sliced courgettes (zucchini) and skinned and sliced tomatoes cooked until softened covered with a mixed breadcrumb and grated cheese topping again browned off under the grill (broiler)
Both those dishes started off as a side dish (cauliflower cheese and Courgettes Provencale) to which I added the ham to turn it into a compete meal.
As for the quantities of each ingredient, it just changes with what I have, or what I fancy on the day. I will often cook a thick slice of gammon and cube that (freezing any excess) if I don't have any left-over ham.
