    • @fighttips
      @fighttips  4 года назад +146

      Yes absolutely, Gonzalo! Standing your ground with a firm teep, side kick, long knee, jab or cross to the head or body is a great way to stop forward pressure. I was going to save that for another video, so thanks for dropping the comment 😄👍

      @@fighttips just wanted to mention that getting off angle can be defined simply as the L-step. Not trying to be a know it all, just helping throwing terms out there to encapsulate ideas clearer.

      RUclips Commentator if you’re having a hard time following up with feints, you may be not planning them well. First, a feint only works if the person has been hit by that technique and is somewhat scared of it. For example. You dodge a cross from them and then land a solid left hook. Now they are aware of your left hook, and will either try to block, dodge, or counter it next time they come that close to you with a cross. Here is where you feint. Fake throw the left hook(and make it look real. They won’t fall for it unless it’s real looking) and then follow up with whatever is the most available. If you don’t really get a follow up punch, and all you did was feint, he fell for it, and you messed up on following up. Use this moment to try and remember the image of the fighter you are with and what position he was in when you did that feint. What spots were open, does he always defend a left hook in a similar way? Once you find habits on how the other person likes to defend attacks, you can then poke holes in it with your arsenal.
      Sure, if someone is a really good martial artist they can feint you out without having to figure you out completely first. The reason why is that their brain is reacting at a fast enough speed to narrow down and choose what attack to use after the feint. They respond quicker because of more time in the ring. They’re used to it. They also recognize patterns faster, like if you drop your back hand a tiny bit right before your cross. That’s a common thing that a lot of experienced people will pick newbies apart in sparring over. I have no idea your level of experience so I don’t really wanna call you a newbie, but I hope this stuff helps you out.
      Remember, you’re feinting not to hit them, but to study them. Land attacks and see how they look to block them. Imagine throwing a round kick, and a guy defends it really well. In that moment if you didn’t throw that kick, but he was in the guarding position, what targets are open at first glance? Great, now the goal is to throw the kick in a way to make him feel like he has to block it, but for you to hop into the proper position to land those clean shots you just planned out. After a while it becomes instinct. Just takes experience man 👍 I’m not the greatest at it either, but being aware of what it takes helps me improve

    Funny story: During my first spar, I forgot to circle and my opponent backed me up against a wall, I held up my hand and said "wait wait" He froze in place and I walked around him and reset up with now him back against the wall. "Okay, now I'm ready." And as we started trading blows we heard our coach yelling across the room "I don't know which of you is dumber?! 'Anon' for being backed up against a wall and "pausing" a fight, or 'Partner' for letting him then set him up against the wall?!"
    He was an amazing coach he always said "If it works, then it ain't stupid."

      I was in boxing, sparring a guy with over a year ofntraining who wasngetring ready for his first amateur fight .. my experience was in pointstyle karate type of sparring... So, i was basically doing single punches in and out and he would swing wilder and wilder punches out of frustration... He ended up literally RUNNING to chase me out of frustration... Until he cornered me, and i decided to drop into alow stance duck under his punch and go behind him, wich would have been a great oportunity to have him cornered, but instead i just got right to the oposite corner... And we would go back and forth from one corner to the other like that... There was video of it... He threw about 800 punched and landed anout 20... I landed all the punched i threw but mostly just escaped the whole 4 rounds

    Dude, this video just helped me overcome a barrier I've been facing for over 5 years as a taekwondo fighter. I'm a heavier and less flexible guy so I often just walk through most strikes people throw at me but recently I've been trying to evolve and get closer to that flashy, intelligent style with smart footwork and top tier shot placement. Footwork has been my main focus since covid forced us into lock down and this really helped me make a breakthrough in terms of my defense. It never occurred to me to cut angles and crowd my opponent at the same time but it's clear how effective it can be. Definitely gonna be trying this in my next sparring match.

    One of the most memorable things I learned in boxing was to avoid moving back or leaning back. Even the pros do it sometimes, so it’s tempting, but it’s bad form. It’s especially tempting because backing away is the most natural response to punishment, but you can’t do it because once you lose footing the punishment is much worse.
    Oftentimes you can see Muhammad Ali skipping backwards before a jab or Floyd Mayweather leaning back in the pocket, but people have to understand they’re just doing that because they’re athletic and they have high IQ, they can get away with lazy moves when they want to rest. Moving back or leaning back won’t win any fights, you have to be moving forward or working an angle.

  • @gingercore69

    For self defense situations (or when in sparring it makes sense ro create as much distance as possible)I use a tenis footwork technique you basically do the step back placing your feet paralel and slightly droppin your weight 50/50 on them... Then you step to the side with an explosive step...covering slot of distance... Ive used it against a grappler to create a kicking distance once... But mostly use it to run away when surrounded on the streets
