This is what a real hard rock band does: It jams, makes mistakes, which is no problem, laughs at everything, especially ignorant critics, works yet plays, lives on stage for the thrill of it, not trying to impress anyone, just being themselves, surprises themselves and everyone else, too. It's a fat, juicy slice of real life with all the emotion, tragicomedy, and energy. And they're having the time of their lives, inviting us to join them in their worshipful awe of mysterious, undependable existence. Rock on, bros and sisters. They're often great, but always human, and it's amazing, if you understand what and who they are: fallible human beings having a good time using some loud instruments and one loud voice cheerfully shouting at the universe. They may be around forever, or they may spin out of this orbit they've found and go on to god knows what: better times, hard luck, but for now they're rocking our lame asses. They make it look so easy. I guess it takes a million of us losers in order for the universal DNA casino to come up a winner like Greta Van Fleet. And, sadly, many people will never get it. It's just not in their stars.
Most musicians will "get" what's happening here. The birth of an act that can actually play. This is magic. We saw so much of this in the 60s, 70s, and 90s..... and here it is happening again. Thank God!
I'm 65 and I also loved Led zeppelin and these young men brothers and friend. For growing up together. From a garage band to stardom. It's crazy but ya gotta love um. I think they are Amazing simply amazing 😮 gotta love them.❤ Rock and roll is here to stay.😊
There will be those who like and those who don't. Many times it's just comes down to personal preference. I like their sound and think they are really, really good! In our current day of otherwise over hyped mainstream garbage I find this band a much needed breath of fresh air!
i used to feel bad cause im too young to see Zep live, but nowadays it feels good to know that we are able to go and see a band like Greta Van Fleet live. This music is greatness
honey, this is not led zeppelin, they r a really bad poser group w/ a God-awful singer. check out the real thang-led zep 2 on here. my personal fav is that album. this is a rip-off, ok.
I don’t get why people are so butt hurt... we love GvF, you can clearly hear so many influences and singing like that requires so much practice and technique.... people can say what they want, if you don’t like then don’t listen, in the meantime we will enjoy an amazing 26 minute mash up of improvisation, skill, bunch of good snippets of songs (which is really hard to make sure you can smoothly insert it in something like this like all the members gotta really be in sync)... this is just 26 minutes of pure gold... rock on!
@@SgtJuls they cant move on bro they are the one who are destroying rock music because of their sht mentality its 2019 and this band should've get what they deserve for bringing classic rock back into the stage
Right? All these people bitch and wish for 70's rock to make a comeback . Then immediately shit on any band that tries cause they sound too much like "insert band xyz".
I think recently his voice has been more tired than usual. I hope it's because of the tour schedule and not that his vocal cords have been strained or even damaged :(
It’s not Josh’s live vocals... it’s identical to the studio version. He either lip synced or overdubbed it in post... it’s the same vocal track. EITHER WAY, GO GVF!!
Okay. Im fricking 60. I was in a total dive bar and this was playing loud. I was like wtf is this song, I need to know. I Shazamed it and this came back. Super cool new music..and long long overdue. We may of just been saved ! Thanks guys. Best of luck in a brutal industry!!!! We totally need this.
Im 59 ( nearly )... and ive never got emotional over a rock compilation .. I have now ... I can die knowing ( hopefully not that soon ) proper .. and I MEAN proper rock is safe in these guys hands ... CREAM .. is so predominately involved in this track .. and I BLOODY LOVE IT ...
I heard or read he absolutely refuses to use autotune, which made me love him more. I refuse to listen to a band that can't reproduce their sound live.
As a 57 year old guy, I'm diggin' this. So refreshing hearing a band jamming and getting down. I don't mind the Zeppelin sound alike. Let them rock it out and bring the young generation back to real rock music! Go and Grow GVF!
A few people have come back and pointed out that 8:24 is actually a tease for what would become Built By Nations but the absolute shocked look on my face when I first heard Built By Nations for the first time and instantly realized it was from this video because I've watched it so many times was incredible because I couldn't believe they made a whole song out of it
The first time I heard that riff from Built by Nations I thought it was a Led Zep ripoff because I'd heard it so many times, but couldn't figure out where. Turns out it was from this video because I used to watch it a couple of times a week.
Feckin epic. I heard Black Smoke Rising on WMMR and that was it. It sounded like Led Zep, Rush, Janis Joplin, and more. But it was also original. These guys are legit. Pay attention because this is real rock. They know what they're doing. I truly hope they can find enduring success as a band and as a family. Wow.
The vocals are another instrument. When the instruments solo, the vocals are impressive but do not cover up the guitar or bass. They are an addition. These guys are tight.
Im 51 years old and I haven't heard any one play music like this since the 70s and I thought good old fashioned rock and roll was gone I guess i was wrong. I want to go to a concert now.
I'm 61 years old and I LOVE THESE KIDS!! Not only do they remind me of ZEP but, I hear Jake remind me in a way of some Bonamassa style. Jake's SG is awesome. This video made my day!
Thank God. I didn't think it was possible to get any good music nowadays but a miracle has been done. It's so refreshing. For anyone who criticizes them for copying I guarantee your favorite artist copied someone.
Like every blues player/singer ...All the english bands were heavily influenced in the late 60's and early 70's by the blues. And I thank them for it. All sound is built on sounds before it. I don't know why people see this as a bad thing.
literally couldn’t believe this was actually live until he said “believer” bc it sounds EXACTLY like the recording like this performance is unbelievable
It’s not to often I like a song the first time I hear it. This is the first time I’ve heard this song and dam what a banger. Ive also only heard 4 songs from this band and they have all been dam good.
@Carol Harris but, that is half their fan base right now, and lucky for them the old men can afford $85+ a ticket for themselves and their grandchildren, which are the other half. I know there's more, but you see what I'm getting at. It's fabulous they put themselves in a place that appeals to so many people. I wish them the absolute best. Bands like them and All Them Witches out of Nashville (who look pretty young) give me good feelings about the future of music. #🎶👍😁🎵
People want to knock them for a "Led Zeppelin wannabe" band are ignoring the fact that these KIDS have achieved a perfect, truly authentic 70s sound in the age of boring, rubber stamped garbage. Imagine how much better they'll get with age.
They’re NOT trying to Copy Zeppelin. I don’t think that they should take it as a criticism, gosh if you can sound like Josh does without trying, more power to you. Great musicians, great sound.
I was in high school in the 70s ....saw alot of bands and zepplin as well .....1st time i heard these kids i was impressed .... Great chops and great music !!
A rare thing indeed ... I even had too visit the doctor too see if there was something amiss with my ears .. reminds me of our dear departed jack Bruce ...
Do they sound similar to Zeppelin? Damn right they do. Do they stand on their own? DAMN RIGHT THEY DO! Skill is skill and these guys are GOOD no matter how you want to slice it. GO Gretta VAn Fleet! Keep up the AMAZING work!
I am a 17 year old kid from a small town in Australia, and I recently had my heartbroken by not being able to see kiss since they cancelled their Australian tour. I can now sleep at night knowing that these blokes are around to create some of the most soul filled rock'n' roll that I've ever heard. Gives me hope for the minority of my generation that still listens to this sort of music.

I think this was also before they had released Brave New World on AotPA. They've had a lot of their songs in play for some time. Heat Above goes WAYYY back.
This could be a bad thing. Personally, I still listen to their EP but now it doesn't seem hype to me anymore. I love When The Curtain Falls and this one a whole lot more. They just toured on that EP and now they're about to embark on the new album tour. I'm not sure I'll ever hear their EP stuff ever again live. Hopefully they don't continously 1up themselves.
As a Led Zeppelin fan, I had to do a double take when I heard this guy to make sure I wasn't hearing Robert Plant or was hearing some unreleased and undiscovered tracks. These guys are truly remarkable. This is rock and roll at its finest.

Mateus Rezende Ribeiro Lololol Don’t be so bitter because you’ve only been able to grasp the slightest taste of what good music really is. Luckily for you, Greta Van Fleet has rewarded our punitive generation with something worth listening to. Back in the day though, talent wasn’t so hard to come by.
@@laureneek if you call a shitty, watered down copy of Led Zeppelin a reward, then music is in a pretty shit spot. People want originality in musicians but shun any that try to experiment and make new music, while this carbon copy gets praise because it sounds the same as their beloved band from the 70's. Makes no sense.
I'm 71 and Zepplin was high school for me and I saw them once (they didn't sound that great) The first time I heard GVF I didn't have a clue who they were but I thought "AWESOME! A Zepplin knock off". When I found out they were so young it made me smile :) I wish my grandkids played music like this. Hell, I wish they played any kind of music at all. Peace
I mean seriously??? This is freakin fantastic. 99% of the crowd has no idea of the absolute talent they are standing in front of. The only hope and change I've ever needed in the last 30 years. God bless Greta Van Fleet and God bless the USA!!! Rock on youngsters, don't ever stop!!!
@6:06 Jake has the slide ready for the next phrase of the song. However, if you noticed he doesn’t even use it till 23:57. That’s how you know this is an improvised song at its finest! They are actually winging it on stage during a live recorded performance!🙃😲 These Guys FUCKING ROCK!
This is absolutely unreal. Truly a rock and roll with talent. Such a band to be remembered. They are all such talented musicians and I can't wait to see them live.
I'm 65 and I'm an old rocker, I playing guitar as hobby, one of my prefered bands was Led Zeppelin and I've begun to listen you cause in the first time you remember me them, but now I can say that you are a very complete band with awesome sound.
. . . sounds like *Led Zeppelin*. Led Zeppelin, but with concerts where they aren't strung out on drugs, and a singer that doesn't have vocal nodes due to neglect. I think they actually do live led Zeppelin better than Led Zeppelin ever did, especially after the Led Zeppelin Australian tour.
@@AM-xk3or They're still brand new. Led Zeppelin when they'd only been playing regularly for a year or so like these guys have could blow them out of the water. Also none of them besides the singer are even close to the talent the original Led Zeppelin had, and even the singer is just a good Robert Plant impersonator.
@@TuxmanXP Lol... ZEP was a behemoth of a band, that reached the highest of Rock & Roll, legendary status! Huge Zep fan!!! Page was a riff master! Unfortunately ZEP was an incredible studio band! Also Unfortunately, Page was one of the sloppiest live guitar players ever!
Jake is only 3 years older than me and I look up to him for inspiration. These guys have such raw talent it’s insane. And to be as young as they are. Damnnnn they’re already in the hall of fame in my opinion.
No i basically conceded that I cant argue it, because you swayed me to your side of the arguement. At first I was like, thede guys are so good to be so young and i just wanna rest on that and enjoy them. But at times, like when I see the guitar player leaning back like he does, im like, Oh come on guys at least hide it lol So yeah im saying i agree with you, and others, now more than ever
Juno Donat Who the fuck cares if they sound like another band? Led Zeppelin is gone, it’s time for another band to take their spot. For me its a lot better that they sound like Zep because they’re the only ones doin it and getting recognition. Robert Plant approved them so I don’t don’t what you’re whining about.
Unbelievable! How can a band of young guys play oldschool rock so intense and ambitious? They sound as if they were 30+ years on stage.Wow. They have a great future ahead of them.
Sorry, I forgot to mention the world music influences in Josh’s vocals. Mid-oriental style. To anyone interested, I recommend checking out the Swedish singer Jenny Wilson, “The Future”, whose innovative style has also been inspired by middle eastern music.

HOOOOLLLYYYY SHIIIIT.....by far the best rendition I've ever witnessed. ..I blocked 3 phone calls as not to be interuppted by this pure magic...I caught a smile from Jake...I wonder what Sammy is "saying" when his mouth is moving? Is it just that he's into the jam? My god, Joshs' voice is IMPECCABLE here, just crazy....I will be watching this over and over...Danny should be wearing gloves so he won't hurt his fingers again; he's a monster on those drums, man...I wonder if they realize they are the new Rock Gods yet?☆☆☆☆
@@roxannemoser he said in an interview that since he's the front man, he has to look "his best". When his hair was longer it was really wavy, but not like Jake's, weird. They make it look so easy. I guess it takes a million of us losers in order for the universal DNA casino to come up a winner like Greta Van Fleet. And, sadly, many people will never get it. It's just not in their stars.

I don’t get why people are so butt hurt... we love GvF, you can clearly hear so many influences and singing like that requires so much practice and technique.... people can say what they want, if you don’t like then don’t listen, in the meantime we will enjoy an amazing 26 minute mash up of improvisation, skill, bunch of good snippets of songs (which is really hard to make sure you can smoothly insert it in something like this like all the members gotta really be in sync)... this is just 26 minutes of pure gold... rock on!

I think recently his voice has been more tired than usual. I hope it's because of the tour schedule and not that his vocal cords have been strained or even damaged :(
Finn the Jake and Dog the Human his voice got damaged as early as '73 apparently. Hopefully josh learns from past rock stars lol
It’s not Josh’s live vocals... it’s identical to the studio version. He either lip synced or overdubbed it in post... it’s the same vocal track. EITHER WAY, GO GVF!!

I heard or read he absolutely refuses to use autotune, which made me love him more. I refuse to listen to a band that can't reproduce their sound live.
They are the same, I lined them up that must mean they used this vocal track on the studio version
8:25 so that was "Built by Nations" all along. I'm so happy they used this riff for a hole song, it deserves.

The first time I heard that riff from Built by Nations I thought it was a Led Zep ripoff because I'd heard it so many times, but couldn't figure out where. Turns out it was from this video because I used to watch it a couple of times a week.

That happens when your improvise. If you listen to early Page, you can hear his latter songs emerging in his improvs.
