I went to a rally race with my best friend a few years ago and got hooked. When I told my mom she got mad at me and basically said “girls can’t race” I’m more determined now. This helps

I started as a mechanic on a rally team, then I got the chance to get in a car as a co-driver for a couple of years, i'm now really interested in becoming a rally driver, i've tested couple of cars, got some seat time, do you think i still need a experienced co-driver? they are not cheap around here... great video!
You already have experience as a co-driver, I think you are good. You already know the logistics of that first rally. I think you just need to find someone willing to do the job and has a strong stomach.

Older models of Hondas Civics are great for rallying
But the fun thing is, that you like your mini and you enjoy driving it. Im buying a mini next year and I'm going to just strip it and put suspension and all terrain tires. I do food delivery and streets where I live, Massachusetts the roads are horrible. So that's why im going with a mini,not so long for parking and its like a go cart.

Finally doing my first race soon at Thunderhill in my Camry. I might keep it in stock class just cuz she's my daily driver, but I am pretty excited! Of course I put a better sounding muffler on, though. Been interested in rally since I got a Sega Saturn for Xmas way back when with a demo of Sega Rally.

What age should you start at? I’m 15 atm and wanting to become a rally driver and i live in Sweden. I am currrently looking at some volvo 240s, but my family isn’t so supportive.

I'm pretty sure any age is fine in Sweden for grassroots events like rallycross. Whenever you can get your hands on a cheap car that's a common platform.

i just got a sim wheel and i’d say i’m a pretty amazing beginner rallycross racer. rallycross or gt3 has been a dream of mine for a year or two now, and i’m 14. i know sim racing isn’t anywhere close to real racing but hopefully i can learn a little :)
You would be surprised. There are real rally drivers that can translate their skills into the rally sim and make it look easy

My questions:
1) Are there any age restriction on rally racing, what is the good age to start rallying?
2) Are non-local people allowed to enter rally?

1. Depends on what championship you are trying to enter I would assume, but you definitely need at least a normal drivers license for transit

How often are the race events? I keep looking around and I can only find 3-4 events nation wide.. and they are a few hundred dollars to enter. Rally ready is the only thing close to me but they do not hold any actual race events and cost $300 for "free run" track days when they decide to hold them. I want to start racing but paying $300+ for a single event three or four times a year does not seems steep after hearing you say its $30. How do you find events? Thanks!
A lot of the 2020 season was canceled, unfortunately. Also unfortunate for you is if you are in Texas, you are in the worst place for US rally. Nearest stuff to you is probably the Missouri rallies (100aw, Show Me, and Missouri Ozark), rally Colorado, and Gorman Ridge. Check out ARA's website and Nasa Rallysport. On the plus side, I know there are rallycrosses happening in Texas, but I'm not sure where in the state. Check out scca for those

I’m 14. How do I start in the right direction
Unfortunately, you won't be able to drive in rally but there are probably volunteer rolls you could do, I just doubt they would be anything on stage. Maybe look into some sxs racing. I know there are junior leagues out there, I just don't know how many and what restrictions are there cause I'm not involved in that scene. I would say start emailing organizations asking what you could do for them. That's going to be the best way to find out.

Good news for you. ARA just lowered their age limit, yesterday, from 16 to 14. You will still have an issue driving, because a license is required for that. However, this opens you up to co-drive if you can find a driver willing to take you on.

In Italy we have a very cool rally category called "Racing Start", Racing Start's are litterally stock cars with a setup and safety measures. And it's a super low cost category, a car can cost €5.000 and €1.500 for a rally.
Too bad you can race these only in italian rally's who are not FIA certified :(

Good advice!! As someone in the UK - if you wanted to build your own rally car I'd definitely have gone for an original mini Cooper over the modern BMW built version 🤣🤣
While original minis are super cool, it would probably be hard to find one in good shape in the US.

Absolutely. If you are in the US, check out SCCA's website. See if there are some rallycrosses near you. You can even do it in your stock daily driver if you wanted to.

How do u find events
Depends on your country. In North America, check out the ARA, NASA Rallysport, and CRC websites for stage rally and SCCA for rallycross. A good fwd beginner is the Ford Fiesta, subarus for awd, older BMW and subaru/Toyota 86 for rwd

Go to the rally organizer's website. They will have a link or contact address. Here is 100 Acre Wood's website, and you will see they have a tab for volunteers. www.100aw.org/
If you are in the uk, contact motorsport uk (formally the msa) based in slough. ask them where your nearest motor-clubs are, contact them and go to some of their meet ups. Some are more active than others in different motorsport disciplines, but all will give you important information to send you on the right path.

Does you car need a cage?
Yes. A cage is definitely required. There is a high chance of crashing or rolling your car in a rally, so their are a lot of safety requirements. Regardless if you are in the lowest class or the high budget open classes, the safety requirements are the same.
HNP Racing how much would it cost to set up a rally car on a budget? I have an 08 Subaru Impreza 2.5i hatchback I want to use can I just build my own cage? I can’t find any for sale and I’m assuming buying one would cost more then I paid for the car
@@mikefawc22 You can build your own cage, but I wouldn't do it if you haven't built a cage before. You will have to be very familiar with the rulebook and you need to be in touch with a scrutineer as they will probably want to inspect your welds. These aren't bolt in cages used for rally. You can have someone cage the car for you, I would budget at least $5000. You can easily spend $2k -$6k on suspension. And easy to nickel and dime $4k in other equipment. To enter the stock level does stock just mean engine or everything? Like is a custom suspension and brakes okay?
Whatever sanctioning body you go to (ARA, NASA, CARS, etc.) the most entry level classes still allow a lot of modification. There is decent freedom with the suspension and brakes, but the engine still has to be fairly unmodified. If you are interested, you should go to the website of a sanctioning body and read through the tech part of their rulebook.
Step 8. Play a shit ton of dirt rally 2.0 or WRC. If you can afford a steering wheel with force feedback, cool. If not, even just a controller will do. You learn a lot about how a car should feel while rallying it. Learn to control your car.
Is a 2016 rav4 a good choice?
You'll have challenges. But it's been done before. Ryan Millen drove it. I think it actually went up for sale the other month at a really good price.

You can probably enter rallycross events with an sti, but honestly if you want to do rallying you're probably still better off buying a used rally car.
Can you go race just for fun at a local rally race
Depends if you are talking rallycross or stage rally. You can show up with just about anything to have fun at a rallycross. Stage rally you have to have the car built for it, you can't show up with a street car.

Best is to hit up the different sanctioning body websites, and look at their events. See which ones are near you. For North American stage rally you have American Rally Association, NASA Rallysport, Rally America, and CRC. For rallycross check out SCCA. I know there is a rallycross scene. You can go to the SCCA site and look for Texas rallycross FB groups. But you aren't going to find stage rally in that state. There is also a rally school in TX that would have lots of info too
