Top 5 CHEAP Rallycross Cars for Beginners! (How to Get Into Rallycross!)

- Want to get into motorsports? Rallycross can be a cheap way in! Formula 1 would be amazing, but fast and fun racing awaits those that are willing and able to put in just a few thousand pounds!
For full transparency, motorsports aren't cheap - they cost an absolute fortune in fact. Even these cheap routes into rallycross are only half the story, as annual fees for maintenance, repairs, memberships, entry fees, travel, petrol, accomodation, and the rest can amount to around £5,000, and a lot of the safety equipment used in these series has a time limit attached, so you're always having to refresh your equipment which costs money.
I've never taken part in rallycross myself, but I'm an avid fan, and maybe one day I'll be able to get involved if money allows! I also made this video as a result of you lot asking for motorsports related videos, so hopefully this fits the bill nicely!
I hope you enjoy this style of video, remember to leave a like & comment, and share with your friends if you do!
Thanks again for all the continued support - glad so many of you enjoyed my first car video!

Motorsport is an expensive one, however it doesn't have to be.
I started out in a Motorsport called auto testing where you are timed over a course layer out in cones. You don't need to modify your car in any way, and the entry fees are almost never over £30, with most entry fees being £15
It teaches you car control, how to slide a car, how to stop quickly on slippy surfaces and is a great sport to compete in. I started at aged 14, meaning it's one of the best ways to learn to drive.
That's very cool - I assume similar to autocross? I think the problem is the pay jump to motorsport beyond!
Cars With JB true, but it's accessible, I think it'll make good viewing for yourself to compete and document it for your channel in the near future perhaps ?
I always dreamed about racing in rallycross...
Last year I started to race in autocross (similar to rallycross but without the joker and the tarmac)
It's really fun and even cheaper than rallycross. I also got the opportunity to test my car at the estering (worldrx track in buxtehude). It's my home track and was a dream come true to drive my own race car around the track. But for now I'll definitely stay in autocross not only because it's cheaper and you have a lot more championships and tracks to choose from, it's also easier for me and in my opinion more fun to drive on dirt than on tarmac.
So if you want to start competing in motorsport autocross is a even "cheaper" option than rallycross and also great fun.
I'd like to be a bus driver👍🏼
Absolutely dominate the racing line through the bus lanes
Would love to have been a rally driver in group B back when that was a thing
Would have been madness - hoping to get a chance to drive my dad's group B car one day!
Tom Bosworth yeah - a Renault 5 Maxi Turbo - done a few videos on it/will do a proper explanatory video one day 🤙🏽
Sure, if you don't mind seeing severed fingers in the back of your car after every race
@Chris Farley That group b teams would find human fingers in the back of their car after every race.
Back when men were men and engineers were coked out of their minds lol, took a special breed to run those cars. Would love to drive an old Audi Quattro S1.
I'd love to get into motorsport, I'd prob get into road rallies when I get a few things sorted out.
but yeah motorsport is so expensive so for me I just watch it and play it in video games
Yeah I'd love to be involved in car motorsport - I've got motocross though so would be a huge expense to do both! Sticking to the simulators for now 🤙🏽
Rally is the least expensive
@@bigsimpin5230 it depends
Its only expensive if you fuck up your car. Once you got the car how you want it, it's relatively ok to maintain if you're a good driver.
Answer: Buy a sim racing setup and you're good for life, and can play any motorsport
Haha this is true - I've got a sim setup and love it, but nothing beats the real thing!
Or get out the house and experience things for real
@@CarsWithJB that is what almost all sim racers are trying to achieve. To do the real thing
wouldve been absolutely mad to be a le mans driver in the 60s with cars like the p3/4, 917, gt40 and not to mention 250 GTOs
Quantum Donut have u seen the Le Mans 66 trailer?
Ah imagine the scenes - would be scary though with the lack of safety!
@@tagapiouplayz3737 yeah man looks sick
I think if I was to get into motorsport I would do either rally cross or formula d just because I love drifting
Formula D would be so sick - and drifting isn't impossible to get into either!
Really enjoying ur videos mate I have watched you from the start and seen how far you are progressing, goes to show hard work pays off mate. Keep doing what you’re doing 👊🏼
Appreciate it boss 🤙🏽 glad you've stuck with the channel for so long, plenty more (videos and hard work) to come!
I'm 17 and I really hope to be a rally cross racer
Good luck with it man!
Same, good luck
same
The Btrda production class is definitely the way forward for people to start out in i won the overall championship in 2015 and 2016 running a 106gti I'd recommend the 106gti and the saxo vts such a highly competitive car
Quality content, really useful vid!
Much love broski
Group b I would have said for the past but present deffinatley drift for me, ace video jb.
Drift would be so sick - not too impossible to get into either! Cheers Curtis
Nice video well done!
I want to do electric or sustainable racing but there's no series on the low end, it's all top tier cars and drivers. Would love to eventually do rallycross, rally, or touring cars
What a creative video, well done. Btw I love the longwheel base Porsche 959 that car was a beast in rally
Thanks! They're unreal aren't they, seen a few of them at the events I go to with my dad and they are stunning 🤤
Cars With JB i havent been fortunate enough to see one in person but one day I hope I will
I Drive the C2 VTS in South Africa - If i get to be in the UK it will be my weapon of choice always! nice video my brother
Great vid! By the way, is the 6th gen Honda Civic Vti any good for rallycross? It has an 1.6L 16v 160 hp engine.
Thanks! Good question - it has good aftermarket support and I've seen a few people rallycrossing them, but at the same time it'd probably be more expensive to get to rallycross spec than some other, slightly more fit for purpose cars!
Would a matrix xrs work at rallycross? I have one laying around and love taching it out at 8500
Group B woulda been sick! I’d be dead in a ditch somewhere but it’d be worth it!!!
As my grandad used to say, if you want to make a small fortune out of motor racing, you start with a big one.
Btw, I would do ginetta juniors
Haha that's definitely the best way to put it!
@@CarsWithJB probably yeah
would an jeep xj work? I feel like itd be perfect except for its weight but its just 3300 lbs soo
Group B rally driver
Because of the history i would have written and abillity to drive the craziest machines ever made
Not that i Think i would be able to... you know... not crash
Haha for real it would be so sick! I'm looking forward to the day I finally get to drive my dad's group B rally car!
Is it call the 1600 class because that’s the engine required or can you opt for a 1.4 for example?
Yeah it's the engine required - you could probably go for a 1.4 as long as it still fit all the rest of the regs but you'd likely be struggling for performance relative to the 1.6s
I wasn’t close at all 😂 still a good video though m8
Haha ah well, thanks boss!
Very interesting, just what I was thinking about. Couple of questions: What would be total year cost? How many races are year and what is the cost for each? Is there a series for Subaru Impreza and Mitsubishi Evo cars?
Probably the 2000cc 4WD super modified
Yeah super modified would let the imprezas and evos in, annual cost is around £5,000 according to what I could see on rallycross forums, and there are usually like 8-10 rounds a year with entry fees of around £300 per event 🤙🏽
@@CarsWithJB Good to know thanks.
Super gt us something I've always wanted to participate in or Formula 1.
I'd definitely do group B rally from the 80s, but then I treat the B roads like a rally course 😂👍🏻
Haha imagine - can't wait to get a chance to drive my dad's group B car!
@@CarsWithJB omg your dad has one? You should definitely do a video of it even if you don't drive it 👍🏻
I wish i had the balls to be a rally driver, rally cross looks super fun!
I would love to drive rally 🤩 thats my big dream
Would be so sick!
I’d love to get into rallying and I’d love to be as good as Colin McRae and drive a Subaru
Can you do one of these videos but with engines under 1.3 litre please
Managed to fix my polo turns out it was a leaking exhaust manifold now I can finally drive and not hear that annoying tapping sound.
Ah that's good to hear! Glad it wasn't too major
My favorite motorsport
It is exciting to watch!
@@CarsWithJB yeh full of nonstop action. And when you got a good commentator it's magical.🤯
I would do truck racing its seams like fun
Haha it does look like fun for sure!
I'd love to be an endurance racing driver.
Would be sick - with enough cash it's not impossible too!
4:39 that’s my friend in the Ovenden car
Best most cheap interesting cars or best classics for under 3000 poundsq
Classics have to come soon I know, and they will do!
@@CarsWithJB Great as I love a good classic
F1. I'm apparently naturally better at rallying, but I'm also naturally scared of ploughing my face into a tree at high speed. Wouldn't mind a bit of BTCC, but back in the glory days of the 90s. The £5k a year cost for the cheapest motorsport is why I never got into it. Probably will if I'm not married with kids by 40 but too late to get to a high level by then.
Incidentally, the number 1 car on your list is the one I've been rallying in! Couldn't afford to join the series though sadly.
I think I'm the same as you - would want to do F1 but better at rallying (all that Colin McRae rally as a child did me good) - cool to hear you've been out in the C2, hope it was good!
@@CarsWithJB The C2 is a great little rally car. I've not done a huge amount in it but it's certainly a great choice for beginners- my 1st time out I didn't even spin once. Admittedly everyone else did so some luck may have been involved ☺
citroen saxo vts' are now around 2k+ sadly, just checked
I’d LOVE to be a Formula-1 or a Formula-E driver!
Either would be so sick, imagine travelling the world to race cars in the places they do!
@@CarsWithJB Favourite track from either?
group B is my dream
Iconic cars for sure!
I would go for Formula Drift
Why is the skods fabia r5 allowed in production class like cmon its a wrc2 car
Anyone interested in getting into rallycross should visit Forster Racing School... they use the rallycross buggies in the RX150 class.
Swift sport gang
Out in force
Rally racing or trophy truck racing for me
I really want to be a lmp1 driver
That would be sick - such amazing cars to drive!
I’m 12 and I’m absaloutky hooked
Id love to be a modern day F1 driver
Same man, just the coolest thing in the world!
My dream is to be a driver in f1 or rally group b
Wouldnt you want RWD or AWD for rallycross?
I chose these based on which classes you could get into cheaply! There are classes that'll take AWD & RWD but not necessarily as entry level as these cars
I'd go for rallycross in a Subaru Impreza WRX STI
comment your fav WRX driver, mine was Mattius Ekstrom, and is now Andreas Bakkerud
Mines Richard burns
Man like Ken Block is always a fan fav, but I'm a fan of the Solberg family
@@CarsWithJB of course you'd like Ekstrom's rival 😂
F1 or if i can go to the past Can-Am
I would wanna be a formula e driver because come on its an arcade racer irl what else could you want
Haha this is true - would be pretty nuts!
WEC LMP1 Racing
Group B rally
I would love to be a professional rallycross driver.
Perfect question for this video, I'd be a rally cross driver
Kind of a goal of mine to get a rally or race license before I'm 25
Ah amazing, good luck with it!
Always been ralley
Formula e, rallycross or endurance
All three would be pretty cool, I think of them I'd like to do Rallycross just for the action!
Its something ive wanted to do for years but just realistically cannot afford it... shame.
Meanwhile you have an American over here realizing he can only get his hands on the Mini...
i would like to do formula drift
autocross is an alternative if you live in the UK
Gt3
Rally
Fair!
I wanted to be a driver in the fast and furious😂🤣
Haha that would be jokes 😂
😈😈😈😈 rally cross originate in my grandmothers next door neighbors block of land with a well in the middle of the block ... so i used a mower to cut a track along tye tree lines in straight curved grass cout corners over the well jump onto gravel road still very slippy in her new 800cc suzuki hatchback ..... i was in year 4 .. allthe neighbors watched me from the houses cutting laps like in a ring ...., back then crashed rally cars were written off and guys wouod straighten them by puling apart the frame rails of webbing to get the car as straight as possible to race them again in a contained environment where there was lower costs of crashes because the cars never hit terminal speeds as before when raced in a competitive edge in world competition. ... a great way to re- use purpose built vehicles that use to be pulled apart and parting the vehicles ....😈😈😈😈😈😈😈😈 that was around the niddle to end 1970's , when i kept my driving capabilities ongoing as my first experiences was in a mini cooper when i was age 4 ... we drove them into stacked cars as the top car fell onto the mini's roof without any real damage .... sitting on wooden fruit and vegetable boxes in 1977 😈😈😈😈😈
GROUP B
I'd love to say Group B, but I'm not insane. So... Group A!
MAGGIORA OFF ROAD ARENA 🇮🇪
Haha well spotted!
Formula 1
Rally driver
Would be sick 🤷🏽♂️
NORTHERN DIRT MODS
Hillclimb racing
Some nutcases out there in hillclimb, mad respect!
Buy used rally car. Used means a lot cheaper
Yeah like the Saxo that was for sale in this video, so much cheaper!
Poeple that do Rally are mad ladz that is a fact
Agreed - they need Hans devices for their balls
Real rallying video please ._.
You know it'll come! I'm big into rallying
Awsome! cant wait for it
200 dollars for a seatbelt tf....
Did he just say 'fire proof underwear' as a recommendation. I'm sorry but if I go up in a ball of flames the only things that won't be burnt is my a** and my crotch area!!! So I don't really see the point in that if I'm honest.
WRC driver > F1 driver any fkin day.
MotoGP all the way
Or just watch the top gear budget rally cross lol
Even RC takes £1-2k per year. Cheap racing doesn’t exist
Sadly it's only relative cheap rather than absolute cheap!

Honestly crazy - sometimes my views show like 500 on YT but on the creator studio thing they're already double that - it's just how often YT actually updates 🤷🏽♂️
