I just made a big ham yesterday! Yay! I held the bone up like a trophy and told my family I’m making ham and bean soup! This is so exciting!
Love the trophy!
I could almost smell the soup. My mother made this soup all the time. Soup and corn bread, yummy. Thank you for sharing your recipe.
When I saw your split pea soup video I pulled out a ham to make it. Now I have another soup to add to my shelf. I like your technique to keep the digestive issues at a minimum
Yummy, we just had Ham and Bean made from canned Jars from our pantry shelves. It's been below freezing here and cold, Ham and Bean always does the trick, total Comfort Soup!
First... you're glowing today! Second... thank you for this! I wanted to make this and split pea soup this week but hadn't pulled recipes yet! Now i can just use yours!
Thank you! 😃 Hope you like it!
Will definitely try your method of soaking beans. Thank you for participating in the collaboration ❤
Perfect ham and navy bean soup for those cold days and nights you need thawing out.
Thanks for sharing and have a blessed day!
Love that you can make soup so easily with what you’ve canned. Makes for a lot less stress when making stuff.😊hope you get to feeling better soon.
The soup looks fantastic. Thank you for sharing.
I made this last year. Just like you said it good on a cold day. Comfort food in the finest. Thank you for sharing. Can't wait for fermenting February.
Me too! 😃
I am ready for some soup! This is where you need to vent the great smells in your kitchen to bring people in to eat. Yes, soaking and changing the water on the beans half way makes a big difference in getting rid of those digestive issues later.
My neighbor would love this! She is a fan of this soup. I just might can some for her. Perfect for a cold winter day.
Will you be my neighbor? 😆
@@FermentedHomestead Absolutely!!! I would love to be your neighbor. ❤️
Im soaking the beans now. My Granddaughter loves bean soup 😊
I'm using your method of soaking beans now! It's the second time I've done it and it really works! Thank you so much!
Great details regarding venting the canner! Excellent recipe too!
Glad you liked it!
I just thought about canning some ham and bean soup thanks for sharing
THANK YOU!! One of my favorites that I thought I had to give up but Maybe this will work for me!!
Looks fantastic! Thank you 😊
Delicious, I've got to can more chili beans 😊
Yeah, I’m almost there too. I have store bought chili beans on the shelf and hubs always requests my home canned chili, they’re so much better!
This looks delicious. It is definitely ham and beans season. I canned 4 different kinds of beans (cranberry, great white northern, pinto, and navy) in my homemade ham bone broth. It came out so delicious.
Looks great. Will try this recipe next time I am making ham and bean soup, thank you
Sounds so lovely on a cold winter day. We no longer have such days now that we are in Florida, hubby's family is here. I grew up mostly in Wisconsin and Washington state so yeah winters there are brutal. Been 8 to 12 below zero there the past week or more and I don't miss it a bit. Thanks for the video, stay safe and warm.
I'm a firm believer in small batch canningand preservingyear round, depending on what's on sale and what the pantry needs. This week is enchilada sauce, baked beans, rhubarb preserves, dehydrating chives/mushrooms and now this soup. Great video!
We love Ham and bean soup round here - this recipe sounds very tasty too. Can't wait to try it myself.
It’s been crazy colder than normal in Louisiana so that soup looks amazing!
This looks delicious Anna! I appreciate the tip on soaking with ACV! Navy beans make a great soup! 😋
Have to try the recipe LOVE THE SHIRT!
Thank you! I’m planning to offer them for sale next month
I made this soup Monday using a ham bone to make broth first. I should have canned some. I will next time-it's a perfect comfort food. Thanks for the idea of canning it...
I’m planning to use the ham bone brother next time as well! 😃
Put a medium potatoe in with beans. BEFORE the potatoe is cooked completely REMOVE from beans. This takes the toot out of the beans. After potatoe is thrown away you can turn your beans off
As a child we ate our bean soup with a splash of vinegar 😋 I still do this today 😊
This looks like a wonderful winter, comfort food! Thank you for sharing.
I had to come back a 2nd time for the recipe, watched again and sent my mom your video so she can make this too .
I've thought about it all day , my husband mentioned it again, so definitely will be doing this. I even went back and ordered the bean seeds to grow them this summer .
I am so glad I started watching canuary and found your videos. So much helpful info. Thanks
This sounds really tasty. I'm going to give it a try with some venison instead of ham, since we don't eat pork due to an allergy in the household. Using that beautiful beef broth and simmering with all the veggies makes it a hearty, easy meal! Also, thanks again for running through the steps for the gas-out process on the beans. Always nicer to not have the rump rumbles around here (between hubby and 3 boys... let's just say they don't need any additional noises or smells... LOL)
I guess I will be canning this recipe as well but in smaller portions (I'm the only one in the house who likes beans!) That looks sooo dang good! Thank you for the video!
Love your tip on using apple cider vinegar while soaking. Great idea. Love that it.
Great tips for soaking the beans-thank you! As always-love your videos!
I love ham and bean soup!! Yum ❤️
I just canned some ham and beans a few weeks ago - leftover ham from new years dinner
One of my faves is beans and ham. Thanks for sharing your process
I just love your instructional videos. So helpful
That looks amazing. So easy and looks delicious.
Yum yummy and with cornbread
Excellent recipe! I just canned beans using the same soaking method with acv and oh my were they sooo much better. I am looking for more fast meals in a jar and will try this. Thank you!
I’m glad it helps you too!
Yum!! I add potatoes & ham and no celery. I also use great northern beans, because I grow them. I’m going do a batch of this. I freeze dried a couple loads though.
You are so fun to watch!!! Great recipe
Thanks for mentioning adding vinegar to the soak and rinsing halfway through soak.
It helps a lot!
This looks good. And so easy! I have a ham that I want to cook this week, so I know how I will use some of the leftovers. Thanks for sharing!
I am going to try this. I have been wanting more soups on my shelfl
Sounds like perfect timing then! 😊
Love this recipe, you’re awesome! I’m definitely going to be canning these I just told my husband we have a half ham in the freezer I want to make this weekend and I boil my ham (my mom always did gives you a great taste and then broth) covered with water and 10-15 min. Per #. Thank you so much I’ve been wanting to can ham and bean soup!
I've got to slow down. I made 16 pints of split pea soup Jan. 5 and was eating it as I watched your video on split pea soup. Now I have 7 quarts of onion broth and 7 quarts of ham & navy bean soup sitting on the table waiting to be washed & put away. Unfortunately I forgot about the vinegar & rinsing part of the soak. 🥴 I'll wait for your next canning video before I can up anything else! Blessings 💜🙏💜
Thank you for the recipe , I have several Hams that need to be out of the freezer.
Yummy! I just bought some split peas! This would be delicious!
I was told to use baking soda to soak in. I will try acv. Thanks
I’ve heard baking soda for kidney beans and acv for others
I am gonna try and do this …. Once I get my pressure canner. Looks really good! Thank you 😊
Another great soup recipe. Thank You
Definitely trying this soak method. Thank you!!
Thank you, this looks delicious.
That sounds so good... I'll definitely be making this one. ❤
I recently found your channel & I'm really enjoying your content.
Welcome aboard!
Thank you!
This sounds so good
Looks delicious 😋
this helps use up the 7 honeyhams I got from Aldi's last week for $.89 a pound
Love this recipes!!! How long do we cook the beans before canning? I love your honesty.🌿💛🌿
Going to try that
Thanks, I was looking for a recipe like this.
Thank you for the bean information. I will give it a try. I really enjoy bean soup but it doesn’t like me!
❤ good to know I always use bakind
Sorry baking soda
Yummy. Im going to try the ACV with water soaking! Anything that helps. 😊 Thanks.
I love the tip of soaking the beans before making the soup. Would you also do that for Lentil soup? Is making lentil soup a rebel canning? Sorry for all the questions but I really want to get this right. ❤
Awesome
😘
Yum!!!
Love having homemade soup on my pantry shelf. Will get the cider vinegar a try next time I soak my beans. ? Could you give a ratio of water to vinegar.
I would love to try this. I miss ham and bean soup. How carb heavy do you think it is since you partially fermented the beans. Would a full ferment before cooking bring the carbs down further?
I doubt the short cook time would affect the carbs in any meaningful way. I haven’t tried a full ferment but it could affect the carb count, not sure what it would do for the canning safety either way though
Anna, you can't pick and choose - National Center for Home Food Preservation saysThere is no safe approved process for home canning cured, brined or corned meats which means ham. I can dried beans and ham
My understanding is that it is allowed in small amounts inside other recipes. Several recipes from ball include ham.
@@FermentedHomestead they can't pick and choose either! Lol
@FermentedHomestead I found it! Bacon or Ham can be added to to one “So Easy to Preserve” recipe: “Fill hot jars 3/4 full with hot beans. Add one 3/4 inch cube of pork, ham or bacon to each jar, if desired. Do not add any more meat or bacon.” [5]
Where’s the link for the recipe? It looks really good!
Thank you for the reminder! I just added it to the description as well www.thegratefulgirlcooks.com/ham-and-bean-soup/
💜
It looks amazing kid ! I always worry about it being salty with ham did you find that?
Ham and bean soup sounds really good. I've never heard of soaking the beans with apple cider vinegar, does it effect the taste?
How do you prevent mushy beans? I think that is why so many people can them completely dry.
I use baking doda in my soaking liquid instead od vinegat. I wonder which is better. I do it specifically for the degassination.
I’ve been told BS for kidney beans and acv for others
@@FermentedHomestead so interesting. I'll explore further. I've been a dry gean canner forever and recently started doing this. It was noted all around how much less gassy MY bean soup was....
How much ACV did you put in the soaking water? I love ham and bean soup, and want to get some on my shelf!
Soaking with 1/4 tsp baking soda does same thing
Since your doing this as a soup we can use ham? Is this the same for Bacon?
Ham is allowed in small quantities inside canning recipes.
Is there an amount of acv that should be used or just eyeball it? I will definitely be doing this next time I soak my beans. ( I just put up 28 quarts of various beans including 6 quarts of ham and bean soup.) I used another method supposedly to limit the "bean problem" but it didn't seem to work. So, I'll be using your method on my next batch of beans. Wondering.......Does the acv changes the flavor or texture of the bean? Your soup looks delicious.
Nevermind......I just watched your other video on canning beans. 1 Tbsp acv to 1 cup of water.
Peas out hehehe
This looks absolutely delicious! Will add it to my list!
Looks delicious 🤤
It is!
